Many thought Tarver won the first fight. There's no way Jones was favored like Tyson over Douglas. borikua 12-06-2004, 07:52 PM I disagree with Jones-Tarver 2. Many thought Tarver won the first fight. There's no way Jones was favored like Tyson over Douglas. But few ppl expected to end by a brutal ko.. Mr. Violence 12-06-2004, 07:53 PM Yes it was Tyson Vs. Douglas. the fight was 42-1 odds there have never been odds that big for a heavyweight title fight before or since. Dark Destroyer 12-06-2004, 07:58 PM That was definatly a huge upset in the history books but personally that won't be every individuals biggest upset. Hmmmm not sure what my personal one is  The Fix 12-06-2004, 08:03 PM my biggest upset is leon spinks beating ali after only fighting 7 fights  who gets a title shot with a record of 6-0-1. Dark Destroyer 12-06-2004, 08:05 PM my biggest upset is leon spinks beating ali after only fighting 7 fights  who gets a title shot with a record of 6-0-1. Yeah thats definatly a huge upset in boxing history. I loved watching Ali fight, the end of his career was so sad to see. The Fix 12-06-2004, 08:09 PM Yeah thats definatly a huge upset in boxing history. I loved watching Ali fight, the end of his career was so sad to see. i know what you mean the larry holmes fight is hard to watch.to me it was like the glen johnson-roy jones fight Dark Destroyer 12-06-2004, 08:11 PM i know what you mean the larry holmes fight is hard to watch.to me it was like the glen johnson-roy jones fight The Larry fight was painful, Ali was making out he had it under control but he was taking a horrible beating, perhaps the worst i have seen in boxing history because it breaks my heart to see that fight. Glens KO of Roy is a most shocking recent upset of mine too. Roy was a great fighter trinidadpr87 12-06-2004, 08:20 PM my biggest upset is leon spinks beating ali after only fighting 7 fights  who gets a title shot with a record of 6-0-1. look at veeraphol sahaprom. Atwa_66 12-06-2004, 09:30 PM Yes it was Tyson Vs. Douglas. the fight was 42-1 odds there have never been odds that big for a heavyweight title fight before or since. What an unbeleviable KO too on Douglas' part. Commentator on the Knockout: "This makes Cinderella sound like a sad, sad story." trephination 12-06-2004, 09:37 PM Gotta Go With Tyson Vs. Douglas. Still Shocks Me When I Watch It Today bchynn 12-06-2004, 10:05 PM Yep, Tyson-Douglas fight. This thread should be redirected into asking what the second biggest upset in boxing history is. I cannot see an upset bigger than that mentioned. PBDS 12-06-2004, 10:07 PM What do you think was the biggest upset in Boxing History? I think James Douglas vs Mike Tyson, 1990 in Tokyo :D ....Tyson/Douglas for sure. I remember that fight like it was yesterday. I happened to be over my parents house watching it with my little brother and a few of my friends. My Dad didn't even stay up to watch it and went to bed because he thought Tyson would have another easy night. I went and woke him up in the second round and told him he was about to miss something special. He thought I was full of **** but he ended up coming to watch the fight while shaking his head the whole time. And the rest is history. Mr. Violence 12-06-2004, 10:11 PM you cant beat the 42-1 odds on Tyson Vs. Douglas. trinidadpr87 12-06-2004, 10:14 PM you cant beat the 42-1 odds on Tyson Vs. Douglas. IS THEIR ANY CLOSE. Mr. Violence 12-06-2004, 10:20 PM IS THEIR ANY CLOSE. no i dont think so. i know that ali vs foreman was 7-1 favoring foreman. but nothing like 42-1 Memorex 12-06-2004, 10:31 PM im sad to say tyson vs douglas. it still hurts me to this day Nick1998 12-06-2004, 10:45 PM Gotta be Mike getting KO'd by Buster Mr. Violence 12-06-2004, 10:53 PM looks like its hands down mike vs. buster Great 12-07-2004, 06:20 AM Tyson - Douglas. jabsRstiff 12-07-2004, 06:54 AM No question, Douglas-Tyson (which also happens to be one of y all-time favorite fights). After that, I'd go with Lloyd Honeyghan's beating Donald Curry. Curry was an amazing fighting machine, perched to become the best lb4lber in the world. The untested Honeyghan came over from England & tore him apart. n14061981 12-07-2004, 08:35 AM Williams vs Klitschko :D psychopath 12-07-2004, 08:52 AM my biggest upset is leon spinks beating ali after only fighting 7 fights  who gets a title shot with a record of 6-0-1. What can be a bigger upset than that? ;) Hudson_Hawk 12-07-2004, 09:00 AM i know what you mean the larry holmes fight is hard to watch.to me it was like the glen johnson-roy jones fight So SPINKS became a heavyweight champion on his 8TH FIGHT? I knew for a fact that ALI did lose to Spinks but I'm never aware of Spinks fight record. :D bigdlb12 12-07-2004, 10:33 AM Tyson - Douglas hands down, at the time that Tyson seem to be the SH!+ Buster stops him, but second I would say Taylor vs Chavez jabsRstiff 12-07-2004, 10:37 AM Tyson - Douglas hands down, at the time that Tyson seem to be the SH!+ Buster stops him, but second I would say Taylor vs Chavez ?????? Chavez-Taylor was at just about even odds....& all the experts were split on their picks. An upset wasn't possible ! scap 12-07-2004, 10:46 AM Ok so the biggest upset is easily Tyson/Douglas....Here is a fight that I think about a lot....This fight was certainly an upset but not a super huge upset....I just rememberer how shocked I was when Terry Norris was knocked out very badly by Simon Brown, I was in shock...I knew Norris had been kayoed before by Julian Jackson but I thought that was because he was young....he was a damn good fighter when he came in against Brown and didn't look like he even belonged in the same ring with him....later they fought again and Terry boxed his way to a points victory.... I was never quite the same Terry Norris fan again. bigdlb12 12-07-2004, 10:46 AM I bet Taylor was upset :),but you are right Chavez Taylor couldnt be an upset elveiel 12-07-2004, 10:48 AM I disagree with Jones-Tarver 2. Many thought Tarver won the first fight. There's no way Jones was favored like Tyson over Douglas. I think Tarver vs Jones 1 was a big upset, shame the judges scored it the wrong way!! elveiel 12-07-2004, 10:50 AM Rahman vs Lewis and Sanders vs Klithcko were a big upsets!! Maybe Buster vs Tyson was the biggest!! Atwa_66 12-07-2004, 10:54 AM Rahman vs Lewis and Sanders vs Klithcko were a big upsets!! Maybe Buster vs Tyson was the biggest!! Nope, i stil say douglas vs tyson Mr. Ryan 12-07-2004, 11:57 AM James "Buster" Douglas' 10th round KO of the seemingly invincible Mike Tyson was boxings biggest upset in my opinion. In my lifetime: Hopkins KO10 Trinidad Forrest W12 Mosley Tarver KO2 Jones Jr. Jones KO5 Barrera Holyfield KO11 Tyson J ! 12-07-2004, 12:00 PM theres been thousands but it has to be tyson douglas others right up there as jabs says Honeygun Curry Max Scmeling Joe Louis 1. Kirkland Laing V Duran Lewis Rahman Haye Thomspon last year was a bit of a shocker also. cple 12-07-2004, 12:34 PM Schmeling-Louis I Braddock-Baer Ali-Liston I Ali-Foreman ejk22 12-07-2004, 12:48 PM Moorer vs Foreman, because of Foreman's age and the destruction of Holyfield that Moorer took part in months earlier. Holyfield vs Tyson ranks up there pretty high. SonnyG8R 12-07-2004, 01:08 PM Lots of good ones named. What were the odds of Ali-Liston I? How about Leonard-Hagler? Obviously Douglass-Tyson was a huge upset. I wish I new more about boxing history. I bet there were upsets that are even more shocking than Tyson-Douglass. elveiel 12-07-2004, 03:27 PM Rahman vs Lewis and Sanders vs Klithcko were a big upsets!! Maybe Buster vs Tyson was the biggest!! Nope, i stil say douglas vs tyson Thats what i said, James "Buster" Douglas ;) Boxerdog 12-07-2004, 03:35 PM I bet there were upsets that are even more shocking than Tyson-Douglass. Most boxing historians disagree. Douglas' win is the concensus choice. |
