View Full Version : Why does Winky Wright have to call people out?
DiegoFuego 08-01-2005, 04:46 PM As it stands, his recent victories have probably landed him the #2 spot on the pound for pound charts with Hopkins, Tszyu, and Trinidad all falling out of the top 5 this year. What I don't understand is why Wright is having to call De La Hoya out? De La Hoya has lost so many important fights that if he were to beat Wright, he might make up for a really pathetic career as far as big fights go. Think about it: Wright beat two guys that hold wins over De La Hoya. If Oscar beats Wright, he evens his career out a little more as Wright beat two guys that handed De La Hoya 3 of his 4 losses (even though we all agree De La Hoya lost more fights than his record suggests)
Why isn't De La Hoya calling this man out? Just goes to show that De La Hoya really is a wuss
DLh doesn't even have a fight planned thats y... he aint calling anyone out.
wright calling him out, bcuz he knows ppl r going to pay for that ****, everyone pays to c DLH like him or not.
wright can call out everyone right now, bcuz as it stands, i dont c anyone at 154 or mayb even 160 that can beat him

Why would Trinidad be in the top 5 at all?
xcaret 08-01-2005, 05:30 PM Why would Trinidad be in the top 5 at all?
yeah, why
kallsop 08-01-2005, 05:50 PM Winky is a tought fight for anyone, and his style doesn't sell. Winky needs to fight someone with charisma and a big fan base to make the big PPV dollars. DLH can fight anyone and bring in the money. C'mon, he fought Hopkins so saying he is ducking or only taking easy fights is silly. Going more than 18 months between fights is retired in my book.
I don't know who is next for Winky. Even though he has a win over Trinidad, and it was a superb boxing exhibition, his next PPV will bomb unless his opponent draws them fans in. I'm not even sure he can sell a PPV by himself, but some of the recent PPV's have been pathetic so I guess the bar is getting lower all the time.

how the hell was trinidad in ur top 5 anyway? for beating non-boxing mayorga?
Truth 08-01-2005, 09:36 PM Wright would destroy De La Hoya...Winky is a tough assignment for anyone.
DiegoFuego 08-02-2005, 04:37 AM Why would Trinidad be in the top 5 at all?
Do you understand how p4p works?! It's based on your record and the people you beat. Before Winky, Trinidad had ONE LOSS against THE NUMBER ONE GUY IN THE SPORT. He'd beaten De La Hoya, Vargas, and Mayorga. How could be not be top 5? He had to be above Tszyu (WHO WAS KNOCKED OUT BY VINCE PHILLIPS) but he also had to be behind Mayweather (no losses) and Hopkins, so that puts him in the top 5. Who would you have ranked above him?!
DiegoFuego 08-02-2005, 04:37 AM Let me guess...BARRERA, MORALES, and PACQUIAO, right? lol
pinkpanther 08-02-2005, 05:25 AM Becuase generally his fighting style is dull and other boxers know he struggles to sell PPV - its getting better though.

mayweather, hopkins, Roy, lewis, winky, tszyu and everybody knows he lost to oscar
Shaolin Bushido 08-03-2005, 07:42 AM He's a slick boxer who also happens to be a southpaw. It's the story of his career ... the list of guys who DIDN'T fight him has several HOF'ers in it.
All the things orthodox fighters drill endlessly to do ... are the things a well trained southpaw like Winky sees and capitalizes on, second nature.
shortright 08-03-2005, 10:15 PM nobody wants him cause he's not a big draw and he is very tough to be and makes people look terrible
BAREKNUCKLES 08-03-2005, 10:27 PM Who would want to fight Winky? I mean the guy really is that good, and on top of all of that, he's a true middle weight. These other guys like Delahoya and the like, they aren't even close to real middle weights. Sure Felix has a big name, but he doesn't have the body to be a force in the middleweight division.
The same goes for Sturm. Oscar had a tough time with him because he's just too big.
Same story with Shane Mosley. He just didn't have the body to compete with the big boys.
Look at Bernard Hopkins. He fought little guys that he could just physically manhandle in the ring until he fought Jermain. It's a little different story when the guy you fight is a mirror image to you.
No one wants to fight Winky because he doesn't have star power and more than likely, he will beat their ass. It's a lose/lose situation for most fighters and unfortunately, in this day and age it's not about beating the best, it's about lining your pockets with as much dough as you can, so you fight all of the tomato cans you can find until somebody makes you fight a real contender.
You didn't see Bernard itching to fight Winky, and I'll betcha that you won't see Jermain, (if he gets past Bernard) rushing out to fight Winky either.
Maybe Winky should quit trying to be a nice guy and change his nickname.
Maybe he should star in some **** movies with Tyson. Maybe he could get some better fights then.
I dunno.
