Still, Warrrrrrr Briggs!
ColWallace 07-08-2010, 01:19 AM I'd be interested to hear how the Hurricane's preps are going for the big night.
Philfy 07-08-2010, 09:15 AM IBO cruiserweight boxing world champion Danny Green is on Friday expected to announce a change of venue for his title defence against fellow Australian Paul Briggs.
Green and Briggs are scheduled to fight at the Sydney Entertainment Centre on July 21.
The date is likely to remain the same, but the fight could now be switched out of NSW.
It is believed that combat sport officials in NSW may have reservations about sanctioning the fight in their state.
Two-time light heavyweight world title contender Briggs, 35, has not fought since February 2007.
Green, 37, who has won world title belts in three divisions, is scheduled to make the second defence of the title he won in August 2009.

Interesting. I wonder what their reasons are, and why this is happening less than 2 weeks out from the fight.
brently1979 07-08-2010, 06:58 PM Briggs did have some health issues a few years back I remember.
Philfy 07-08-2010, 08:59 PM THE Danny Green-Paul Briggs cruiserweight world title fight scheduled for Sydney next week is set to be called off because Briggs could not get a licence to fight.
Green has scheduled a media conference for this morning when it is expected he will say the fight is off.
Green was to make the third defence of his IBO cruiserweight boxing world title against ring rusty Queenslander Briggs on July 21. Queenslander Briggs, who twice fought Poland's Tomasz Adamek for a light heavyweight world title, hoped to end a three-year absence from the ring at the Sydney Entertainment Centre.
He has not fought since February 2007, having battled health issues which have since been resolved.

Edit: Now reading just a venue change to Perth. Expect clarification later today.
ColWallace 07-08-2010, 10:44 PM They're shifting it to Perth.
I'm not surprised given that NSW is regulated from nose to arsehole and back again. But surely their gaze ought to focus more on the overmatched Thai and Indonesian fighters (Rey Anton Olarte comes to mind) who come here as cannon fodder for Australian prospects.

*Somebody* sure seems to have stuffed this one up. If they weren't going to sanction it, why didn't they say so earlier? No doubt it has screwed up the travel plans of hundreds of fans who have already booked flights etc.
Was it purely because of Briggs' medical history and inactivity? Were they worried about getting sued if Briggs got hurt? Too bad, because it looks like they're gonna get sued by the promoters now anyway.
Maybe this is the reason Boxa promotions has been on the road. I don't see how anybody could've sanctioned Junmar Dulog v Mitrevski.
Earl-Lesnar 07-09-2010, 12:53 AM Why doesnt green fight someone young and in there prime?
Danny Green vs Marco Huck, anyone?

This thread is about Paul Briggs!!
ColWallace 07-09-2010, 08:21 AM Here is some crappy footage of Briggs sparring recently. Make of it what you will:

I don't think so. Green needs a fight and Briggs needs money and the two men are friends.
The Realist 07-11-2010, 08:02 PM Briggs turned down free sparring against my mate which proves to me where he's at.

I'll be back 07-12-2010, 06:28 AM Cant see Paul lasting 4 rounds in this fight.
Baby Pete was hitting him at will.
This could be over quicker than the RJJ fight.
Philfy 07-12-2010, 09:59 PM Just wondering if anybody here was intending to go in Sydney, but got screwed over by the change of venue?

True, that would have been ****house.
I was initially intending to buy this fight in the hope that Paul could pull this off, but I'm not loving what I am hearing.
One more round 07-13-2010, 01:22 AM I will probably watch it to support Paul. I read his book and really like him.

The undercard isn't exactly loaded either:
Shane Cameron v Daniel Ammann
Brad Pitt v Oscar Siale
Willie Kickett v Jack Asis
Luke Norton v Matt Garlett
Mostyn Niemann v Stuart Stokes
I'm surprised Oscar Siale is fighting again so soon after that war with Domenic Vea.

The prohibitive prices for good seats meant I was on pub watch for this one.
In excess of a grand for the best seats is ridiculous for Green-Briggs. I paid $220 for premium tickets to Diaz-Katsidis and got Rocky Juarez, Jorge Barrios, Jesus Chavez and Daniel Jacobs on the undercard.

I think its a good aussie card IMO
Cameron V Ammann will be a great fight. Ammann had good wins over Vea and McCracken.
Brad Pitt V Oscar will be a great fight as well as both fighters are very tough and come to fight.
Always love seeing cool Willie fight and Asis has been in with some good fighters and will take the fight to willie.
Love Mostyn, this guy will do some damage in this fight and most others down the road.
Oh and Briggs v Green should be good for 3 huge rounds.
