View Full Version : Kali Meehan V Evans Quinn
I'll be back 08-25-2010, 03:14 AM Meehan set for return
By Ray Wheatley — World of Boxing - 24th Aug 2010
Former world heavyweight challenger Kali “Checkmate” Meehan (35-4, 29 KOs) will return to the ring on September 2 at the La Montage Reception Center, Sydney, NSW, Australia when he will punch it out over twelve rounds with well credentialed American-based Evans “The Sandman” Quinn (18-4-1, 16 KOs) over twelve rounds with the IBF Pan Pacific title up for grabs.
Meehan is coming off a points loss to former world heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev in Germany in a May WBA eliminator.
Meehan, 6.5″, 240 lbs, has KO power in both hands and holds a knockout over 2007 heavyweight contender Davarryl Williamson. In 2004 Meehan was unlucky in being declared a split points loser after twelve action rounds against Lamont Brewster in WBO title bout.
Quinn was born in Nicaragua but is based in Miami, Florida and at 27 years and 6.3″ will be a solid test for Meehan having given former WBO heavyweight champion Siarhei Liakhovich the fight of his life before being stopped in nine rounds in a May contest.
On the undercard former 2004 Athen Olympian Adam Forsyth (8-0,7KOs) will be in action against American Chris Thomas (17-12-2, 14 KOs) over eight round bout. Thomas has met several world rated boxers including B.J. Flores who he dropped a twelve round decision to in a 2007 WBF super cruiserweight title bout.

Ultimateboxa.
One more round 08-30-2010, 12:22 AM I saw Meehan working his sons corner at the Golden Gloves over the weekend. His son was a decent fighter. He lost but wasn't too bad.
I'll be back 08-31-2010, 09:34 AM Ultimateboxa.

Philfy 09-01-2010, 10:23 PM A bit of foxy boxing on tonight boys. Former model Lauryn Eagle makes her highly anticipated debut on the undercard. Trained by Losh Matthews (Gairy St Clair's bandana wearing trainer).
This is her:

Crap! Long-arsed show. Thanks for the updates though, Phil.
Philfy 09-02-2010, 07:17 AM Halfway through the show now.
Dib just defeated a game Ceferino Labarda. Pretty one sided fight though, with Billy hitting the Argentine at will and slowly breaking him down with Body shots and straight right hands. Labarda's corner threw towel thrown in at the start of the 6th round.
Joel Brunker up next against Carlos Lopez.
Philfy 09-02-2010, 07:35 AM Impressive performance by Joel Brunker to stop Carlos Lopez inside 2 rounds. Brunker dropped Lopez 3 times in the second round, all by body shots to earn the stoppage.
Andy Raymond about Joel: "The size of a jockey, but he hits like a horse"
Final fight next, Kali Meehan v Evans Quinn.

HERE we go.
joe strong 09-02-2010, 08:19 AM meehan vs quinn would be ok...
Philfy 09-02-2010, 08:34 AM Been a bizarre fight between Meehan and Quinn. Meehan winning the fight comfortably so far, mainly through Evans strange (in)activity.
Evans has been showboating the whole fight, talking trash and just acting very strange. He's been spewing up in between every round as well, so I think he's very unfit. He's even been dancing with the ring girls between rounds.
Evans just hasn't thrown enough punches, the natural talent is evident but the showboating quickly became tiresome.
12 round bell rings with 45sec left on the clock? Strange. Either way, Meehan wins by wide decision. Quinn could be an exciting fighter, just needs to cut thr crap and throw more punches. Meehan not overly impressive, seemed a bit slow but did enough to get the win.
117-114 118-110 I think.
SNVDoublePunch! 09-02-2010, 08:38 AM My bet was so wrong it I am going to punch myself in the face. Thanks for the update.
Philfy 09-02-2010, 08:11 PM Judging from Quinn's childish behavior, he wasn't fully focused on the fight.
:lame:
Yep, not sure what he was trying to achieve. There were reports he was looking to base himself out of Australia after this fight. It wasn't a particularly impressive debut on his behalf.
A little bit of showboating can be ok at times, but just carrying on like that for the whole fight was, as you say, childish and clownlike. Not too many people were laughing by the end.

I felt sorry for Meehan too, its not just embarrassing for Quinn when he carries on like that, its embarrassing for his opponent too.
Kali is in the corner receiving instructions from his trainer while Quinn is dancing with the ring card girls. It was funny the first time but it turned the whole main even into a joke. The trainer needed to have some balls about him and get his fighters head in the game.
On another note, i hope Brunker and Dib run into each other soon!
vanism 09-09-2010, 03:58 AM F4ck knows what Quinn was up to?!?!?! He looked to be the better fighter the few times he took it to Meehan and engaged but it was too few and far between. He would start teh round off with a great flurry and then drop off and go back to show boating.
Something fishy going on there.
Props to Meehan though, I'm a fan of his.
