This is the same dude that used to talk about himself in 3rd person every 20 seconds, direct every commentary toward himself in some way, and used to dog anyone and everyone within 3 weight classes of his own.

Now the guy is morphing into George Foreman praising all the underdogs and kissing the asses of everyone from John Ruiz to James Toney to Tarver and Johnson.

Is the guy just kowtowing for his commentator gig, or has he been ion deep therapy and/or on Zoloft?

Maybe after getting knocked cold twice on the trot has made him appreciate other fighters skills a little bit more

Damn its about time someone else relized what I have been saying for years. Jones is so arrogant. always speaks in third person and even recently he still finds some way to throw comments in about himself. Remember Toneys win over Ruiz when they were discussing boxers who come in with chiseled bodies and how Toney was not one of them? Remember Jones "Toney is not going to come in chiseled like an Evaynder Holyfield or a Roy Jones" Every single commentary he finds a way. What he needs to be saying is "no one gets KTFO by two nobodies, whose careers I out on the map, besides Roy Jones." OR "you know I have seen boxers get KTFO but when Tarver hit me I was actually watching my own fight from the first row of seats."

Anyway I think that Jones simply wants to fit in as a good commentator and he wants to have a long career as a commentator. You have to morph into someone that the people love or at least the people at HBO love. He feels that by doing this he is doing such. I think he will try one more fight against b hop and then just retire and sit on his commentating gig and rake in easy money that you dont have to get beat the hell out of to get.

Haha yeah I remember that. He mentioned something about just because your not in a ferrari doesn't mean you can't win the race. In other words he has a Ferrari body. What a ****.

This is definitely a possibility. Being in the losers bracket may have humbled him a bit. Too bad those knockouts couldnt have happened to him several years ago. But when you fight retired cops and guys who box part time and work part time in the movie theatre what do you expect?

Not really, hes a fighter, and hes proud of himself, hes accomplished alot, more than any of us on this board in his respective field, he has every right to feel that way and i dont blame him, because id probably be the same way if i made a living beating the **** out of people, and i only failed at it 2 times in my whole life.

Yes Jones can be happy about being an accomplished fighter and he has probably accomplished more than any of us on the board when it comes to boxing only. But I am sure that everyone here has their niche in life that they excel at. Jones trains 8 hours a day seven or six days a week. I am sure that if the rest of us had done that since the time we were five or six years old that we would be outstanding fighters too. I am sure that there are many doctors, lawyers, engineers, teachers or whoever else on this board and they in their respectvie fields excel beyond jones capabilities. Besides that you never know one of these very members could be Floyd Mayweather or Vitali Klitchko (who in the eyes of many members is even greater than Roy)

The differences, thousands of people dont gather in a stadium/arena/venue to watch a lawyer defend someone, doctor perform surgery etc. Thousands of people admire Roy Jones for what hes done.

Im gonna assume after reading a hilarious post you made about VK in the Gatti thread that you were joking.

And no, none of these members are those fighters, they dont have time to be sitting here trading nonsense with us. When they do, its usually a featured thing anyway. The point is, Roy is accomplished, he can say whatever he wants, hes earned it, period. You may not have to like it, but it doesnt make him a dickhead for thinking he has a chiseled figure.

The fact of the matter is, Roy on TV after a fight and Roy commentating or in the street are different people. The fact is, none of you know Roy, so stop *****ing and get a life. Wow. Roy is the kind of guy to talk to any person who comes along, and that's not arrogant.

If you can't deal with athletes talking in 3rd person, you shouldn't be hatin on just Roy cuz about half of all athletes out there do it, and maybe you would too in their situation...

:boxing:

Some of you take Roy a little too seriously, obviously.

take a slice of your own advice, "Stop *****ing and get a life" Roy's career is O-V-E-R, he's a decade past his prime, and never fought a single competitive opponent until his last 3 fights where he went 1-2 with the 1 win being controversial

That has nothing to do with what hes saying. Hes saying dont cry over roy talking about himself, when hes earned the right too. Yea, Roy is probably ****in gone and shot, but hes still Roy.

you don't have to "earn the right" to talk about yourself, anyone with a pair of lips can talk, the issue is that Roy's a better talker than a fighter at the present time, so his words don't carry any weight any longer....the 3rd person nonsense is just a consequence of the copy-cat society we live in, somebody thought Ali and Sugar Ray sounded super-duper-cool when they did it, so chumps like Karl Malone and Roy Jones copy their act and try to pump up their already inflated ego's

Roy is the best commentator in sports today. He knows boxing better than any commentator knows their respective sport. But we'll leave it at that.

He's not so hot in the ring. :D

Dont pull this "copy cat" society ****. Black people in the slave days were talking just as good **** as Ali did in his prime. The difference is, Ali had the mic in front of him. Ali isnt the first black man to talk a good game of **** and he certainly wont be the last.

Dont try to pull the "society of sheep" card, please, accomplished people at high eschelons of society have been speaking in the 3rd person for years.

OH NO, YOU SAID SUGAR RAY LEONARD! How dare he call himself Sugar Ray! After the great Sugar Ray Robinson! How dare he, in this copycat society call himself that.

OH WAIT, Sugar Ray Robinson is a copycat too! because wasnt even his real ****ing name!

Get over that, everyone is a copycat, unless you invented the ****ing wheel or whatever, people emulate things they like. Im sure you didnt make your own clothes, so stop copycatting society by buying clothes someone else made.

Your not original, your not clever, and your not above anyone else, and your sure as hell not any better than anyone else in this copy cat society we live in, its a copy cat world, people see something they like, they get influenced by it and work off it, every great musician, artist, designer, sports star had an influence.

I ALREADY said that we're in a copy-cat society, thanks for taking 6 paragraphs to simply re-iterate my point, don't join any debate teams

Look again at what you said.

the 3rd person nonsense is just a consequence of the copy-cat society we live in, somebody thought Ali and Sugar Ray sounded super-duper-cool when they did it, so chumps like Karl Malone and Roy Jones copy their act and try to pump up their already inflated ego's

Your point was that Roy Jones and Karl Malone are somehow wrong for taking the trash talk role that these 2 have taken previously, my point is that copy catting is around and will always be around. You say "copy cat" society like its wrong, you convey your point in a way that says you mean it in a dergatory way, then you say the people who do it are chumps.

You have to look at how your saying it, and think about how others will interpet, before you come to the standard of "oh well, i already said that, so you wasted your time!"

If you said something like that in a debate, someone would assume your taking a opposing position by the way that you worded your post.
