Don't get me wrong I love Big George Foreman he is one of my favorite fighters of all time, a living legend. But recently it is rumored that Big George is planning a comeback to the ring at the age of 56. In this day and age athletes are staying in the game longer with much success, take a look at Bernard Hopkins and Jerry Rice among other athletes who are well into or on their way into their 40's. But in my humble opinion there comes a point when I feel that an athlete is too old to compete, and 56 years old in a boxing ring is just too much. At that age George should be enjoying his life that he created, be happy and spend the millions - not taking 100's more un needed blows to the head for the taste of past glory. George for your fans and for humanity please dont step in the ring again. I'd hate to see George end up like Ali or Meldrick Taylor. Your thoughts.

Publicity stunt. Don King supposedly offered him 20 mil to fight the John Ruiz - Hasim Rahman winner.

20 million dollars turned down? Big George has no plans of returning in a competitive fight at a high level.

$20,000,000 is chicken feed to George Forman. He is the richest athlete on the planet, thanks to that stupid grill.

I agree, he needs to stay retired. It wouldn't be good for boxing to have a fifty year plus Heavyweight champ after he knocked JOhn Ruiz out.

Its not john ruiz im worried about its some of those other heavyweights. The older you get the more your recuperative powers degenerate, and even if George does beat some of these young guys he will take some blows to the head in order to do it. That is unnecessary blows that a man of his age should not be taking.

George Foreman made a lot of bucks as the grill-meister. Last time I heard, he's doing it for charity. I wouldn't be surprise though, I think that's one of the reason he came back and box because he spend a lot of his money on his community center. But I do agree he shouldn't be boxing, charity or not, period.

George made so much money with the grillmaster, he dont need to take one step in the ring.

He's come back and proved he can be champion once before...but he needs to stay out this time. No way he can compete, and no reason for him to either.

yeah best for him to stay out the ring even if he is being offered 20m it aint necessary, not worth it, i think he is sensible enough to know when enough is enough

Its indeed a publicity stunt.
Maybe he made a deal with the people who bought him out of the grill business to make sure that every now and then he would announce a comeback.

There is no way that Foreman is going to get a title shot.

Also, there is no way DK is going to pay him 20mil for fighting Ruiz. Right now, I don't think Ruiz is getting 2 million for his fights.

This is probably the stupidest thing I have read today, but it is only 8:30 and I have not been to boxingisider yet.

Ok, well, I am going to disagree with all of you. I welcome his return and actually would love to see it. I love to watch his defense. He has that one punch Knock out power. I find his personality rather amusing. He was robbed by Shannon Briggs, which I though he fought a great fight and Big George won it... Then you look at Axel Shultz... He beat the big guy but lost the decisionI can see him beating any of the title holders (IMHO). One punch can end a fight. I thought his fight against Lou Savarese was great. The output that George had was awsome. I think if he is cleared by doctors to fight... Then let him. And no, I do not want to see him hurt. No, he doesn't need the money, but when he fights, he donates a majority of his purse to the church. On a final note, if he were to win a title again, he would solidify his record of being the oldest to win a belt.

yes he did get ripped off against briggs .that is why he retired. but now he is close to 60. not sure i want to see a man close to sixty take unneccesary blows to the head and you know he will take these shots. not a good scenario. just curious whats the sory about your avatar?

I can't believe some posters here think that Foreman could be competitive. They sure are thinking about the past. Do you really think an 8 year layoff plus being 56 or 57 in a year or so, is a recipe for success? Get real. Foreman would not beat Ruiz. It's okay if you don't like the guy but don't come up with that nonsense that Foreman would beat him. Foreman would be lucky if he beat Holyfied or Bowe. I even think that Moorer would take him this time around.

Part of what yopu say is probably sensible but the Bowe or Holyfield bit I'm not so sure about.
