View Full Version : Is James Toney The Hardest Hitter In MMA Now? photomane 07-05-2010, 04:30 PM Agree/Disagree? Junito-Rulez 07-05-2010, 05:37 PM No it's Chris Leben. Stab Judah 07-05-2010, 05:40 PM No it's Chris Leben. That has to be a joke.....http://www.wetheundereducated.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/NotSureIfSerious.png Clegg 07-05-2010, 05:43 PM No. He was never a big puncher. I'm sure he hits harder than Couture of course, but JT's skills were always his biggest weapon, not his power. Had Mayorga fought at 155, I think he would've been P4P among the hardest punchers. Junito-Rulez 07-05-2010, 05:55 PM That has to be a joke.....http://www.wetheundereducated.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/NotSureIfSerious.png He KOed Alessio Sakara, more power than both Tyson and Foreman combined. Actually, he took a dive against Silva. I think Chris Leben could beat Fedor if the fight stays on their feet, if it goes to the ground leben by triangle choke. http://www.cagetoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/chris-leben-ko.jpg http://images.dailyradar.com/media/uploads/ballhype/photos_large/2008/10/18/chris_leben.jpg Left Hook Tua 07-05-2010, 05:59 PM project xxx1 07-05-2010, 06:06 PM igor used to be a beast :headbang: GattiFan 07-05-2010, 06:25 PM No. But he is easily the most technically sound. That being said...I dont see ANYONE standing up with him. They will kimbo slice him. Take him down. Hold him down. Beat him up. Submit or ground and pound him. So Toney Needs to learn to sprawl, avoid the takedown, and ABOVE ALL....how to freaking get back up from his back. If JT can keep the fight standing up...no one can hang with him. Period. Gorilla Dogs 07-05-2010, 07:57 PM Refer to my sig M Deezy 07-05-2010, 08:30 PM cant be too sure till he steps in the cage. and stfu about that ***** leban **** before i slap u with my dick $Natedatpkid$ 07-05-2010, 08:36 PM Melvin Manhoef kills all Miburo 07-05-2010, 09:52 PM Possibly, since he actually uses proper technique and is a proven banger in the ring where it's harder to KO guys. Do I think he has the most raw power though, no. kenso 07-06-2010, 01:04 AM fedor and carwin both have far more powerful shots than JT Gorilla Dogs 07-06-2010, 01:13 AM Carwin has by far the most power. He possibly has mike tyson like power minus the speed. Fk look how he made brock look silly as hell the first round. He could have easily ended it. Carwin has WAY more power ........ by a country mile Left2body 07-06-2010, 02:37 AM No. He was never a big puncher. I'm sure he hits harder than Couture of course, but JT's skills were always his biggest weapon, not his power. Had Mayorga fought at 155, I think he would've been P4P among the hardest punchers. You pretty much said it right there. JT was never a big HW puncher. Actually he was a light HW puncher. If JT actually had power he would've murdered a few HW's with the amount of super clean counter right hands he has landed. -Swizzy- 07-06-2010, 12:34 PM Agree/Disagree? no. Even Freddy Roach who trained him said that Toney couldn't pull a Ray Mercer because he doesn't really have 1 punch power even for MMA. PopoFreitas 07-06-2010, 01:40 PM No. But he is easily the most technically sound. That being said...I dont see ANYONE standing up with him. They will kimbo slice him. Take him down. Hold him down. If JT can keep the fight standing up...no one can hang with him. Period. yeh, sure. Put him against shogun and he'd be limping after 2 minutes. res 07-07-2010, 01:08 PM no. Even Freddy Roach who trained him said that Toney couldn't pull a Ray Mercer because he doesn't really have 1 punch power even for MMA. Freddie Roach has been saying all kinds of things, i don't pay attention to him anymore. Why do people keep talking like mma power is Boxing power. pro Boxers have taken 10 rounds of punishment from Mercer, and Tim Silvia (a guy who was never knocked out in his entire career) was koed in 5 seconds with one punch. The actual answer to the thread question is Ray Mercer by far, but Toney has one punch Ko power in the octagon.. Toney is the most skilled hitter in MMA, not the hardest hitter. res 07-07-2010, 01:11 PM yeh, sure. Put him against shogun and he'd be limping after 2 minutes. 2 minutes? who the heck thinks that Shogun has two minutes to stand with James Toney but MMA fanboys? if Toney times a right hand at the same time as Shogun goes for a leg kick...uh, the right hand will win; and Toney is used to anticipating JABS, which are simply flicks. Konstantin 07-07-2010, 01:43 PM 2 minutes? who the heck thinks that Shogun has two minutes to stand with James Toney but MMA fanboys? if Toney times a right hand at the same time as Shogun goes for a leg kick...uh, the right hand will win; and Toney is used to anticipating JABS, which are simply flicks. While I believe you're correct in Toney having 1punch ko power in mma I seriously doubt that a right hand is better than a leg kick. Simply because the right hand would never land... Clegg 07-07-2010, 01:47 PM Mighty Mo is another guy who punches very hard. If we are bringing kicks into it then CroCop and several others also hit harder than Toney. Jack3d 07-07-2010, 01:52 PM Overall Power it has to go to Overeem or Manhoef. Overeem had Fujita carried out of Saitama Super Arena on a slab Manhoef caved in the side of Mark Hunts skulls. Both are incredible feats. res 07-07-2010, 08:05 PM While I believe you're correct in Toney having 1punch ko power in mma I seriously doubt that a right hand is better than a leg kick. Simply because the right hand would never land... yeah, i never thought about that, Shogun is way to allusive for Toney. :friday: Check_hooks 07-07-2010, 08:38 PM Of course Toney is a harder PUNCHER than any1 in mma except maybe Fedor Toneys mastered the art of punching while other mma fighters have to worry bout kicks boxasmash 07-07-2010, 08:56 PM Carwin hits harder. res 07-08-2010, 02:51 PM Of course Toney is a harder PUNCHER than any1 in mma except maybe Fedor Toneys mastered the art of punching while other mma fighters have to worry bout kicks harder than Mercer? Mercer is the obvious answer to me. Gorilla Dogs 07-08-2010, 03:31 PM Toney is over the hill and isn't known as a knockout artist Toney breaks guys down and hasn't stopped anyone in a while, Toney is a better BOXER but not neccessarely a country mile ahead in punchin POWER. There are harder punchers in MMA but they dont have good technique for combos ect.. K.Webster 07-08-2010, 03:40 PM Toney stopped Greer in his last fight. Greer probably has better boxing/standup skills than most UFC fighters. Trust me, if poor boxing technicians like Liddell can KO Couture, Toney has 100x the ability to do the same - if the fight stays standing. However, if Couture is intelligent, he will take Toney down and win within the first minute. Although, I have a nagging feeling he will want to try and prove his dominance over the vastly outmatched boxer and try to stand up with him, and if he does that it's 'lights out'. I have my doubts that Randy will stand in front of Toney. Randy does, however have a history of standing in front of guys on the feet for too long and getting KO'd, as it happened against Chuck and Lesnar both. Still, in the case of Chuck, he had been successful in the standup in their first fight, and was probably overconfident coming in. In the Brock fight, he had been having success landing strikes, and was probably overconfident in his superior striking coming into that one as well. I don't expect Randy to stand in front of Toney for even a second longer than he has to, but at the same time, I wouldn't be incredibly surprised if he did indeed do so. I consider it a long shot at best, but anything's possible. If it were to happen, I would expect it to come from Randy camping out longer than he needs to rather than being overconfident and trying to strike with Toney. Short of that, it's not inconceivable that he could be caught with an uppercut when he shoots (unlikely, but you never know) or mauled on the inside when he tries to clinch (again, unlikely, but you never know. If anyone knows how to punch on the inside it's Toney; by the same token though, if anyone knows how to control somebody from the clinch, that man is Randy). Mugicha 07-08-2010, 04:05 PM harder than Mercer? Mercer is the obvious answer to me. I agree that Mercer is obviously the hardest puncher in MMA (ever). Does anyone know though if he has plans to fight again? Just out of curiosity. |
