Anybody remember him, rate him? paul750 07-07-2005, 02:52 PM beat roberto duran then just wasted his talent, there was an interview with him a while back with steve bunce, it was very sad. JUYJUY 07-07-2005, 03:03 PM He was on the telly last night, but nobody knew it was him/who he was. It was a chat show called 'Trisha' and they called him Kirk, he was there asking for help for his overweight wife. Was really weird, but I just know it was definately him though! I bet nobody else had a clue that he was a former top boxer. I think it's fair to say that the drugs got him ;) He was some talent though, low hands, big dreadlocks, so awkward.. we had a trend of awkwardness from Laing to Graham to Eubank to Hamed. Boxclever 07-07-2005, 03:09 PM Sad story isn't it. :( theironone 07-07-2005, 03:24 PM Very sad, Laing could of been so much more JUYJUY 07-07-2005, 03:27 PM It was a repeat in the early hours, you know what I mean? I just flicked the telly on and there he was! Cletus Funk 07-08-2005, 03:42 AM I agree, total waste of talent. I watched the Duran fight a few weeks ago and still couldn't believe how comfortably he won it. pinkpanther 07-08-2005, 05:44 AM Steve Bunce did an expose on him a few years ago - he went out to find him in London, basically he was at his worst with the drugs and booze and was a tiotal mess, it was really sad to see, he was a very good fighter but to be fair even when he was supposedly at his best in and around the Durran win he was a bit nuts - he would regually disapear for days in drug fuelled binges - it explains some of the odd results in his career. Boxclever 07-08-2005, 06:19 AM God I Started this thread and have depressed myself :( :( barryboy 07-08-2005, 08:16 AM Obviously the Duran fight was his biggest win but my personal favourite is when he beat George Collins in the late 80's, this was my first time seeing Laing and I couldn't believe how he could keep his hands down so much without getting caught it was amazing and the punch he caught Collins with just short circuited the guys body it was a crazy ko. I get a bit annoyed with guys like Laing because he was such a naturally 'gifted' guy & could have done so much more in boxing if he'd only been more dedicated(I would like to ask him what was going through his head when he was running wild after the Duran fight, party for a bit but not a year mate!) |
