View Full Version : Fight Night: Round 2
Marjoh 12-07-2004, 02:58 PM What's up guys. Head over to IGN (http://sports.ign.com/articles/571/571467p1.html) for a preview and interview on the new installment of Fight Night. It seems like they have been listening to the fans a little. They have added new features such as Haymaker, Cut Man, clinching, and you can now go up or down weights division (can you imagine DLH in the middleweight and get beat up only to go back down?). They also added more fighters in the rooster such the PacMan, Corrales, Hatton, and more (though I'm not sure about Showtime fighters).
ComeHonorChest 12-08-2004, 05:37 AM forget those new names the better ones are floyd and cotto, 2 players everyone wants to play as, and they also added juan lazcano, i really wanted jose luis castillo
Nick1998 12-08-2004, 09:43 PM Yea I think the should give us more of a selection of fighters rather than the other features they are trying to update. Juan Lazcano is defintly a nice addition to the game
jpboxer3 12-08-2004, 09:54 PM Does FN Rd2 have Glen Johnson?
borikua 12-08-2004, 09:55 PM They added Cotto???
Nick1998 12-08-2004, 10:27 PM Yea, they have cotto and I dont think they have glen
jpboxer3 12-08-2004, 10:33 PM Yea, they have cotto and I dont think they have glen
That's no surprise to me really. They had Featherweights like Derrick Gainer and Kevin Kelly in FN04 but no Pacman,Chi,Harrison etc.
MlLkMan 12-08-2004, 11:24 PM Cant wait to play as PACMAN.
ComeHonorChest 12-08-2004, 11:46 PM i think floyd is going to rule online, than the created boxers, but i bet everyone is going to use him unless they get tyson in there
Hunna 12-09-2004, 07:35 AM ding ding fight! fite nite tha bomb, but what happened to Kosta TSZYU?! he aint in the game...
The Fix 12-09-2004, 06:12 PM does anyone know if cory spinks, zab judah, hasim rahman, and john ruiz are in the game?

ComeHonorChest 12-09-2004, 08:36 PM because theres way better boxers than lazcano.he doesnt have any appeal anyway.zab judah should be in it.

The Fix 12-13-2004, 07:53 PM i really want kosta zoo and zab judah in this game. as well has spinks because there are so many matches that wont happen in real that could be made in a game. my major hope is that zab is in this one cause i think it would be fun to play as him
is it online? i cant wait for this game
ComeHonorChest 12-16-2004, 12:42 AM yeah its online for PS2 and xbox but to bad the gamecube owners have online

ComeHonorChest 12-19-2004, 12:08 AM o ok, i wouldnt mind the points
i hope they make a throw in the towel option that the players can use and the computer can use like if theyre fighter is almost dieing in there but the ref hasnt called it, so they must quit for the fighters health or sumtin like that

yeah i doubt that, remember guys, last year was the first time they made a boxing game (EAcanda) they picked something up from nothing, thats why i didnt complain about it, but this year they heard all of our ideas and tried to put them in, so their going in the right way, but having the towel throw should be in career mode, if its a big mismatch and ur boxer is getting hurt throw the towel, so the injuries wouldnt go to ur next fight or gt injured and have to be lay off

.::|ULTIMATE|::. 12-23-2004, 03:05 AM i only got 2 questions...
Will JCC be in it and will we be able to play it on XBOX Live!
ComeHonorChest 12-23-2004, 03:06 AM i only got 2 questions...

hasnt been confirmed and yes
.::|ULTIMATE|::. 12-23-2004, 03:19 AM hasnt been confirmed and yes
weak, JCC shoulda been in the first one.
ComeHonorChest 12-23-2004, 03:22 AM weak, JCC shoulda been in the first one.
i remember JCC was in KO kings 2001 i havent played that game but they also had Ike Quartey
Raekwon 12-23-2004, 05:39 AM lol in fight night 2004 i created so many boxers myself i think i added, tszyu, hatton, mayweather, jcc, tyson probs a few others i cant remember atm lol, took my quite a while 2 get stats to roughly what they should be then i went and deleted them all by accident
oh well hopefully i wont have 2 do this on the new one would like to see jcc in there tho also tszyu not sure if he been confirmed yet
ComeHonorChest 12-23-2004, 05:42 AM as much as i would like JCC in the game i want the curret boxers that are still fighting and havent retired
.::|ULTIMATE|::. 12-23-2004, 06:06 AM as much as i would like JCC in the game i want the curret boxers that are still fighting and havent retired
But if they are gonna have legends in the game JCC can not be forgotten though.
ComeHonorChest 12-23-2004, 06:07 AM But if they are gonna have legends in the game JCC can not be forgotten though.
maybe JCC doesnt want to be in the game
Supafly25 12-23-2004, 08:01 AM GS: Can you give us the lineup? If not, can you give us a hint as to how successful the team was in addressing some of the more noticeable absences in Fight Night 2004, like De la Hoya and Vargas?
KT: I obviously have the utmost respect for both Oscar de la Hoya and Fernando Vargas. But they're not fighting very much currently, so we decided to add boxers who are fighting more regularly and are more up-and-comers.
What a fukin bull shit answer. Obviously ODLH is asking for to much money or doesnt want to be in the game cuz they would jump at the opportunity to sigh him if it arose.
knuckz 12-23-2004, 01:27 PM Hopefuly they add legend boxers to this one.

hagler,hearns,and chavez
hagler,hearns,and chavez
oh ya i forgot about them durr
Sweat 12-24-2004, 12:38 AM I wish they change the knockdowns because in FN2004, the knokdowns were not realistic.
i hope the jab is more of a jab and that there are more styles and stances and such
tnf1400 12-24-2004, 04:17 PM i hope there is more heavyweights on the new one. i would realy like rahman to be on the game.
ComeHonorChest 12-25-2004, 03:51 AM i still wonder who they took out, hope it was lamotta and liston and replaced liston with rahman and lamotta with sturm
i still wonder who they took out, hope it was lamotta and liston and replaced liston with rahman and lamotta with sturm
i dont really mind liston being in the game but it would be better to have a more up to date fighter instead of him, but la motta TAKE HIM OUT i dont like him in the game , i dont like how he wears the same shorts as marciano, but i dont like sturm neither....i say replace lamotta with not dlh..ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm how about my CAB of ludacris :) lol i geuss replace him wit sturm lol
WidowTaker40 12-26-2004, 11:21 PM They need to improve the gameplay mechanics by taking out the phony ragdoll physics engine and also by introducing unique stances and punching mechanisms. I bought FightNight 2004 and stopped playing it after 3 months because the gameplay was SO homogenous. They need to vary the gameplay in order for it to have replay value.

yeah this year, you can have all the fights u want in career mode while changing divisions
SweetScience 12-26-2004, 11:38 PM like what legends could they add that they dont already have??
They MUST have, Pryor, Hagler, Hearns, Whitaker, Chavez, Arguello, and PLEASE Sal Sanchez!!!!
ComeHonorChest 12-26-2004, 11:40 PM They MUST have, Pryor, Hagler, Hearns, Whitaker, Chavez, Arguello, and PLEASE Sal Sanchez!!!!
dont remember if it was pryor or arguello that sued EA for having him on the game with out his not knowing, so i highly doubt their going to want him in the game when he sued them
SweetScience 12-26-2004, 11:54 PM What would be nice is put the current top fighters from each division and add legends in each division as well. They should start from 118 pounds to heavyweight. The most popular fighters should apply only.
The fantasy matchups that will always talk about can come true via the Fight Night game. I wouldnt mind knocking Marquez the **** out with Zarate.
boxer2k5 12-27-2004, 05:10 PM i jsut want fighters to have their own styles and not have everyone share between 3 different stkes
i want it to be mroe varied like in victorious boxers 2

the reason people dont want legends is cuz they add them to career mode and people dont want them there, i dont want to jump in a time machine after to fighting toney to go fight marcano and come to fight jones jr and jump in the time machine again to fight marciano, the career mode should only have current boxers of 3day or guys that just retired no more than 2 years

I agree, I can't stand that in Fight Night 2004
It's annoying, you fight Holyfield, then next fight is Frazier
Johnny_Rocket 01-01-2005, 02:26 PM Hopefully the legends will only be playable in exhibition mode. Be cool too if you had to unlock them through career mode.
WidowTaker40 01-01-2005, 04:04 PM They need to fix the archaic gameplay mechanics if they are going to improve the game. I doubt it as FIGHT NIGHT 2004 sold VERY well and it would not be wise to toy with something that is not broke, marketing wise at least.

EA's boxing sequel will have you seeing stars.
By Jeremy Dunham
January 12, 2005 - There's no doubt that anxious videogame boxing fans read our in-depth hands-on piece for EA Sports Fight Night Round 2 yesterday, but there's one thing they didn't read -- the game's expected roster. And while it's true that we could have included that information in yesterday's preview, holding off for another day ensured that it gave us an excuse to talk about it for the second day in a row -- because it looks to be just that awesome.
The final roster is expected to boast a total of 38 licensed fighters (including at least one secret character), but Executive Producer Kudo Tsunoda only clued us in on 35 of them (the remaining three are expected to be announced at a later date). Tsunoda also confirmed that last year's Heavyweight Champ, Lennox Lewis is no longer in the game, nor is Middleweight comeback king Felix Trinidad. Everyone else from last season, however, is back in full effect and joined by several new faces not previously available. Listed below are the first 35 pugilists that have been confirmed to be in the game:
# Antonio Tarver (22-3, 18 KO's)
# Arturo Gatti (38-6, 29 KO's)
# Bernard Hopkins (45-2-1, 32 KO's)

January 12, 2005 - Fight Night Round 2 has taken IGN by storm, sucking all free time, and most of the time we're supposed to be working, into the PS2 ring. But there are a lot of questions still out there about the roster, fat fighters, and Big Tigger, so IGN Sports is here to set the record straight, Fact or Fiction style.
Fact or Fiction: Mike Tyson is in the game.
Fiction. This is one of the biggest rumors circulating around the Web right now, but it's just not true. Iron Mike is not in Fight Night Round 2, although there are some great new fighters in the game including "Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather, Diego Corrales, and Miguel Cotto. Unfortunately, one boxer has also left the lineup as Lennox Lewis has decided to hang up the virtual gloves as well, opting out of Round 2.
Fact or Fiction: You can change weight classes throughout career mode.
Fact. And you want to talk about extreme makeovers, you haven't seen anything until you make Roy Jones Jr. so fat he looks like Butterbean's brother from another mother. You can train to make fat guys skinny, skinny guys fat, hit the weight room to bulk up for more power. No boxing game has ever given you so many options in terms of molding you fighter like he's your personal clay. You can even create yourself in the game and see what you look like if you super sized every meal. Frightening.
Fact or Fiction: The Cut Man mini-game is a waste of time.
Fiction. In fact, the Cut Man mini-game between rounds might just be the coolest new feature in the game. You have 30 seconds to gouge your fighter with cut swabs and reduce the swelling in order to manage the damage because the worse your swelling gets on one side of your face, the more difficult it is to defend that side of your body. The better the cut man you buy in your career, the longer you'll be able to last without the ref calling for a TKO. This is a brutal, bloody game, and you see some of that during gameplay, but when there's a close-up of your fighter, blood spewing out of his nose, sweat actually dripping down his forehead as you apply pressure to his eye, you really feel for the poor guy and what type of punishment you've put him through. If you think James Toney was ugly before, just wait until you get a close-up of his mug after eight rounds with Ali.
Fact or Fiction: Round 2 features double the amount of polygons per fighter than last year's game.
Fact. Double the polygons, double the renders, and thanks to a new render mapping technique, the artists were able to place pictures of the fighters right onto their models to make some of the most realistic-looking boxers to date. The developers were even able to mo-cap facial animations for the first time in the series, so you'll really see the pain of every punch. Other graphical updates include animated tassels on both the trunks and shoes, not to mention the animated, or should I say bouncing breateseses of the girls who come down to the ring with you. Funny thing is, even the ring girls effect gameplay as they might be so hot, they'll psyche your fighter up to punch better.
Fact or Fiction: If you want to throw fast combos, you need to use the buttons, not the analog punching.
Fiction. I know last year, when it came down to dropping an opponent with blistering speed, most resorted back to the buttons. But this year, if you want to pummel your opponent, analog punching is the only way to go. They really made the control feel as smooth as you could've hoped, as now you can quickly throw rights and lefts by flicking the stick back and forth, and the boxer responds much quicker than last year. On top of that, there is also the addition of haymaker punches, as you can load up a hook and then go for a quick knockout by unleashing a powerful punch on your opponent's already bloody eye. Watch out, though, because while you're loading your punch up, you're more susceptible to getting clobbered yourself.
Fact or Fiction: We miss Big Tigger.
No response needed.
Fact or Fiction: Being able to move and punch, move and block, has completely changed the game.
Fact. And it's a change for the good. Now if you're in trouble, you can actually block while stepping away from a punch, enabling you to be more than just another Slam Man when you're in the middle of getting pummeled. On offense, you can now take advantage of your fighter's speed by using the old stick and move technique. Too often last year, the fast fighter was simply outmatched by the powerful puncher, but now the odds are a lot more even. Fight like the man you're controlling and you'll have a big advantage, a realistic touch that has been needed for years.
Fact or Fiction: You can not only win professional belts, but amateur titles as well.
Fact. Career mode is night and day better than Round 1, from the length of the career and slowed down metabolism to the ability to mold your created fighter to as lean and mean as you'd like, not to mention the amateur belts.
Fact or Fiction: There aren't any other new game modes.
Fiction. Hard hits mode puts two fighters in the ring with no clock and the round doesn't end until someone gets knocked down. 15 rounds of knockdowns can really put the ugly on even the best looking fighters. Even Ali won't be talking about how pretty he is after this one.
That's all for now. Check back to IGN Sports for the latest on Fight Night Round 2, a game that looks like even more of a second round knockout than Canibus ever dreamed.

looks like it's goin to be a hell of a game.when does it come out again?
Hey fellas! I run a site called Madden Nation and we recently launched a branch to our site called www.fightnightnation.com We have a lot of discussion going on about the game and are a pretty good source of information as well.
We typically get the EA Sports games anywhere from a couple of days to a week before they come out, and will be answering questions about Fight Night: Round 2 at that time. Depending on what day of the week we receive the game we may be able to preview it on our internet radio show and answer questions live on the air. I'll let you know when I have more info or if I hear anything new about the game. :)

dustymoo 01-14-2005, 01:39 PM It could do without Big Tigger like? Or that stupid 'arm twizzy move' that brings 'Street Fighter' into an otherwise realistic game?
Atwa_66 01-15-2005, 12:07 AM I wish they change the knockdowns because in FN2004, the knokdowns were not realistic.
It is way to easy to knock a fighter down and even out
Half of my Knockouts are in the first 3 rounds
FN2005 should be awesome, can't wait

rapidrio 01-20-2005, 11:28 PM What's up guys.
I cant wait for this game to drop! I just hope they get rid of big tigger...that was the only down fall in 2004! The screenshots look HOT!

The Golden Boy 01-22-2005, 02:23 AM Pac man is in the game and the annoucer is Joe Tesitore from FNF. Thank god Big Tig is gone.
Johnny_Rocket 01-22-2005, 11:23 AM Hopefully it is harder to get up from knockdowns in this game. Having to knock someone down 8 times to win a fight is ridiculous. I once got knocked down 24 times in a fight before a couldnt get up anymore. Matching up the ea circles is way to easy.

Raekwon 01-24-2005, 09:02 AM lol what top said, u cant say it sucks when u havnt played it, they making the gfx better, they puttin more boxers in and they are revising the way you get up, i cant see it being any worse than the first, only better, "the visual presentation was more decent?" they gfx are only gonna get better so why would it be better in the old one?
andreyd 01-24-2005, 11:24 AM it was said about the style,it is up to the personal taste, i personally do not like screens from round 2, they are childish,
thanks
andreyd 01-24-2005, 11:55 AM and why do you think 1st person view is missing.take for example a knockout kings web boxing from the same ea sports. its quite fun and involving.

good list and iam not going to complain because ea is the only company making an effort and trying to put together a good game with a solid roster. they do have some nice additions like cotto and pbf but some key losses as well in tito and LL

jack_the_rippuh 01-27-2005, 12:13 AM I hope they don't make Ray Leonard, Ray Robinson, Muhammad Ali, etc. such bitches in that game like they did in the Fight Night 2004..
All those bitches do is move...you can't KO their ass until like the 5 or 6th round..

spinksjinx 01-29-2005, 12:20 PM Which copy is everyone picking up?
Im still divided.
Ps2-Free online play, but may be a bit shaky with bugs and decent controls.
Xbox-On Live, but very stable and smooth no lag but comes with a fee and the chance to possibly download new upgrades like arenas, attire and such but I highly doubt the possibility to download extra fighters, Controls for Defense are HORRID!
Gamecube-No online play, but super-punchout and the unlockable bogus Mac in the game, Pretty good controls, the C-stick would be great for fight night. I imagine the controls will be best for the cube (try knockout kings 2003)
Overall the graphics should be about the same since they are all direct ports and each system could handle that.
I was sold on the cube version once I found out super-punch out and lil mac was going to be in it, and then I found out it was "challenger" from super-punch out and not the original so I am leaning against it.
It's either going to be Xbox or Gamecube, still unsure.
How about everyone else?
ComeHonorChest 01-29-2005, 06:26 PM PS2 ... only one i can
xbox..
I only have a xbox ^^;
The Fix 01-30-2005, 12:12 AM i have x box and ps2 but iam getting it for ps2 because i feel the control provides more comfort for me
The Italian Stallion 01-30-2005, 12:42 AM I'm getting it for PS2. You know what would be cool, if we had a Boxing Scene competion online with PS2 Fight Night: Round 2. We could crown the BSFN(Boxing Scene Fight Night) Champion.
Does anybody know the final roster?
In Fight Night 2004 you can unlock Big Tiggerm but it would be cool if you could unlock "The Italian Stallion" Rocky Balboa
jedihillis 01-31-2005, 05:16 PM I'll be getting this one for Ps2. I used to have an Xbox, but i recently gave it away. It sucks they don't have the Klitchco bro's in it.

lol... being a manny fan, i really found his excuse a little lame, too shallow for a fighter who has fought 44 fights. not being able to buy good pair of socks was just a bad, very bad excuse... but FYI: his socks are darlington, hehe...
dafrza3 02-02-2005, 10:58 AM I heard only 38 boxers. But more control on the creativity. Needless to say i got mine on reserve already! I would loveee to see a PSP version that would be sweet with wireless multiplayer either psp to psp or over the wireless internet.

spinksjinx 02-02-2005, 08:21 PM What I didnt like about Fight Night 2004 was the fact it was based on heavy power shots, I hate that shit. The other day, I was playing and I landed a 5 punch combo on a guy and he hits me with a left hook and the commentator recognizes that and that is the only big thing he did in the whole round and he won the round, because it was closing 10 seconds. I HATE THAT SHIT!
Also I hate the f'n controls on the game, it is damn near possible to line up a gameplan and have defense, the blocking buttons are so awkward it is horrible this needs to be changed.

I have tried them all, It's irritating all to hell that I cant block while moving and this really hurts a fighter who is low on power and high on speed. I know it has been fixed in round 2 or so they say, but it could still play a little flunky. Also having KO meters makes me think it might be to arcadish as well.

I dont think they did, I seen few entrances and they were the same...However I think on the xbox version on xbox live their is the possibility (not definite) to download extra stuff.
