I can't blame him for taking that. Fighting Marine 06-01-2010, 03:26 AM The deal is reportedly worth $6 million over 4 years. I can't blame him for taking that. yeah just heard it on 10...... Thats a ****load of cash......well I guess its ok.... this is the NRL's fault.......get rid of the salary cap Dan... 06-01-2010, 03:42 AM yeah just heard it on 10...... Thats a ****load of cash......well I guess its ok.... this is the NRL's fault.......get rid of the salary cap I don't think it would have made a difference to be honest. His salary is supposedly $1.5 million a year for 4 years. No NRL club generates the kind of revenue it would take to pay that kind of salary. No worries, it is only one player. If the AFL is prepared to pay these guys well above what their best players are earning that is their decision. Nobody gives a **** about AFL where I live......They mock this joke of a sport.... This was a stupid decision by the AFL....I see very little similarities between AFL and League.... Israel is a World Class Athlete and am sure he will turn into a decent player but nothing more.... $6 million on 1 player who has never played an AFL game in his life. How ****ing stupid. brently1979 06-01-2010, 04:42 AM **** him, but I would totally follow the cash as well, but he could be dud player in the AFL, I actually hope he is in a way to teach them a lesson. I see this as a statement from the AFL, I'm sure they could spend that money better imo, buying players from other clubs or developing juniors. If he was going to Union, different story, but AFL is a big jump. boxing_great 06-01-2010, 04:44 AM This GWS club is going to fail soo bad.... If any other NRL player was given the chance you would think they would take it too. The person who is a **** head is Demetriou and he thinks he can get his money back from just membership and shirt sales etc. I hope it fails on them. I cant stand the way the AFL bully Australian football and the Rugby around. While I agree Demetriou is a wanker If Rugby League had a strong leader like him then perhaps it would not find itself in it's current predicament. The thing is both the Gold Coast & Western Sydney teams will be fully supported so that eventually they will take hold. The AFL are not looking short term here. People said Sydney & Brisbane would fail too and both those clubs are strong. The AFL know the numbers in the beginning will be crap. Patience and money are 2 things they have plenty of. Rugby League should have had the same long term vision twenty or thirty years ago. You can't relocate or start a new team in a new location & expect it to thrive. League should already have teams in W.A & S.A at the very least. But unfortunately expansion is not part of their vocabulary. The tops of their hands have been warm for years because they sit on em all the time. League is a fantastic game, it's just not being run anywhere near as well as it deserves. minasyan 06-02-2010, 09:32 AM I agree ....................... ??? 06-02-2010, 03:33 PM Good god I hope not. Ryan Cross has played for the Wallabies FFS. The Weebler II 06-02-2010, 07:43 PM There is a long list of flops from Rugby League over the years but Karmicheel Hunt and SBW have made the transition well and will end up playing Rugby Union in the longer term, undoubtedly very talented guys. Given their success it's likely a lot more RL stars to be signed to French clubs. The Wallabies depth is pretty poor and the player base for Union in Australia is pretty small, I think he got the nod after an injury to Mortlock. Cross was ok to good going forward but his defence was horrible. Oz actually do very well with the small numbers they have and there might well be a re-surgence in the game with the NSW Waratahs and Queensland Reds going well and the Melbourne Rebels starting up. Only the class backs would have any chance of making it in the AFL. Big forwards just wont have the motor. Hayne is the only NSW back that fits that bill. QLD is just blessed with more classy backs. There is also a rumour down here that Essendon is talking to Inglis. I don't begrudge Israel his decision. Six million dollars sets you up for life. Players are going to leave. It happens. At the end of the day I think the NRL is talent-rich enough to cover the loss of a couple of players a season. We cried and wept when Tuqiri and the like went off to Union, a couple of seasons later you've got another 3-4 players popping up in his place (a couple more seasons and he's back in the NRL) League can't afford to compete with rival codes. Only three clubs turned a profit last year, so it's hardly fair to just say bump up the salary club. Just something us league fans have to deal with. Every time one of these high profile players leaves its "the world is over, death of the game" type **** for a few weeks. Then they actually leave, others take their place and everyone forgets. I also agree with that, and I'm not saying it is ideal, but the bottom line is that if these other codes are going to come along with offers of well over $1 million a year for these guys then we just cannot compete. I'm saying the game will be fine without some of these guys, and it will, as has been proven time and time again over the past decade. Fighting Marine 06-09-2010, 12:00 AM Spot on mate. Even when they are leaving mid-contract the club will typically grant players an early release and very rarely does the club receive any compensation whatsoever. ??? 06-09-2010, 06:50 PM The sad thing is if he somehow does exceptionally well in AFL, he'll probably stay there for the rest of his career. But I'm sure there'll be plenty of highlights across all the media outlets. |
