View Full Version : HBO Sept 24: Cotto Vs Branco! W. Klitschko Vs Brock + Peter Vs SinalSam a possibility
!! Mr. Soprano 07-21-2005, 02:16 PM HBO September 24: Miguel Cotto-Gianluca Branco!
By G. Leon
July 21, 2005 - Undefeated WBO junior welterweight champion Miguel Cotto has secured the September 24 HBO date that was originally on hold for Vitali Klitschko. Moments ago, Bob Arum confirmed what reliable sources informed us early this morning. Miguel Cotto will be taking on Gianluca Branco, likely at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Top Rank will have nothing to do with the televised co-feature. Fights under strong consideration to get the slot are Wladimir Klitschko-Calvin Brock, and Samuel Peter-Sinal Sam.
!! Mr. Soprano 07-21-2005, 02:17 PM Not sure about Cotto's opponent, but that would be an awesome night if all these fights came through.
Pac Man Fan 83 07-21-2005, 02:33 PM I agree. I don't even care which heavyweight fight they decide to show, it will be a good night.
oldgringo 07-21-2005, 02:46 PM Wow...Wlad vs. Brock would be a great fight. Brocks not an overwhelming puncher but he's a nice one. That'd be a good fight for Wladimir to gain back some confidence if he could KO Calvin.
I hope these fights all go through. Cotto's never in a boring fight either.
the cotto fight is smart. top rank has been smart in all cottos fights. its all mental. he beat ndou more ocnvincingly then mitchel did, he beat sosa more convincingly that maywaether, he KO'd corely which mayweather n judah couldn't do, and now if he can KO branco, which gatti couldn't do...... its all mental.... everything is 10% phsyical, 90% mental
ELPacman 07-21-2005, 02:50 PM Wasn't Branco the guy that was giving Gatti a boxing lesson until Gatti landed that left hook in like the 9th or 11th round that turned the fight around? Although I remember it being still close on the score cards. Hmmm hmmm?
borikua 07-21-2005, 02:54 PM Great news....
jack_the_rippuh 07-21-2005, 02:56 PM I can't wait for Cotto to get exposed.
Branco fights tomorrow night also. Either way, Cooto's gonna' walk through this guy.
....I agree that it's a good card no matter what heavyweight fight they set up.
Eric Persson 07-21-2005, 03:27 PM I want to see the HW-fights more than Cotto-Branco. Branco has such a padded record and for a boxer to get easily outboxed by Gatti, you know Cotto is going to have an easy night. Brock-Klitschko and Peter-SSS is good even fights on the paper.

RabbitPunchBoxing.com had this news and more on 07/10! 11 days before the so called "Remember where you heard it first" website!. I even sent Greg this news on 07/13 to correct him that he wasn't the first one with the Mosley news. See my email below.

sisforshaq 07-21-2005, 04:39 PM Then Rabbitpunch why dont you have Toney being the champ again? I didnt see it on your website
RabbitPunchBoxing 07-21-2005, 05:14 PM Yo sis....I'm not sure what you mean but I am referring to how ********** knowingly lied by saying they are the first one to post up Cotto-Branco and the Mosley fight. Greg knew it because I told him 11 days ago!! It's plain to see

Not being champ but being reinstated.. I was just wondering why it wasnt on your site.. not a downgrade I love your site plus you know my dad who manages Bobby Gunn.
RabbitPunchBoxing 07-21-2005, 05:27 PM Hey that's cool Sis. Didn't know Richard was your dad. Awesome! Toney being reinstated was common knowledge since he was suspended for 90 days beginning April 30th. Doesn't take a press release from them to tell us he will come off the suspension July 30th. I'm not trying to claim that we are a better website than ********** or that we have more breaking news then they do. I'm not that stupid to make that claim. We have a $0 budget with a handfull of writers while BT charges $5/month, has about 100 employees and they all work full time! They should be ashamed of themselves for getting outscooped by us.

Haha that is true but I just had a question about Toney, with this happening will he become the champ again? According to some website it says that the NY state athetic commision will reverse the decision and give James the win. Do you know if theres any truth to that happening?
RabbitPunchBoxing 07-21-2005, 05:35 PM Toney will not be champ again unless he beats a champion without testing positive for steriods. There is a 0% chance that the decision will be reversed and the title given back to Toney.

Damn, I really was hoping that would be true.. see the thread about Toney being reinstated.
RabbitPunchBoxing 07-21-2005, 05:49 PM Yeah I read the article but if James Toney tested positive for steriods right after the fight, he loses his title. I'm not sure how accurate this "new" test is but I don't think the WBA would have given the title back to Ruiz unless they saw he tested positive. If in fact it turns out that there were no steriods in his urine then I agree that he should be given the title back but it wouldn't hold my breathe on that happening.
cotto vs judah at madison square garden!

...If that's true then that's some dirty ****.
DiegoFuego 07-24-2005, 01:40 AM no way in hell is Wladimir Klitschko really fighting Calvin Brock. Brock would absolutely DESTROY this no-chinned pansy. Guarantee this fight "falls apart" (Klitschko backs out) due to "negotiation problems" (Klitschko backs out) on "Brock's" (Klitschko's) part. :D
DiegoFuego 07-24-2005, 01:46 AM Wasn't Branco the guy that was giving Gatti a boxing lesson until Gatti landed that left hook in like the 9th or 11th round that turned the fight around? Although I remember it being still close on the score cards. Hmmm hmmm?
Thank you for realizing this. A lot of people either missed this fight the first time around or tried to forget it. I had Gatti winning by only a point thanks to the knockdown he got over Branco in the 10th round. That was a life and death battle for Gatti whether people like to admit it or not.
Leo Pradun 07-24-2005, 04:45 PM no way in hell is Wladimir Klitschko really fighting Calvin Brock. Brock would absolutely DESTROY this no-chinned pansy. Guarantee this fight "falls apart" (Klitschko backs out) due to "negotiation problems" (Klitschko backs out) on "Brock's" (Klitschko's) part. :D
u dont know **** he is on the way back to becoming champ again and he will destroy brock...
Leo Pradun 07-24-2005, 04:51 PM If this night ever happens it would be nice. It would be much better then the Don King August 13th card, you got Cotto who is always fun to watch, Wladimir Klitschko on his way back to being champ vs a hot prospect like Brock, and then u got the hard hitting Sam Peter vs a reall good opponent like Samil Sam, cant ask for anything better then this card...
zabkillsspinks 07-24-2005, 05:28 PM Wasn't Branco the guy that was giving Gatti a boxing lesson until Gatti landed that left hook in like the 9th or 11th round that turned the fight around? Although I remember it being still close on the score cards. Hmmm hmmm?
yes he was so watch cotto dominate and you will see the difference.
and to those saying you dont care which fight they show is crazy. you should want to see both which i dont know what theyre gonna do as far as the barrera-peden replay which they will also probably show. if anything they should cut that out and show all 3 fights that night.
the gatti branco fight was kind of close, it was clear cut, but still like 115-112, or 116-111
Winter 07-26-2005, 07:12 AM Wladimir will win.
Michael Wittmann 07-26-2005, 07:28 AM Wladimir will win.
yeah. i go with this. wladimir will win, and you the haters will cry while brushing your teeth.. :D
pinkpanther 07-26-2005, 07:36 AM I can't wait for Cotto to get exposed.
me neither, unfortunately its not going to happen against Branco - hes ok, Top 20 but he's not quite on Cotto's level. Witter beat him a while ago....actually thats a fight I wouldn't mind seeing Witter V Cotto.
