View Full Version : Somthing roy jones said that shocked me.
triggerhappy 07-06-2005, 09:55 AM During the gatti fight roy was asked what should of gatti done to win the fight roy's words "Gatti should not of taken the fight with FMJ" To me those are cowards words.I hate when boxers duck each other from fighting. Most of the fighters nowadays are p@#$%.
manila_assasin 07-06-2005, 09:57 AM In fairness to Roy maybe he meant that because he just feels sorry for Gatti being peppered like that. That's Just IMO. peace bro.

I am not, Roy has always called it down the line. Roy shoots the straight facts regardless of how harsh they are. Gatti had no viable reason to bein there with Mayweather.
TRUEVisionDC 07-06-2005, 10:05 AM I think he said that with a bit of sarcasm. He didnt mean it literally. The same question could have been asked prior to the fight and he would have given a completely "analyzed" answer...
RJJ has been there done that. gatti didn't have to take that fight, he wants to fight tho. he doesn't care if he loses, obvously he wants to win. but he wants to always prove himself
well the question was 'what could gatti have done to win'..and roy basically said nothing. styles make fights....i think someone should watch that commentary again...lol
DiegoFuego 07-06-2005, 02:17 PM Roy based the entire 2nd half of his career on not taking dangerous fights. Why are you surprised he said that?
xKillingJokex 07-06-2005, 02:20 PM Give credit to Gatti for even wanting that fight. I mean..truthfully his chance of winning was real slim..but he took on the challenge and lost. But..at least...hes out there, willing to fight anyone.

GREAT CALL, the list of guys that Roy coulda/shoulda fought (Darius, a prime Hill, Nunn, Brewer, Benn, Rocchiagiani) is more impressive than the list of guys that he actually did fight, it's no surprise that he would encourage and accept other fighters ducking quality opponenets

you're saying a super middle weight fighting a heavy weight isn't dangerous?
DiegoFuego 07-06-2005, 02:31 PM picking the one heavyweight holding a title that's tailor-made for you isn't my idea of impressive. Toney beating Ruiz is more impressive to me just because Ruiz had recently beat Rahman, Oquendo, and Golota in succession.
and again he didn't condone ducking. please watch it again. he basically meant that there was nothing gatti could do to win the fight.

so tony beating ruiz is more impressive than jones beating ruiz.
i get it now....
DiegoFuego 07-06-2005, 02:35 PM it is to me. Ruiz KNEW how Toney was gonna try to fight him and still lost. Roy surprised him, and Ruiz never had a chance PLUS the referee was on his side.
Toney came in and did the same thing without a referee to keep them apart.
Now Toney is the best heavyweight in the world, and Roy has been knocked out twice. :boxing:

hahahahaha
DiegoFuego 07-06-2005, 02:35 PM At least learn how to spell his name if you're gonna try to downplay his accomplishments

how did roy surprise him? ruiz knew that roy was a quick counter puncher and even slimmed a little to try to be more agile. everyone knew what roy was going to do. did ruiz think roy was gong to slug it out? how did ruiz get surprised? just cuz he ddn't account that roy was as good as he was?...that's pretty lame.
At least learn how to spell his name if you're gonna try to downplay his accomplishments
TonEy
i know how to spell his name. you haven't heard of a typo? and i'm not downplaying his accomplishments. he's a great fighter. i'm just saying it makes no sense to congradulate toney in beating ruiz and not do the same for roy. it makes no sense.
DiegoFuego 07-06-2005, 02:57 PM okay, they were both solid wins, but you have to admit that Toney stood his ground and pounded Ruiz's head in while Roy played hit and run all night. Roy won a decision over Ruiz, while Toney beat him up.
