View Full Version : Favorite Old School Video Game
Detroit Cobra 07-07-2005, 11:13 AM I asked this on BI, but since you guys have a true arcade section, I'll throw it up here as well.
What is your favorite old school video game? And when I say old school, I mean NINTENDO ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM and EARLIER. Genesis is NOT allowed. So, dig through your memory and come up with your favorite NES, Atari, Colecovision, Intellivision, etc. games from the past.
Mine is probably the original Pitfall! for the Atari 2600. Love the tradition and it still can be a fun game to play. Not as insanely fun as when I was a kid, but great none-the-less.
Discuss.

Hey OG, do you by chance have a picture of Dracula from Castlevania II? I have the game still, but never beat it as a child. That game is a classic, and is probably still fun to play today. All this talk is inspiring me to dig out my NES.
phallus 07-08-2005, 11:36 PM there used to be this game, arcade only, in the late 80's called Empire City, where u shoot it out through the streets of chicago in the 30's and finally assassinate Al Capone. i love that game, when i was a kid it was either that or 1942

SacTown1 07-10-2005, 08:09 PM Greatest old-school games for each system, IMO of course:
NES: Contra, Mario 3, Baseball Stars, Tyson's Punch-Out
SNES: Riddick Bowe Boxing, NHL 95, Street Fighter 2
Genesis: Holyfield Boxing, Sonic 2
Rok_31 07-11-2005, 02:01 AM I was all about RBI Baseball and Tecmo Bowl as a kid. Mega-Man games were pretty sweet too. One of my favorites was Arch Rivals. 2 on 2 basketball game that had no rules and you could just steal the ball by punching the other guy in the face. Always wanted to hold the other team scoreless but i would mess up and win something like 198-4.
My best friend's older brother tried to beat the piss out of me once after i erased a 30 point second half deficit in Double Dribble. I could not miss from three point land and couldn't help laughing. Took a couple of charlie horses but it was WELL worth it. Best part was that i sucked at the game and we all knew it.

DAMMIT i forgot Tecmo Bowl, which I believe will always be the #2 football video game in history, behind the Madden legacy....I liked Double Dribble, but Jordan v Bird had better animation....did you ever play Bases Loaded? I believe it's the only baseball game where batters could charge the mound....
itsbusdriver 07-11-2005, 06:32 PM The Legend of ZELDA.. i still can beat that game in one try on my NES emulator
