SEVERAL BOXERS HAVE TAKEN A “CYCLE” OF ‘ROIDS!

Long before they were testing for Steroids at all, guys were using them. I know of roughly a dozen boxers from a junior lightweight to heavyweights that took Steroids, and or Human Growth Hormone. With initials close to, or resembling R.R., J.G., M.T., E.H., R.H., L.L., R.J., V.K., T.M., R.W., S.M., the list of those willing to do almost anything to enhance their ring performance, it is vast. That being said, are we as Americans at a point and time where we accept cheating and those who do so by looking the other way? That appears to be the case!

HAS OSCAR BEEN “TWICE” VICTIMIZED BY “JUICE?”

In September 2002, Oscar De La Hoya was on the verge of being KO’d by Fernando Vargas, whom we suspected at the time, and was later proved to be taking Steroids in training. In what was testimony to his resolve and heart, Oscar hung with Vargas, who prior to the Steroids was a bigger and stronger man, for 11 heats before stopping the gassed Vargas and establishing dominance over someone who knowingly or not, had cheated.

DOES MOSLEY’S BODY COMPARE TO BARRY BONDS?

Then one year later, Oscar loses a close nod to Shane Mosley. Always a weightlifter, Mosley I felt for this fight in particular was more pronounced in the neck and shoulder areas of his body, then he had been prior or since. Then we come to find out Mosley is the “Only” boxer who is on a October 2003 list now in the hands of U.S. Justice Dept. of athletes given “Undetectable Steroids” from Victor Conte’s BALCO lab in Burlingame, CA.

MOSLEY WON’T CLEAR THE DECK & COME CLEAN!

On Tuesday, I penned a piece asking Shane Mosley to break his silence and tell the boxing world what he was taking from BALCO. Here we have a man that has passed a Polygraph exam set up by his Attorney, that seems to indicate he didn’t knowingly ingest Steroids. So why won’t Shane Mosley come clean here? He should hold a Press Conference sans yours truly and tell the world what he was taking, when. And more importantly, “Who brought Shane and BALCO together? Who was it on Team Mosley that Conte told of the Crème or the Clear, their effects, and being undetectable. That’s the $64,000 question Attorney Judd Burstein won’t let Shane answer!

Here's a case of someone talking about a fight he didn't see.
At no point, was Oscar even close to being KO'd by Vargas.
Vargas pushed Oscar back, early on....but his punches were weak.
Vargas looked TIGHT in that fight. the roids backfired on him.
Vargas was more concerned, due to criticism, about how his body APPEARED....not how it worked.

With Roids it is a simple trade off.

Muscles with the bonuses of acne and mood swings .... at the cost of your testicles.

When you say steroids, you give the impression that all they do is make you bigger.

What you are not realizing is there there are a bunch of other performance enhancing drugs that increase enduance, increase adrenaline so you don't feel as much pain, make your eyesight better, so you have better hand-eye coordination, and make you recover from workouts faster.

Someone taking all of Conte's Balco drugs is going to get more than just bigger and stronger, they are going to become a better athlete. Notice that I said better athlete, not better boxer, baseball player, etc because in the case of DLH vargas, DLH had the better technique throughout the fight and wore down Vargas.

If a boxer who is even with another starts taking all these drugs, many of which have very little side effects (unlike the steroids of the 80s) he will have a clear advantage in the fight, but unlike something like Track or swimming, there is more too it than just being faster than the other person in boxing. So you have to look at the big picture.

There is an article in outdoors magazine about a 40 year old guy that started taking these drugs to see the effects and not to compete directly and he talks about the improvements that he makes and how tempting it must be for world class athelets to use and abuse them. I will post a link to it later if I can find it.

I wonder if someone can clear this up for me but I thought RJJ was just taking ripped fuel or something of the like and not roids. I remember reading RJJ saying that himself.

If a boxewr is taking roids then that must mean he's not that good to begin with. Like Teddfy Atlas says "80% of this is mental" and if someone feels the only way they can get ahead is by taking roids then there already doubting themselves

if u already think u can't win without the juice, you'll probably still lose with the juice. it doesn't give users confidence, or technique, it can't stop you from being outboxed

Steroids and other illegal performance enhancing drugs definitely works, just not for boxing in general, I think it definitely improves ones, one punch power and that's probably the only aspect that it works on.

SIDE BAR:I remember that a Filipino world champ, named Erbito Salavaria, was stripped of his title after successfully defending it against a Mexican in Mexico City.

Twas because, in a post-fight lab test, TRACES OF SUGAR were found in the water bottle he sipped from between rounds!!! :o
