View Full Version : Michael Katsidis
Greatwhitehope 07-14-2010, 07:37 PM Just a general thread about this great man, when was the last time he fought in Australia and when do people think we'll see him back home again? I'm looking at organising some travel early next year and would love to be able to catch one of his bouts live.
Philfy 07-14-2010, 08:56 PM He hasn't fought here since '06. I think he'll keep campaigning overseas until he wins that elusive world title. Maybe we'd see a defence on home soil after that?
I'm sure he'll be sitting ringside for Marquez/Diaz. I'd love to see him get the winner of that. If he doesn't get that fight, I wouldn't be surprised if his next fight was John Murray in the UK.
Earl-Lesnar 07-14-2010, 08:59 PM Katsidis is a great ambassador for Australian sport.
I wish he got the exposure he deserved over there, but frauds like Mundine and Green hog the limelight, hell i bet Sonny Bill Williams got more time on the sports news for beating that sumo wrestler than Katsidis did for his great performance in England
makes my blood boil
brently1979 07-14-2010, 10:27 PM I co sign this.

ColWallace 07-15-2010, 12:16 AM Here is a great Katsidis article in Queensland's Courier Mail that echoes a lot of the sentiment around here:

Dan... 07-15-2010, 01:35 AM Now that is one hell of an article.
One more round 07-15-2010, 02:53 AM I've heard he can't come back due to trouble with the police.

Bull****. If the cops wanted him back here they'd extradite him.
As for Greatwhitehope's travel plans.... you can't be sure until it's announced. Hard to predict since Kats has fought in the UK, US and Asia all in the last year and a half. Seeing him fight in Houston was awesome - an unforgettable night - so stick tight to your plan, keep an ear out for his next fight and base your plans around that. The winner of Marquez-Diaz 2 has 120 days to defend the WBO belt against him. December is the hot tip at the moment, but you never know. He's much more into the social media these days so likely you'll hear about it on his facebook fan page first.
The important thing is to wait until it's confirmed. Earlier this year he was fighting Guerrera in San Diego on March 28. That changed to Juan Diaz in Houston on the same night. Finally it was Kevin Mitchell in London mid-May. Wait until tickets are onsale is what I'm saying.
I'll be back 07-15-2010, 08:40 AM Bull****. If the cops wanted him back here they'd extradite him....
.
Are you sure about that?

Yes, when Australian police want to bring someone to Australia they use extradition treaties. I'm absolutely positive about that.

Now that is one hell of an article.
Mike Colman is one hell of a sports journalist. Always entertaining and one of the few that seems to really care about boxing in Australia. Queenslanders in here who read the Courier and Sunday Mail regularly will have seen him giving props to guys like Leapai and Mundraby in the past, and he's one of the few that calls Mundine's antics for what they are.
As for the topic itself, I've heard that Katsidis was trying to fit in a quick fight back in Australia this month, but the WBO want him kept on ice so as to be eligible for the winner of the Diaz Marquez scrap.
If the winner of that one doesn't want to fight him, they must be stripped. He's earned another shot.
aus box 07-17-2010, 09:19 PM correct me if im wrong if marquez beats diaz and then signs on to fight khan next since thats wats been talked about katsidis will be elevated to full champ status? if so bring the first defence down under
Greatwhitehope 07-19-2010, 03:35 AM Great article, I'll be keeping my ears and eyes peeled for info of his next bouts.

That is what I thought, but that's what I heard.
