I hear that Alex Lepai (sp?) looks decent for a heavyweight brently1979 05-26-2010, 11:43 PM no one really comes to mind, I reminder seeing someone when I was at the Jones vs Green fight, kid in the lighter weights he looked pretty well schooled. I don't really watch a lot of the local stuff anymore. Dan... 05-26-2010, 11:43 PM Lenny Zappa and Michael Bolling are two of the better prospects going around at the moment. Leapai is decent, his stamina is very poor though. He can throw a hell of punch. brently1979 05-26-2010, 11:49 PM I hope lenny can come thru and be a contender Dan... 05-26-2010, 11:56 PM I hope lenny can come thru and be a contender Same. Still far from sold on him though. I don't really watch a lot of the local stuff anymore. You're probably thinking of Will Tomlinson. He looked great on the Green/Jones undercard, though his last 2 fights since then have been somewhat lacklustre. The opponents he faced certainly didn't help. Other prospects we might be hearing more of in the future: Jr talipeau, King Davidson, Ranee Ganoy, Les Sherrington, Wale Omotoso, Mick Bolling and Sam Colomban. Bolling has a fight coming up in South Efrica for the IBO title at 168. He's facing one of their undefeated prospects. It's listed on boxrec. brently1979 05-27-2010, 02:34 AM You're probably thinking of Will Tomlinson. Yeah he was on the Vic undercard, he didn't look as good there. I hope he can get it together. Problem is out here is sparring, hard to get good sparring. I remember I used to have to spar light ****in heavies when I was around 140-147. Sure it helps when you get in with guys the same weight, but **** it made for touch sparring if they landed flush. I'll be back 05-27-2010, 03:42 AM You're probably thinking of Will Tomlinson. He looked great on the Green/Jones undercard, though his last 2 fights since then have been somewhat lacklustre. Bolling looked great beating Victor and I think will inprove as time goes on....I think hes our best SMW (Is Bika still alive?) Ranee fights the most amount of can's for a guy with his skill...what are they doing with him. Les has some solid skills but tends to slap with his punches...however hes great on the focus pads. Omotosa maybe our best prospect...footwork, speed, power and stamina are all fantastic....a few more good fights and hes ready for a shot Colomban looked great last time out against Phil...nice set of punches and good reach...good power as well. Alex Leapai is looking dangerous and is working hard on fitness and with Sol coming up in 4 weeks for sparring should see Alex in the best shape of his life. Looking forward to seeing JR beat Hamden next week. Lenny Zappa and Will Tomlinson are great prospects however Zappa is past the prospect stage now IMO. How about Moysten #$%$#? forgot his last name. Smashed the guy that stopped Carl Web. Ko round 1. Smashed the guy that stopped Carl Web. Ko round 1. Mostyn Niemann. He looked very good on debut. He'll add some much needed depth to some of our heavier divisions, I think they said he'd be campaigning at Cruiser. I tend to agree that Zappa isn't a prospect anymore. He's hardly a contender though either, at least he has plenty of time to improve. cace 05-27-2010, 10:45 PM serge yannick is still one to look out for i think, he's only loss was a decision to bolling in what i have read was a fairly close fight forsyth looks good from what i seen fletcher looks good and is going to be progressed fairly quickly from all reports Philfy 05-27-2010, 10:54 PM serge yannick is still one to look out for i think, he's only loss was a decision to bolling in what i have read was a fairly close fight forsyth looks good from what i seen fletcher looks good and is going to be progressed fairly quickly from all reports Is Fletcher still injured? I heard he had shoulder problems. cace 05-27-2010, 10:58 PM Is Fletcher still injured? I heard he had shoulder problems. i dunno, hopefully not to serious if he is. he looked like he was going to be fun to watch from what i've seen of him ColWallace 05-28-2010, 09:43 AM **** all really. Seems to me the best summation of Australian boxing prospects. Tomlinson is by far the best currently. I like the guy. He might be another Katsidis. Until he fights someone who fights back.......... I'll be back 05-28-2010, 05:33 PM **** all really. Seems to me the best summation of Australian boxing prospects. Tomlinson is by far the best currently. I like the guy. He might be another Katsidis. Until he fights someone who fights back.......... Lenny Zappa and Wild Will spar all the time mate....if you see them go you would give Zappa huge wraps. skyler 05-29-2010, 01:37 AM Yeah he was on the Vic undercard, he didn't look as good there. Sure it helps when you get in with guys the same weight, but **** it made for touch sparring if they landed flush. Yeah man.. im the smallest guy at my gym at 54kg the closest next to me is around 65kg and then 70kg... so im always sparring the bigger guys and theres only 5 other amateur fighters so you take what you can get. One more round 05-29-2010, 05:37 AM Mostyn Niemann. He looked very good on debut. He'll add some much needed depth to some of our heavier divisions, I think they said he'd be campaigning at Cruiser. I tend to agree that Zappa isn't a prospect anymore. He's hardly a contender though either, at least he has plenty of time to improve. Mostyn Niemann is a really good fighter. I been watching him as an amateur and ****, he is really good and he will be a top fighter. If you saw some of the fighters going around in the ams, you would be hopeful for Aussie boxing. There is some really good amateurs around at the moment. Problem is, most are focused on Olympics etc. The Muss 06-08-2010, 11:50 AM Lenny Zapp stands out for me at the moment, although I'm not entirely sold on his ability to reach the very top. Lance Gostelow is another one with pretty decent potential IMO. Philfy 06-22-2010, 01:24 AM For those that are interested: Michael Bolling had a fight on the w/e against Isaac Chilemba in South Africa. Unfortunately he came up short. Malawi boxer Isaac Chilemba won the vacant IBO super middleweight boxing world title with a unanimous twelve round points decision win over Australian Michael Bolling on Saturday night 19 June at Emperor’s Palace in Kempton Park, Gauteng, South Africa. 23 year-old “Golden Boy” Chilemba 15-1 (8) from Johannesburg impressively handled the southpaw challenge of the visiting 25 year-old Bolling 12-1 (10). Judges scored the fight unanimously for Chilemba 119-109, 119-109 and 119-108. http://www.secondsout.com.au/australian-news/australian-news/chilemba-defeats-bolling-to-win-ibo-super-middleweight-world-title?crossdomain=success brently1979 06-22-2010, 04:39 AM Yeah man.. im the smallest guy at my gym at 54kg the closest next to me is around 65kg and then 70kg... so im always sparring the bigger guys and theres only 5 other amateur fighters so you take what you can get. yeah, you do mate, but it will help you down the long road, but what I noticed when I went up against guys my own weight was the speed difference, not that I was slower, I just got used to landing 4-5 punches and pulling out without being tagged, where is when I was up against guys my own weight I had to adjust to the speed difference and could only land about 2-3 punches before getting tagged. It's a fine line a mixture of both is ideal. The Muss 06-22-2010, 09:15 AM Probably one of the best that hasn't got a mention yet... Fred Mundraby. ColWallace 06-23-2010, 03:28 AM Has anyone seen Australian featherweight champ Joel Brunker in action? Joel went to my highschool and I used to play basketball against his brother at lunchtimes... 15 years ago now. He defended his title for the final time last week. Challenging for the WBC youth title later this year. Hope he goes well. brently1979 06-23-2010, 04:24 AM Has anyone seen Australian featherweight champ Joel Brunker in action? Welcome back sir. infestacide 06-28-2010, 06:05 PM Welcome back sir. hey champ... i was hoping most of the dickheads had left by now... how is it looking? Philfy 06-28-2010, 10:24 PM King Davidson fighting tonight in Japan against Charlie Ota. Good Luck to him. The Realist 06-28-2010, 11:06 PM Well, I got a mate who is still an amateur at LHW but will turn pro depending on whether he makes it into the Commonwealth Games. He is one fight away from selection against Brendan Scully whom he dominated a couple of months ago. If not, then he turns pro earlier. He has awesome speed and power, which has resulted in him not being able to get fights. I know he'll be successful at the pros. His only problem is he's a little too street for his own good, which is why I try to avoid going anywhere with him lol. So Keep a look out. The Realist 07-05-2010, 10:21 PM He will now represent Australia at the commonwealth games. If anyone is interested, I can post some of his fights. |
