Roy Jones should hang up his gloves while he can still announce fights on HBO.

I am very worried about the nature of his last two knockouts. He was demolished and in a very dangerous way.

He is a speed and reflex fighter, and when you get old, your speed and reflexes leave you. He could wind up a casualty if he keeps crawling through the ropes.

Muhammad Ali
Evander Holyfield
Riddick Bowe
Terry Norris
Meldrick Taylor
Tommy Hearns
Joe Frazier

just to name a few. Should Roy's name be added to this list of brain damaged fighters?

he will be top 5 for sure. he only has 2 real losses and one of them came to a guy in tarver who rated on pretty much everyones top 10 p4p list. if he dominates him and then johnson i think hes back to the top caus ehes back to his old self.

to much pride for rjj to finish his career out with 2 knockout loses. he will come back and when and if he beats tarver he will be back in the top ten

You know, some times its just better to know when to say when. RJJ needs to say when. I liked him, and don't want to see him do it. Anybody who beats Ruiz is alright in my book.

he was able to get up from his knockout loss to tarver. in the glen johnson fight, rj didn't really fight.. most of the time he was just laying on the ropes taking shots. in round 5 when he actually fought back, he delivered very effective punches. did he even train properly for the glen johnson fight? i don't think so

I wouldnt say Riddick Bowe was a speed and reflex fighter at all. He took serious punishment over his career and that was his downfall. You could probaly argue the same case for Holyfield. As for Joe Frazier he wasnt really speed and reflexs either, hes the complete opposite fighter of Muhammed Ali and Jones Jr. He was a little bit quicker for his size but was more of the power.

What's this talk of if Jones beats Tarver again? They're not signed for a third fight.

I talked to Greg Leon this weekend to see if he knows anything about it, and he said Roy's had the contract for 3 weeks but hasn't called back or made any indication what his intentions are.

He didn't seem very optimistic, and said the rumors are all just that, rumors.

I think Roy could pull this off, thats why he took the fight. Roy must have an idea in his head that he could can do it one more time.

I mean he could revive his career, but he's not getting p4p status til he whoops up on a bunch of the names in there like Winky and Taylor...which he won't

so y do people put Glen Johnson on there after he beats a old Roy??? The man had 9 losses...if thats the case then he should have never been on it to begin with right???

IMO if Jones can overcome his One and Only Rivaly, he is back in 2days P4P and it moves him up up further on the all time great list..

personally, i would like roy to whip tarver's ass once again... tarver has become so content with his boxing and he is as boring as ever... i want redemption for jones... if he gets his 50th win, he can retire :D

I agree...if Jones doesnt get caught then He wins a fairly easy fight IMO...He is a way better boxer than Tarver on his best day...But the thing is i dont kno if Jones can take a punch..if hes fighting u gotta take a punch...

I had the opportunity to talk to Roy about what was next, and we both agreed that Tarver is an easier fight for RJ, and he said he would take the fight, but not until he got back into the gym, and not until he was ready to do so - which meant - not any time soon....

So is the Oct. 1 date nothing but fiction, then? Seemed kind of early for a big comeback, though I guess there might still be enough time to get back in shape if things go well.

The Oct.1 date that I refered to in another thread, does not include RJ or Tarver, if that's what you are asking - and no Oct. 1 would not be too soon for Roy to get ready, but in terms of getting a promotion together, and getting a site fee done and such, then - I am inclined to say that if it were going to happen on Oct. 1, then the contract would have to be signed in the next week or so. Which I doubt very seriously will happen.

After talking to RJJ personaly, I would say that he is done....

It says Oct. 1 on boxrec...sorry, should have mentioned that. Yeah, I had a feeling that on the promotional side that was cutting it a little close.

I think Tarver is 2 months older & Johnson like 2 weeks older then Jones. One thing about Johnson, he lost many close fights. The only guy that really beat Johnson badly was Hopkins which he stopped Johnson in round 11.
