JAMES TONEY CLEARED ON "STEROIDS!"

REPORT SAYS TONEY "STEROID FREE"

According to Steve Springer of the Los Angeles Times, the New York State Athletic Commission will reverse itself by lifting James Toney's suspension for supposedly being on Steroids. It seems an additional series of tests done on Toney's urine taken April 30 came back "negative." On that night Toney, the former middleweight, super middleweight, and cruiserweight titleholder, he beat champion John Ruiz across the board over 12 rounds, this for the WBA heavyweight title in the famed Madison Square Garden arena.

TONEY HAS PROCLAIMED INNOCENCE FROM START!

The steroid Toney was supposed to have tested positive for "Nandrolene,"
a drug (steroid) that is often used in repairing physical injuries. Anyway, it appears the New York Commission will have to give Toney back the $10,000 they fined him, and change the decision in the record books back to a Toney win, this instead of a "no contest."

DESERVES APOLOGY FROM ALL WHO POINTED FINGER

Being one of the guys that jumped on this story, Toney deserves an apology from myself, and everybody else that painted him with the "steroid" brush in regards to the Ruiz fight. Personally, I think Toney's used steroids prior. But that may have been at the direction of an MD seeing he has had some pretty serious physical injuries. Having been cleared by the New York Commission, the $64,000 question in boxing today is will the WBA give Toney back what is rightfully his, the WBA heavyweight title?

Toney already admitted he used steroids and he said the doc gave it to him. How can anyone say he is innocent now? He said he took steroids, but was prescribed them.

....Part of this story was post on the main page by Rick. I didn't see anything in his story about the decision being reversed, and just that Toney is clean "now".

You idiot.

Try having a CLUE as to what you're talking about before you open your yap.

Toney admitted his doctor gave him medication, that *as a side effect* causes the body to NATURALLY PRODUCE Nandrolene.

He never admitted he took steroids you stooge.

Who should he fight next? I think fighting Brock is a legitamate title defense.

...I would rather have James Toney as WBA champ than Ruiz any day of the week. It would also set up some great fights. However, even is this is true, the lawsuits will come fast and furious.

Dont be to sure, Don King is now James Toneys co promoter. So I dont see King sueing one of his own. He would rather have Toney the champ then boring Ruiz.

Isn't Brock eyeing a Wlad K matchup right now or something? That's what Cooler reported in that Cotto/Branco thread.

Now that Vitali is unavailable (and was uninterested anyway), Toney Byrd is the big fight at Heavyweight.

Yeah thats true, that finally leaves Chris Byrd to loose his title with all of the other Heavyweights booked. Lights Out on the IBF champ if this happens.

Chris Byrd would beat James Toney. He would run around in circles around Toney. Late KO.

Right because he's looked so fantastic in his last few fights, coupled with not having fought since last November.

It's not like Toney is better than Oquendo who arguably beat Byrd....

Byrd doesn't move nearly as much as he used to, and has elected to stay stationary in his fights with Oquendo and McCline...he arguably lost both of those fights. Toney is twice the fighter that those guys are...I think Toney would have an easy night beating Byrd.

"Late KO" - ahahahahaha funniest thing I've read all week.

....At this point in time Toney would probably rape Byrd.

Does anyone know though if this is true? (Toney getting his gold back). Toney is usually on The Best Damn Fights when they are on, so I will be sure to watch tonight. Hopefully they clear it up more there.

I think the only news is that he's cleared to fight again.

Getting the belt back is just a rumor. It would be all over ********* and ********** if that was the case.

Thats what I thought but if he tested negative after all wouldnt he get it back? Do you think he will end up being the champ again from this?

If a lousy 3 month suspension is supposed to send the mess. that using steroids is not tolerated then it failed miserably. Most fighters go longer than that inbetween fights anyway...wheres the lesson?

according to this sites article, toney is testing neg. NOW..not then. And cause of that he's being cleared to fight again.

From what I understood of the article, only if he beats the current champ. I could have it wrong (wouldnt be the first time) but apparently he's clean NOW, which is the reason the suspension was dropped or whatever. I'd say the Ruiz camp would have an absolute hissy fit if they took the belt that way....and make a mess situation extremely ugly. Hopefully, Ruiz will face off with him again in the near future and toney can win that belt back! ;)

Damn.. Well though read the article the first kid wrote on here and it says the yare reversing the decision back to a win for Toney and giving him the title... so is there hope for him getting it back.

Maybe, but I really doubt it. Maybe Rick and co. will put up a final word on it soon.

If they fight again, Ruiz won't make it to the final bell imo.

Yeah, I think they just tested him for reinstatement and if he was negative he would be able to box again not get the title back. Ruiz is a ***** and knows Toney would beat him in a rematch. I don't think he would fight Toney again unless Don King can make it happen. I just remember that stupid letter that Ruiz wrote in regards to a Toney rematch and he basically said he didn't think James deserved a rematch since he cheated the first time. Oh well at least James can fight someone else with a title... if they risk facing him of course.

So if Toney's win over Ruiz is legit, and then he goes on to fight Byrd (who beat Vitali, the guy most people consider #1), wouldn't that make the winner of a Byrd vs. Toney the real heavyweight champ? This would be awesome because it would force Vitali to establish his credibility, huraaaaah!

Nice thought on James Toney there. Wait, is that a Roy Jones pic? Uh oh Mr. Lightweight...
