View Full Version : 1000 pushups, 1000 situps idea?!
XionComrade 07-03-2005, 07:54 PM I am planning on using the same technique I used to get to 400 situps to go on to 1000, same with pushups, but I can only do 25 pushups!
Ok what I do is 10 sets of 100 situps spacing out the sets as little as possible, eventually, actually pretty quickly, the gap starts to close that I take in between sets until I am doing the goal number fairly easily!
But as for situps I am trying to get to the point where I can do 100 fairly easily, then I will do the same thing for them!
Ill do this stuff early in the day, late around nighttime Ill lift some weights, by then ill be cooled down enough to do so!!
Is this a bad idea?

Hunna 07-05-2005, 12:32 PM hahahahahahah, enjoy having stomach cramps at 1000 situps! and dead pecks. u will find gettn outta bed in the morning difficult.
plus this thread is weird, who would waste there time doing that many pushups and situps..., hold a weight on ya stomach if u dont wanna do that many situps.
SalvaDominicano 07-05-2005, 12:53 PM u not gonna see **** unless u use weights for ur abs... u need to eat right too.. u can do all the sit ups u want if u dont eat right u wont have abs
blockburna944 07-05-2005, 05:24 PM True, you won't look like a bodybuilder or nothin after doing that, but it will make you very strong. The sit-ups especially will help with core strength and endurance. most special forces training involves a lot of push-ups and sit-ups because they need to be able have a combination of strength and endurance. i say go for it.
puppy_dogg 07-05-2005, 05:39 PM i heard that brad pitt did a thousand sit ups a day to prepare for fight club, remember how his **** looked? i would do them in reps of 200 but if you cant reach that yet then 100 should be fine. i dont see why it would hurt to do 1000, as long as your doing them correctly, thats the biggest thing.

u heard. i doubt.
hectari 07-05-2005, 07:28 PM I do 100 sit ups 3 times a week a total of 300 sit ups a week if I can do more ill push for it but for begginers start out with that, then when your body adjusts you can do 1000 situps a week....What makes the abs show is losing your body fat lots of cardio.
Slipx 07-05-2005, 07:44 PM Yeah, do sets of 200 situps every day if you want to have a ****ed up back when you get old like Tysons.
do what i do. i have ripped abs and i dont do situps
i lay down with my arms stretched above my head, feet stretched out
i tuck my knees in and bring my elbows down to where my fists are on the side of my head, then retract and thats one rep

Those actually work better crunches work better also. I actually like doing the knees to elbows best you only have to do about 30 every other day and they really work the abs and obliques.
XionComrade 07-05-2005, 10:24 PM Ron Lyle did 1000 situps and Pushups, I still don't know if he was a genetic puncher or not, but man did he ever hand it to Foreman before he got KOed lol!
Warhawk46 07-06-2005, 12:23 AM Ron Lyle was a big, strong, tough man...he got stabbed in prison, spent lots of time in the joint.
That was an awesome fight, a pure slugfest. I think I will pop it in right now!
Anyways, I say go for it. It really is overtraining, but athletes are in a constant state of overtraining. Their bodies adapt. If you are already an athlete, you will adjust fairly quickly.
I usually do a couple hundred a night before bed. Push ups i do sets of 50. I can do more, but i like doing these slow and controlled on the way down, explosive on the positive.

very true, u can f$%^ ya back, but any sorta stomach exercises can fark ya back, i had trouble lying down flat once becos i had poor situp technique... and damn did that create problems when it came 2 dealing with the ladies haha
Kid Achilles 07-06-2005, 07:34 AM Crunches won't cause any problems at all if done correctly. Do them slowly with a lot of tension in your abominals and obliques. Really squeeze the abs so you feel it.

again I agree, seems we share the same work out techniques. I usually do hold squeezes I crunch and squeeze my abs for 2 seconds and go back down. I barely do 30 and my abs are in pain My six pack has never been better.
Kid Achilles 07-06-2005, 06:13 PM The one thing I'll never understand is how people can still do situps when they cause so many problems and are less effective. It actually causes me to get angry when I see someone doing situps, especially if it's with sloppy form.
BTW, do you do crunches on an ab ball? I like to do an ab routine on the mat (I actually use the old cheesy 8 minute abs routine which is effective at getting the frontal and oblique abs if you use a lot of tension and proper breathing) and then finish off on the ball. You'd be surprised how effective that thing is.

^that ab ball is awesome! I tried it a couple times at the gym but I always get nervous cause alot of people were telling me if you slip your hurt yourself bad.
XionComrade 07-07-2005, 12:48 AM Is it safe for me to do this 6 days a week?

What is better, doing pushups with your hands in a ball or flat out? I do both.
streetdreams 07-08-2005, 05:55 PM sorry guys I used to box and now am strictly weights and you guys got alot of things wrong. not to offend anyone. ok lets start
maxin out push ups and sit ups isnt gonna make MORE muscle (and why would you want to if your training?) but it is gonna make you stronger endurance wise and over a period of time totally lean you out. if you dont have abs now you deffinitly will within 2 months. you cant MAKE muscle unless you tear muscle and the ONLY way to tear muscle is to PUSH it beyond the limits which it knows (your personal max of weight used). reps cant achieve this, they just make you strong and with enough reps they burn fat.BUT when you add
to the weight load your body basically tells it self '**** that was more than I could handle, time to build new BIGGER muscle' thats how muscles work. as for a bad back or sore joints from calisthetics, hardly the case. these excercises build endurance and the joints strengthen the working ligaments just like a muscle to take on the new work load it has experienced BUT ligaments dont build nearly as fast as muscle so you shouldnt be trying to go beyong 500 a day. even once you conquer this, like someone already mentioned just take out the rests, this alone is a great way to increase the work load on the body for ANY training of the body.and you will have a back and abs of steel
as base from which to throw even MORE power into your punches. A great idea for a boxer because you should want to lean out as much as possible and get the speed to the utmost of your capabilities
jack_the_rippuh 07-08-2005, 05:59 PM Save your money and just stack up some books and do your push ups.
No need to by all that fancy high-tech masturbation stuff.
streetdreams 07-08-2005, 06:28 PM who mentioned buying anything? if your gym dosent have medicine balls I feel sorry for you.

yeah, i dl the 8 minute ab workout of the net, tho i havent done it inmonths...works well, safe for the back...dont do sit ups, just wrecks the back,
streetdreams 07-09-2005, 02:38 PM do your situps on a roman chair, no wearing of the back and you get a FULL range of movment.
