View Full Version : One last Hatton-Zoo question: was it a low blow or legit KD?
!! Anorak 07-12-2005, 02:06 PM You remember... in the eight (ISTR) round, Hatton was dropped and (as the angle from the UK broadcast practically had Hatton's back to the camera) I thought it was all beginning to unravel. But then it was called a low blow and waved off.
Now... be objective. I used to dislike Hatton so much I wrote about his holding and how much he stank (exceptional stamina though). Since the fight I've started to come round as he's got such a slating and I love an underdog.
But forget whether you thought the fight was dirty or not. Forget how Hatton fought. Forget how Zoo fought. Forget the way it ended. Forget whether or not you thought the ref was biased, or the crowd was hostile.
All I'm asking is, in your honest, objective opinion was Hatton legitimately dropped by a punch to a legal target area or whether he was dropped (unintentionally or not - I'm not looking for blame, just the facts as you see them) by a punch that strayed below the waist line.
theironone 07-12-2005, 02:16 PM Low blow imo
elveiel 07-12-2005, 02:32 PM Low blow, without doubt.
hell no, it was a KD. and it shouldn't have just been ignored by the ref
MetalVomit 07-12-2005, 02:37 PM Low blow, without doubt.
the one in your sig is without a doubt a low blow, the one anorak is talking about could have went either way, since it was on the belt line, someone should put that up. I know someone had the sequence in their sig after the fight.

Yeah, IMO the Tszyu shot was low.
I'll try to get it up, i know bozo no no made it.
It was a low blow, because Parris said so. I thought it was low, until the replay. It was a borderline shot, on the belt, which shouldn't have be a problem for Ricky, except that he went down.
elveiel 07-12-2005, 02:44 PM Tszyu hit on the back of the head too
I think its low anyway, i know Hatton has a thick belt but i think its still south of the border. I wouldnt want to take that shot.

I agree..it was on the belt line, which both fighters tend to wear a bit high anyway. The rest was drama to prevent the 10-8 rd., which was smart on Hattons part. I didnt like it, but it was still smart.
Cletus Funk 07-12-2005, 02:45 PM It looked to me like to highest part of KT's glove just touched the bottom of the waistband so I'd say it was low. The way Hatton jumped up and winced as soon as it landed would seem to back this up.

You should have made it a puplic poll, to see how many Tszyu fans said it was legit and Hatton fans illegal.
DiegoFuego 07-12-2005, 03:03 PM Why does it matter? Hatton wasn't hurt, and Tszyu never capitalized. Looked like a low blow to me.
!! Anorak 07-12-2005, 03:35 PM Why does it matter? Hatton wasn't hurt, and Tszyu never capitalized. Looked like a low blow to me.Cos if it wasn't it means Hatton was KDed for only the SECOND time in his 39 fight pro career. I'd say that's reasonably significant.
Having seen that clip I'd say it was BORDERLINE low, but surely that would have been a stomach shot? Lower stomach maybe, but it still means Ricky went down like a girl, doesn't it? I mean, it wasn't one on the nob, that's for sure.

If it had been rule a KD, we would have seen Round 12. The fight was close as it was, and that culd have turned things enough for Kostya (or his corner) to make a differnet decision after the 11th.
Eric Persson 07-12-2005, 03:42 PM I thought it was low.
roberson2u 07-12-2005, 04:47 PM looked a lil low but nothin like hatton's retaliation shot
Cali_Rob 07-12-2005, 06:09 PM Legit knock down, if the ref ruled it a KD I dont think there would be any arguments about it.
LuKahnLi 07-12-2005, 06:20 PM Beltline shot. While it probably made Hatton's cup move, it was still on the beltline and therefore legit.
drez24 07-12-2005, 07:08 PM looks like hatton was trying to overplay it as a low blow with the dramatic jump back, and tszyu caught him off balance and threw him down. but since im a huge kt fan, HaTtOn Sux0rz LOLz rofl.
Both KT and Hatton are guilty to an extent on this one.
mic573 07-12-2005, 07:15 PM Hatton kind of jumps into the punch that caused it to land on the beltline.
Gsand 07-12-2005, 08:45 PM from the gif and the recording i have it looks about an inch or 2 low-substantiating that imo is the fact that i have never seen hatton troubled by a body shot b4 so cant see why he wud go down like that unless it was low...
tsyzu had clearer low blows before that one so maybe another hypothesis wud be that hatton was trying to get a point deducted from tsyzu for continual borderline/low shots
