View Full Version : Kung fu styles A.I. the brain 07-21-2005, 01:47 AM what style is the best? tiger, snake, eagle, praying mantis, scorpion etc. DJ_WooDoX 07-21-2005, 01:56 AM Tao of Jeet Kune Do. It proves all those style to be useless on their own. A.I. the brain 07-21-2005, 02:02 AM yeah bruce lee of course, but all i see in kungfu is movies. any chance you seen them in a real fight like ufc or pride? do you think bruce lee (if he's alive) will win against other mma'ers like gracie, sakuraba, ono, etc. kaps 07-21-2005, 02:32 AM Kung fu isnt good for MMA, the few who have tried have been beat down pretty swiftly. I remember this wing sung kung fu dude getting the shit beat out of him by Duane Ludwig in an early KOTC. I seen a couple Jeet Kune Do guys in early IFC's, they got the whole Bruce stance down, but as soon as they're engaged it all sloppy. No Kung Fu guy has yet to leave a mark in a MMA match. I dont think one will come along either.... The Fix 07-21-2005, 04:45 AM what if they have a shaolin or wu tang sword, they'd be unbeatable Mr. Beelzebub 07-21-2005, 10:39 AM See, we need the Special Ed Forum. puppy_dogg 07-21-2005, 10:52 AM jeet kune do is the style of having no style. being free of techniques and fear leaves you free to adapt and face the attack in front of you. bruce talked fondly of adaptation and fighting like water cause water can adapt to anything. if you put water in a glass it BECOMES the glass, if you put water in a tea pot it BECOMES the tea pot. water can be gentle and placid but it can also be powerful and furious like a tide. "be wata my friend, be wata" -Bruce Lee is sakuraba a big bruce lee advocate? whats the story behind his water shirts? Mr. Beelzebub 07-21-2005, 11:02 AM is sakuraba a big bruce lee advocate? whats the story behind his water shirts? http://www.geocities.com/global_training_report/pride_gp.htm "Q: What is the meaning of the word "water" on the new t-shirt you were wearing? A: It's because I can't eat a meal without water." puppy_dogg 07-21-2005, 11:10 AM and all this time i thought it was some deep, philosphical meaning lol, i want a water shirt LHWchamp5 07-21-2005, 12:00 PM Can Bruce Lee be considered the founder of MMA, He never stuck with a single style, infact he's the guy that started to mix certain aspects of each style together = Mixed Martial Arts.. That's why he was known as the greatest at the time.. In one of his movies he is quoted as saying "You fight with routine, I fight freely and with surprise, you will lose this fight, quit now".. Think it was called "The game of death".. The movie is about him going through a 5 story temple on each floor is a fighter with a different style that he has to beat... Cool thing is he really shows his range of fighting skills and speed.. I would have loved to see him in a professional fight. puppy_dogg 07-21-2005, 12:07 PM going through the 5 story temple was his original idea but after he died the movie got changed drasticly, i have the game of death and the concept they turned it into sucks ass, 90% of the movie is not even bruce, its a ****in stunt double. i dont think the original was ever released as a movie. it would have been cool as hell to see him in mma, i honestly think he would have done very well, unless he got taken down, he does'nt seem like he would be a great ground fighter :D punch 07-21-2005, 01:55 PM "what style is the best? tiger, snake, eagle, praying mantis, scorpion etc." 9 millimeter, hollow-point style {BrownBomber} 07-21-2005, 02:41 PM I always thought it was the colt 45,wild west style. Its alot different than the production version. Also Bruce would do excellent if he was taken down in a fight. Bruce lee never limited himself, he was prepared to fight in any situation. Squezze 07-21-2005, 07:03 PM HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!!! SHerdooooooooooooooooooooooooooggggggg!!!!!!!11111 1 How many times has the Bruce Lee topic been done anyways? Mr. Beelzebub 07-21-2005, 11:12 PM The Bruce Lee vs. Frank Dux is a fan favorite... Oh yeah! And Bruce Lee vs. Bolo Yeung in a real fight. God, this place is getting better by the minute kaps 07-22-2005, 01:06 AM Didnt Bolo armbar that black dude in Enter the Dragon? Nobody really invented MMA, people have been fighting for sport for thousands of years, it used to be in the olympics, Pancrase..... A.I. the brain 07-22-2005, 11:53 PM How about Jacky Chan, he rarely uses doubles when he’s shooting movies, at least when he was younger. He can win some MMA fights especially in octagon, using the toprails as jumping platform, and kicking on the way down. No way he will grapple, but he’s agile as a cat, and hide behind the ref’s back. Probably he can surprise opponents at the start of the fights. Its not easy to pin guys down in the light weights, that’s why I can see him escaping from back position. If one can pull it off in kungfu, it might have been him. Squezze 07-23-2005, 08:46 PM How about Jacky Chan, he rarely uses doubles when he’s shooting movies, at least when he was younger. Jackie, Chow Young Fat and the like Even Jet Lee do not come from Kung Fu backrounds. THey were trained in what are called "Ballet Schools" in china. Its geared only tward acting and not fighting at all. Its not ballet either its just acrobatics and gymnastics. If you watch the extras on the Cradle to the Grave DVD you will see in an interview with Jet Lee they ask him if he could fight with any of the fighters in the movie (Randy Cotour, Chuck lidell, Tito Ortiz) He said that he would have no chance for he is just an actor and wouldn't know what to do. vBulletin® v3.7.1, Copyright ©2000-2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
