Why are fighters like Alex Stewart and Joe Mesi not spoken with the reverence of a Mac Foster or Ron Lyle? They were strong and dominant over much the same comp as the before mentioned fighters so why aren't they spoken about in the same sentences?

Maybe they might in time but neither Stewart nor Mesi even challenged for even a piece of a title. Lyle fought for the undisputed belt and Foster went 15rds with Ali. I guess fighting a undisputed great like Ali or Joe Louis carries extra notoriety.
Mesi might be discussed more down the road because he retired undefeated, reached #1 ranking and never got his shot because of an injury.
