View Full Version : BEEN READING AROUND SOME BOXING SITES AND MOST SAY HOPKINS BELTS WERE stolen frmo him Zab Super Judah 07-17-2005, 03:45 AM ********** and maxboxing both have articles about how they felt b hop won and that he landed the more crisper blows..I still got to see this fight but damn rematch has got to happen BigIppoFireworks 07-17-2005, 03:47 AM i think it was all due to the fact that the one judge gave Taylor the 12th... But those early rounds could have gone either way so you could argue that Taylor had already won enough rounds to win the fight. I mean my roommate after hearing the decision started yelling hysterically "BURN IT DOWN!!... BURN IT ALL DOWN!!!" but really i thought it was pretty justified. I saw it at LEAST a draw for Taylor ... if not decision in 12. Super_Lightweight 07-17-2005, 03:48 AM I guess they tuned in at round 9 then. Seriously, the people whose fighter LOST always scream louder, because they LOST. This time however, unlike Oquendo-Byrd, the decision is LEGIT. Nobody stole Hopkins' belts but father time and a country boy from Little Rock, Arkansas. :boxing: MrCoop 07-17-2005, 04:04 AM I guess they tuned in at round 9 then. Seriously, the people whose fighter LOST always scream louder, because they LOST. This time however, unlike Oquendo-Byrd, the decision is LEGIT. Nobody stole Hopkins' belts but father time and a country boy from Little Rock, Arkansas. :boxing: To take the champs belt you have to beat him & Taylor did not do enough in my opinion. Should have been a draw or a Hopkins 115-113. Super_Lightweight 07-17-2005, 04:07 AM The rules are not and should not be adjusted to favor anyone, champ or not. Hopkins didn't do enough to retain his belts. He thought he was going to pull an Eastman on Taylor, and it didn't work. Taylor did do enough, because he won more rounds. The late rounds don't count any more than the early rounds. It was a close fight, I'l say that. Nowhere near a robbery though. 60-70% of people agree Taylor won by my count so far from these polls. Losers scream the loudest. BIGPOPPAPUMP 07-17-2005, 04:11 AM ********** and maxboxing both have articles about how they felt b hop won and that he landed the more crisper blows..I still got to see this fight but damn rematch has got to happen Why are all of your posts in half caps and most of your thread titles misspelled? Makes your posts look bad. BigIppoFireworks 07-17-2005, 04:16 AM we should just appreciate the fight and let the rematch do the talking for both of the fighters... I dont think there will be any doubts after the second fight.... but it was pretty interesting how Taylor's facial expression didn't really show that he was confident about the win... he sort of looked SUPER SURPRISED when they were like "AND ... NEW... WORLD MIDDLEWEIGHT.... CHAMPION".... He needs to just go in there a knock the old fart out... Or the old guy needs to go in there and outwork Taylor for 12 rounds What happened to the good ol' days of middleweights where they just tried to take each other's heads off... wussup with this circling and holding hands??? Whatever happens i think it'll be more action packed... Recluse 07-17-2005, 05:13 AM Guys! B-hop was NOT robbed. His "crisper, cleaner blows" helped him win 4-5 rounds. He lost the rest. Why is that so hard to understand????? This isn't Pride where they judge the overall match. If Taylor won rounds 1-11 by only throwing 5 shots & B-hop won round 12 by throwing 100 shots & knocking Taylor down twice, TAYLOR STILL WINS BY DECISION. Get it? Glenn Gould 07-17-2005, 11:57 AM I wouldn't put him in the same league as Hagler. Hagler fought a prime Hearns (he'd destroyed Duran, and would have destroyed Leonard if they'd fought around this time too) and beat him in one of the most memorable middleweight fights EVER. Hagler also fought and arguably beat Leonard, Fletcher, Roldan,(his quality of opposition was MUCH tougher) and avenged his two previous loses easily. I don't think Hopkins could have avenged his loss to RJJ had RJJ remained a middleweight. The Pretender 07-17-2005, 02:53 PM Only reason Jermain got that second judge's last round was because of the pro-taylor crowd. Had it been pro-Hop it'd have ended the opposite way. Bernard got robbed and this kid was sloppy. They both are skinny runts tho. Ruiz **** them up, both at the same time. Bernard needs to start fast in the rematch. Shaolin Bushido 07-17-2005, 03:24 PM ********** and maxboxing both have articles about how they felt b hop won and that he landed the more crisper blows..I still got to see this fight but damn rematch has got to happen That's how many fans felt when Hagler lost to Sugar Ray. MrCoop 07-18-2005, 03:38 PM The rules are not and should not be adjusted to favor anyone, champ or not. Hopkins didn't do enough to retain his belts. It was a close fight, I'l say that. Nowhere near a robbery though. 60-70% of people agree Taylor won by my count so far from these polls. Losers scream the loudest. You are right the rules should not be adjusted to favor anyone but lets be realistic throughout the history of sports they have. Isn't it obvious when Jerry Rice turns around after an incomplete pass & asks for pass interference that it usually happens even though there was no P.I. How bout that Michael Jordan can obviously push off on Byron Russell in the Finals & not get called for it or that Barry Bonds gets the benefit of the doubt on any corner pitches. All-Time greats get that kind of respect & I have no problem with it because they earned it. Any other great boxing champion fighting that same fight would have walked away with the win or at least a draw. Face it HBO is so ****in glad that Taylor won as they have been pumping him up as the next biggest thing since he came on the scene. Did you listen to the telecast? Lampley & Merchant were talking up missed shots by Taylor but not saying anything about solid shots Bernard landed. Only RJJ, whose actually been in the ring, saw the fight correctly & knew that Taylor didn't do enough to take a 12 year champions belt. Best case for Taylor should have been a draw & for people who say Hopkins lost all first 8 rounds. He won round five easily & rounds like 3, 7, and 8 were very close. Ask youself this, If this same fight was fought by JCC (being Hopkins) & DLH (being up & coming Taylor) would DLH have walked away with this decision? Hell NO! Hopkins is hated by many in the industry because he is a man hard to do business with that fights to have things take place under his terms instead of being walked over& that why one Judge had round 12 to Taylor when everyone with a set of eyes saw that was Hopkins round. I have Taylor winning the fight, 115-113, HBO has the same score. Hopkins won rd 5 & the last four rounds of the fight. Rounds like 3, 7, & 8 were close & could have gone either way & are usually scored toward the Champion. If Hopkins gets 1 of those rounds the fight is a draw. What is ridiculous is that rd 12 was scored on one card for Taylor. Huh I wonder if HBO or any outside force had anything to do with that. elveiel 07-18-2005, 04:15 PM If you scored Hopkins winning then you cant score boxing, there's no doubt Taylor won the majority of rounds. Maybe Taylor didnt win them big but Hopkins has only himself to blame, as soon as he got going he was dominating the fight, it was just too little, too late. The middle weight division is so weak a half cooked talent can become the top dog, Taylors good but not elite yet, guess he'll have to grow into the role because i doubt Hopkins can beat him in the rematch. Just goes to show how much Hopkins has declined as a fighter. MrCoop 07-18-2005, 04:18 PM If you scored Hopkins winning then you cant score boxing, there's no doubt Taylor won the majority of rounds. I HAD IT A DRAW, BUT NO WAY DOES THE CHALLENGER GET THE SPLIT IN A FIGHT LIKE THIS. elveiel 07-18-2005, 04:26 PM IS 6 ROUNDS TO 6 A MAJORITY. NO IT ISN'T. I HAD IT A DRAW, BUT NO WAY DOES THE CHALLENGER GET THE SPLIT IN A FIGHT LIKE THIS. Hopkins didnt start working until late in the fight, even though Taylor didnt do a lot he was still winning the rounds. Hopkins only fought hard for the last 3 which is terrible. I had Hopkins needing a KO after the mid rounds. Saying a champion should get the decision over a challenger just because he's a champion is complete bull****, if you had it 6 rounds each then in your opinion it was a draw. Super_Lightweight 07-18-2005, 04:29 PM Only RJJ, whose actually been in the ring, saw the fight correctly & knew that Taylor didn't do enough to take a 12 year champions belt. Roy never said that really. He said it probably should have been a draw, and even he agreed Hopkins started late. This isn't other sports. There should be no favoritism period. I don't care if Hopkins is champ, he just doesn't get rounds or to keep his title just by showing up. :bottle: That's great that all those guys in other sports got calls they shouldn't have. The only thing of relevance is that they should have never gotten them in the first place. Hopkins should not have relied on such follied thinking being the wise old pro that he is. elveiel 07-18-2005, 04:37 PM Only RJJ, whose actually been in the ring, saw the fight correctly & knew that Taylor didn't do enough to take a 12 year champions belt. Even if Jones said that he doesnt mean its true, i'm not calling Jones a liar but he was the last person to beat Hopkins, he probably wanted to be the last so he can say he fought and beat great fighters. Hopkins was one of Jones best opponents so anything that effect his legacy will effect Jones' because all the "Jones didnt fight anyone" bull**** people say. I'm not saying all he had to do was show up. I'm saying that Taylor needed to do more than he did to take the champs title. & as far as the sport of boxing, throughout the history of boxing Champions have 90% of the time got the benefit of the doubt in close rounds. I'm not saying it is right but that is how it has been for years & it is funny that now it has changed. Shame on you for saying that "this is boxing not those other sports" like boxing is honest & ethical. All those sports I mentioned have more ethics than boxing ever has. oj21 07-18-2005, 04:45 PM I'll give props to Taylor because he got the decision, but I still disagree with the final scores. I thought Hopkins deserve the win and not just because I was rooting for Hopkins. I honestly believe that JT was relying too much on that jab of his to try and set up some thing big that never ended happening. Hop although he did start late, should have gotten the decision.
