Who in the last 50 years just had an indescribably aura about them and an incredible ability in their craft.

These are people who just seem to appear out of nowhere. But suddenly grab the imagination of the public.

These people seem otherworldly.

Examples:
Bruce Lee, Bill Hicks, Frida Kahlo.....

Absolutely NOT.

The man is a TERRIBLE director. It is no coincidence that Empire Strikes Back while being the best of the holy Trilogy is was NOT directed by Lucas.

If he is so mystical why did it take 5 godamn years to get Star Wars on DVD?

not as a director - but as a writer. The story of Star Wars is brilliant. not episodes I and II but 4,5,6, changed movie history.

He stole ALL of his ideas from Akira Kurosawa and Flash Gordon. There was nothing ORIGINAL about it.

Kurt Cobain had deep emotion in his music and lyrics and Nirvana's success opened the door for all the good Rock bands in the 90's to come out. Before that Rock was in a slump with all the hair metal bands trying to out do each other with guitar solos. Nevermind brought back Rock to raw emotion and feeling rather than technical show off guitar solos. Nevermind single handedly killed butt rock.

Okay, maybe it is a matter of tastes here. His stuff was pretty original. But the grunge movement was already in full swing when he came on the scene. I know alot of people that Cobain did it for. I don't get it, but maybe I can give you that one.

I can agree you that one. His creativity was amazing. Though his appeal is not universal.

Perhaps an additional criteria should be that this person's accomplishments have universal appeal. Noone would doubt it.

ok what about this musician: Dr. Dre

Again, you can't say he has universal appeal.

I would say Johnny Cash. I hate country music, but LOVE Johnny Cash. His lyrics were amazing and rebellious.

Lets put it this way, there are millions of Southern people who listen to Johnny Cash who doesn't realize that just about every one of his songs attacks the southern way of life.

I would have to disagree with you on that one. I think Dr.Dre's production on Rap records does have universal appeal,,,,and record sales are the proof.

No Dr Dres music DOES NOT have universal appeal. Been to many parts of the world where they dont even sell a Dr Dre record.
I bet more people know about Snoop than Dre, although i do not like either.
But one song "Still Dre" was OK.

ok I see your point on that--didnt take into account that in some parts of Europe that they dont even know who Dr. Dre is---but Dre produces a lot of the top Rap Artist including Eminem,Snoop Dogg, NWA---so he is a Rap pioneer. But if we are gonna talk universal appeal than Lukanli you must take Bill Hicks off that list because he was more underground and sub culture than universal appeal.

Research shows that Eminem is THE most popular rapper since Tupac.
We are talking world wide here.

Yes but in other parts of the world including the USA, you mention his name and they are like "who's Bill Hicks". So no, we disagree on Bill Hicks. Ok here's another one: James Cameron

I don't know anyone who listens to Bill Hicks nowadays is amazed by his words.

Robin Williams and many other comedians borrow his material routinely.

I am sorry, didn't mean to frighten you. He is still very much alive. I said 'was' because I was thinking about his early work back in the late 90s. My mind was in the past tense. He remains extremely creative.

Who in the world is Bill Hicks? Anyway here's a few..... Dalai Llama and 2pac, and don't you guys mean mythical? Goin' back to 2Pac, yeah Eminem is more popular worldwide, but I' ve had a chance to travel the world and believe me when people that don't even listen to hip - hop talk about Pac it's in a totally different level as compared to Eminem.

Whenever I listen to It Taken a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back or Fear of a Black Planet by PE I feel like I'm listening to something that's absolutely timeless, that people will be studying thousands of years from now the way people study Greek drama today. Maybe that's just me  .
