View Full Version : Does anyone really give Mayorga a chance?

the fact of the matter is that in his last showing Mayorga never really demonstrated the power which he had become notorious for. Unless Tito Trinidad has eroded so tremendously that he can no longer beat an untrained undisciplined fighter like Mayorga, I think that this fight is a TKO for Trinidad.

it is hard to tell this year there have been so many upsets :(
My head says tito but i am apprehensive because my favourite fighter got KOed big style, so did tyson, by clear underdogs.

I think Tyson would have won that fight if he hadn't gotten hurt, RJJ on the other hand, I have no explanation for, other than fighting someone who wasn't intimidated by him for the second time now. I think Tito will pull it off, he can box or punch, and Mayorga fights only one way, the hard way.

I think Mayorga will win by brutal ko!!! I think Tito is way overated!!!

with tito chin..mayorga power..how can u not????

remember sometimes the best way to beat a boxer..is not to box him...and mayorga will never throw a straigh or jab..its all hooks and power shots from this guy

the actual cold hard truth is that mayorga really only demonstrated his "devestating" power once against top guys
and that was against forrest
he hasnt show super power since that fight
i see his style as more of a threat then his supposed power
aside from that he didnt look at all impressive in his last fight

i give mayorga a chance
but not so much to his credit
more of doubt that trinidad can come back as his old self
but even then i think a tito who is not his 100% old self can beat mayo
i really see this as a mismatch
if this fight took place at mayos weight class he'd have more of a chance
but hes just gonna be too small for tito

Of course Mayorga has a chance.
He's a big hitter who is very hard to train for....
He fires shots from all over the place, & a rusty Tito may get caught.

But, Tito is the superior fighter.
He SHOULD be able to whether some early round chaos....settle in, & start landing those excellent, devastating shots of his....
I expect Tito to bust Mayorga up en route to an 8th rd TKO.

But...like I said....Mayorga absolutely is a threat !

I won't be upset if Mayorga wins. I like the guy outside the ring so much that I would have him really high on my list if he had any skill whatsoever. Trinidad should easily destroy him, but who knows? I'm betting any money I get by Friday all on Mayorga to win by KO.

Trinidad is too damn one-d of a fighter. I don't like him as much as I used to. And I hate his father, can't stand that idiot. Tito gives his dad way too much control. His dad actually had the audacity to tell him he was winning the Hopkins fight.

And it was just lame for Tito to do his fake retirement, which nobody ever believed would stick very long. He would've been back sooner had every reporter in the world not laughed and kept saying "No seriously, when are you coming back?" from the day he announced retirement.

He retired to avoid his King contract. I'm sure his deal with King now is much improved over what it was. He was calling Don's bluff, making him squirm.

i'm taking mayorga in this one. the man has no regard for his opponent's skill or power. he throws his punches with pure hate, and he swarms his opponent if they give him a inch....but all this could hurt him as well as 13-14lbs climb in weight.. tito has been know for going down getting back up and knocking out the other guy, it happens alot in his fights. they're usually flash knockdowns though. if mayorga gets tito down, i don't think it will be a flash knockdown, i think it will be the beginning of the end...

im gonna throw out a prediction of 4th rd tko mayorga...
i really don't care who wins, i'm not a fan of either, i just want it to be a game and exciting fight....

Yeah of course . . . anything can happen inside that ring remember? If Mayorga can hurt Tito early and continue to impose his game plan. . . then he's got Tito's ASS..

I'm rooting for Tito . . . but if he should lose so be it, that means Mayorga is a better fighter. :D

Ha . . . ha . . ha . . . that's right Bro . . .very risky! But we should appreciate that act . . . very seldom you see fighters take on such big risk head on . . . the shortest way back to the top is to take the risk . . . if he fails then suffer the consequence . . . it might be end of the line for him.

trinadad aint too smart to take this fight ...mayorga if he even think he cought u with a shot throws punches fast as hell from wierd angles and he aint sloppy as tito thinks his arms are tight and the punches are short..the just come from every angle

I agree. Tito's the superior fighter. Definitely. Caution will be on Tito's head though coz the man in front of him is a serious threat, he don't wanna let the wildman spoil his welcome back party. i expect Tito to box Mayorga silly all night...but IF El Matador could lay those heavy hands on Tito...it's over! Bye Tito. Well, that's just a possibility IF......... ;)

Of course Mayorga has a chance in this fight, anyone would be foolish to completely discount him. Who is really the underdog in this fight on paper? I ask this because we have Tito who is the most talented out of the two BUT hasn't been in the ring for the last 2 years and then we have Mayorga who has been active over the last few years fighting for titles BUT hasn't got the talent of Tito.

My pick is still Tito by stoppage, i think he'll come back with a bang.

Mayorga has a good chance. I am picking Mayorgy by KO in the early rounds.

I think alot of people underestimate Mayorga's quickness. If Tito does, it is over early.

I'd also like to see how Mayorga takes Tito's power.

I've heard Tito talking but to be honest i couldn't say whether he was slurring his words or not. She will have more of an idea than the rest of us i suppose because she comes from the same place. I don't know any Spanish so even if he was slurring i would probably think it was part of his accent.

Interesting...I wonder what it's from. I've never really seen Tito get beat up besides 'Nard and maybe DLH.

I think Tito can beat Mayorga...he'll certainly test his chin out. I give Tito a lot of respect for coming back straight to Ricardo. Tito TKO 9.

I am from Puerto Rico and I don't think Trinidad was slurring.
The thing is that Trinidad tends to speak too fast and sometimes forgets what he wants to say. Then he starts going back & forth because of that.As much as I like Trinidad as a fighter,I also recognize that he is not a fluent speaker with a rich vocabulary.

I think people OVERestimate Mayo's power. We've only seen him KO Forrest, that's it. He couldn't KD Spinks and Judah did. He couldn't even KD the bum he fought last. People think that because he KTFO Vernon that he has this awesome power. He'd been knocking out bums in Nica like Pinto was doing in Brazil. I don't think he's as strong as people think.

He does have a good chin, tho, but that will be put to the test.

Careful, you don't have to be a good puncher to put Tito down. Oba Carr, David Reid and Fernando Vargas were all modest punchers guess what they have in common?

I have to go with tito early in this one. Mayorga as some of you put it has only two big wins agains vernon forrest. There was an article on this site interviewing him and he mentioned that vernon was the hardest puncher he has ever faced. lol, now lets compare vernons power with a rusty tito. I still have tito punching way harder. Now mayorga is one crazy sob and every punch is an attempt to ko you, but i really dont see him being able to withstand tito's power and boxing ablility. Look at mayorga vs. spinks........ Tito by KO 3rd.

Texasboy34
09-30-2004, 04:26 PM
Spinks is MUCH harder to find that Tito is. He also should have lost that fight IMO. He didnt do anything in that fight, but paw, and circle. Nothing he landed did ANYTHING, and IMO he did nothing to take the champs belts from him. Tito has a weak chin, and has been away for 2 1/2 years with NO TUNE UP fight. Mayorga has been active. Has a strong chin, power in both hands, and isnt afraid to take the fight to a rusty Tito. Whom ever wins it will be by KO, and I say it happens early. Either way, but dont compare Tito's boxing ability to Spinks, cause they are WAY different fighters.

Hurlex
09-30-2004, 04:35 PM
yea against spinks..mayorga was fighting the ref more then spinks..with the point deductions and the whole.it was not a fall crap..anyway..putting that behinds us..i think tito is very catchable (is that word :D..anyway who cares)

right now the polls are about 60-40 for tito...but hey remember that jones had a 5-1 over glen and got ko'ed...tito keeps answering that q about him maybe being rusty saying:"i have trained a lot and i am always in the gym..so i am up to date"...umm ok tito...but u werent boxing!!!..u were just training and keeping in shape...while mayorga was koing forrest..making spinks run (and true he looked like crap in his last fight but stll won)...so tito need to get that out of his head-it ver different then being in there with some especially someone as dangerous as mayorga that has the perfect style to take out boxers..he gets them into a brawl..ask forrrest...if tito goes to war with mayorga i say mayorga..if he boxes mayorga tito can ko him..but it wont be as fast as if it was mayorga attacking...tito has power..but mayorga may have the best chin in boxing right now (with manny's next opponent having the second best)

Oba Carr was 32-0 (21) and Vargas was 20-0 (18). How can you say these guys had no power? Both were flash knockdowns, tho. Each time, Tito was up by the count of 2 and came back to knock the other guy down 3 times in one round. Tito is just a fighter who gets caught off balance in certain situations (like B-Hop kept him off balance all night). B-Hop is the only fighter ever to hurt Tito.

6 Heads was a good fight but let's not give him all the credit for Margarito KO'd him in 2 and it took Mayo 5 rounds. Does that mean that Margarito would beat Tito? I don't think so.

Mayorga comes across as a bigger puncher to some people because of the big wild swings he throws all the time but I think you find that Tito’s calculated punches are just as hard purely because they hit where he wants to hit. Mayorga will throw a wild uppercut or hook and hope for the best, sometimes that strategy can work but against a fighter of Tito’s calibre maybe somewhat difficult for him. I wouldn’t underestimate Tito’s power for one second in this fight just like I wouldn’t underestimate Mayorga’s. Although I always go back to the point of Mayorga couldn’t stop the light-middleweight Eric Mitchell or Cory Spinks so how on earth is he going to stop Felix Trinidad? Mayorga scored an impressive stoppage win against Vernon Forrest in the first fight BUT Vernon admits himself that he went into that fight completely wrong, a masterful boxer like Vernon should not have been fighting Mayorga like that in the first place but his corner underestimated him. Tito and his corner won’t have that chance to underestimate him because we have seen the best of Mayorga as he is pretty one-dimensional. I think it’s going to be an amazing fight and nothing is definite to who will win as both fighters have the capabilities to do serious damage but I’m still backing Tito via late fight stoppage.

You’d let Tito hit you in the face? No amount of money could compensate getting your neck broken surely?

:) I have an off the record question for you too. Is Dr Cynicals Daddy anything to do with you? I noticed the user on the forums and wondered if you had made a new account.

That may be, but "Tito" has shown that he can't handle pressure or defeat.
Of course I am talking about his fight with Hopkins.
By retiring like a ***** after he got beaten shows he has no heart and that he is a *****.
Plus, how the hell can he plan out a strategy for a guy who throws wild powerful punches?

lol Yes, I'd let "Tito" hit me.
Because afterwards, I'd sue his ass for doing so.

mayorga is very strong but i dont think his punching power is quite as high as tito's. tito was like a small version of tyson, he could knock you out with either hand, not to mention he has one of the most devestating left hooks ive ever seen. mayorga's best punch is that chopping right hand. i hope mayorga wins but tito is a force to be reckoned with no doubt.

Tito didn’t retire straight after the Bernard Hopkins fight, he had one more fight against Frenchman Hassine Cheffie ?????? (I have no idea how to spell his surname) I think he handled his defeat quite well, surely he knew he was getting beaten to the punch but he still kept on coming forward trying to turn the fight around. Tito wanted to fight on in the 12th after the knockdown but his corner men stopped it. His strategy will be to beat Mayorga to the punch, Mayorga does throw wild punches but leaves himself so wide open for a big bomb to land on his chin. I know that is easier said but in practise Tito has the capability.

I don’t know, he may break your neck Dr Cynical. He’s a professional boxer with a nasty punch, general peoples necks are not trained to take punches of certain power. His fist are classed as a weapon, if he was to beat you he may as well hit you with a bat because he would get in as much trouble if he just used his fists. I wouldn’t let him hit me, I’d ask for his autograph.

Too true, that’s something I always admired about Tito and that was his ability to punch very very hard with both hands. He was devastating when dismantling an opponent, once he had Fernando going he didn’t let him off the hook.

Realstickyhands? That name doesn’t ring a bell, it sounds a little dodgy though. ;)

Wow is that real magic??? Wow you’re the best Dr Cynical.

lol We'll see Mayorga retire "Tito" and "Tito" will end up disappearing in Puerto Rico.

Hell no. He's a powerful heavyweight, or was. A shot like that could probably kill me or seriously injury me.

"realstickyhands" is "realheavyhands".

lol Yes, it's real magic.
Better than the **** David Blaine pulls. :p

I cannot dispute that your magic is better because how the hell you got that much karma is beyond me. David Blaine is a fake alot of people say, those street shows he did were all actors according to many people. They also did a show that showed you how his tricks could be done but i didn't watch it because i liked his show and if it was fake i didn't want to know.

lol Why do people insist on calling Trinidad "Tito"?
I always call him Felix or Trinidad.
Everytime I call him "Tito", I use quotation marks.

Anyway, "Tito" will be floored and ****ed just like you were by that heavyweight. :p

People will be saying that Mayorga was just a blown up welterweight, and that he didn't have any skills anyways. That and we'll all be wishing for Mayorga to make a speedy recovery.
