View Full Version : Tito's ALLEGED(Not Proven) Illegal Handwraps
Mr. Violence 12-06-2004, 02:23 PM I started this thread so both Tito fans and Tito non-fans can both discuss this ALLEGED(alleged-meaining it is not proven) illegal handwraps of Tito,,,and so we can find the truth. I am NOT taking sides on this, only my opinion because nothing is proven. Ok we first heard about Tito ALLEGED illegal handwraps right before he was preparing to fight Hopkins. Hopkins camp claimed that Tito was wrapping his hands wrong in order to get a punching power advantage. So they made Tito re wrap his hands. After that fight a couple of fighters namely: Vargas and Joppy claimed that when they were hit by Tito it felt un natural for a Middleweight to have that power unless helped by the handwraps. Vargas in particular said "It felt like Tyson hit me". Now I myself had done some boxing as a hobby. But I was never a pro or knew the ins and outs of handwrapping. So I can't make a judgement, only opinion. So I want to hear your opinion. Was Hopkins just playing mind games on Tito-and is Vargas and Joppy making excuses for losing......or did Tito really have illegal wraps to increase power. Your thoughts please.
P.S- In my humble opinion I think it was just Hopkins playing mindgames with Tito.
I only brought up this issue again because of what Joppy and Vargas have been saying.
tri4ben2 12-06-2004, 02:32 PM I can't believe how often this gets discussed.
Doesn't there have to be a high-standing person in the state athletic commission watching Tito get his hand wrapped.
I find it hard to believe that he could get his hands wrapped in such a way that he would have an advantage without anybody else knowing.
It is like that time on CSI that the boxer had mercury put in his gloves to make his hands heavier and then he knocked out his opponent and killed him.
Pretty far fetched.
jujitsujn 12-06-2004, 02:35 PM I don't know. Either way, Tito can still crack, but to what level. If Hopkins people say he was taping across the knuckles, and the commision agreed, then that amy be something ponder. It seems funny that none of Tito's punches seemed to affect Hopkins at all and Joppy went down like a ton of bricks. Immeadiatly after the Tito fight, Joppy stated he had never been hit that hard in all his boxing career. That was well before the whole wrapping scandal came about. But I don't know for sure and I'm not sure we will ever know.
Exciterx24 12-06-2004, 02:53 PM This topic is waay overdone and I must say it's a bunch of bull****.

Sir_Jose 12-06-2004, 05:08 PM The commision would'nt have made him rewrap his hands if nothing was wrong simple as that.
borikua 12-06-2004, 05:10 PM The commision would'nt have made him rewrap his hands if nothing was wrong simple as that.

Exciterx24 12-06-2004, 06:06 PM The commision would'nt have made him rewrap his hands if nothing was wrong simple as that.
Although I think it's all bull****, let's think for a moment that his hand wraps were illegal on September 29, 2001. Does that mean that his handwraps were illegal from his debut in 1990 to May, 2001 when he faced Joppy? No ****ing way. The NSAC and NYAC are not going to allow anything illegal, so quit believing all the **** that Vargas and Joppy say to make Trinidad look like a cheater.
ME123 12-06-2004, 06:22 PM Please no more post regarding hand wraps, penis wraps or any other wraps. The guy just hits hard
Atwa_66 12-06-2004, 07:32 PM Wraps or no wraps, tito hits hard
Mr. Violence 12-06-2004, 07:50 PM Please no more post regarding hand wraps, penis wraps or any other wraps. The guy just hits hard
i agree but i only brought it up again cause joppy is running his mouth about tito.
Nick1998 12-06-2004, 10:58 PM I do remember Joppy saying that something didnt feel right when Tito hit him but I dont know if you can really make something out of it

thats what I think. without good evidence joppy shouldnt be making accusations.
bchynn 12-07-2004, 12:37 AM It doesn't make sense for Hopkins to accuse Trinidad of illegal hand wrapping if there weren't some truth to it. If Tito doesn't have his hands illegally wrapped, then I don't see how that sort of "mind game" would be effective.
mic573 12-07-2004, 12:46 AM All I'm going to say on this matter this time is that the NYSAC asked Trinidad Sr. to demonstrate the wrapping of Tito's hands before the Mayorga fight and the handwrapping was approved.

That wouldn't matter much in this case, as the fight with Mayorga occured well after the story broke out about illegal hand wrapping. If Trinidad Sr. used legal hand wrapping techniques for the Mayorga fight, that would mean as much as Barry Bonds testing negative for steroids two years from today.
Hunna 12-07-2004, 07:44 AM If he had illegal hadnwraps or not? a true boxing warrior like Hopkins can still take him down and not have to worry about it. look at Ali, he couldn't see for one round after what Sonny Liston did to his eyes.
trephination 12-07-2004, 07:51 AM Would'nt You Think That A High Profile Fight Like The Delahoya Fight Would Have Exposed Any Wrong Doing By Trinidad. Every Aspect Of that Fight Seemed To Be Under A Microscope At The Time.......How Can Anyone Honestly Think Trinidad Needs Illegal Handwraps To Hurt Someone
cmason 12-07-2004, 08:00 AM i'm no expert on this (i only train for fitness), but is one extra layer of gauze going to turn tito into ernie shavers? as well as a guy from hopkins camp there would have been someone from the ny commision there as well. tito just hits hard and joppy and vargas could'nt handle it.
PRboxingfan 12-07-2004, 08:35 AM First off, this topic is over-discussed and uninformed idiots keep bringing up stupid points that have already been addressed by Hopkins and Bouie Fischer. Both have stated that there was nothing wrong with the way the hands were wrapped and that it was just a plan to take Tito's concentration away as well as to give him less time to warm up in the dressing room before the fight.
The commision would'nt have made him rewrap his hands if nothing was wrong simple as that.
The commision did it, as they have said before, not because of any wrongdoings, but because there was a complaint and they wanted it resolved. They ASKED Tito if he'd mind re-wrapping his hands to avoid any problems and he did.
I do remember Joppy saying that something didnt feel right when Tito hit him but I dont know if you can really make something out of it
You know what didn't feel right? The power Tito brings to the ring.
Now, stop bringing this **** up and learn the facts before you go running your mouths like ignoramusus.
realtim 12-07-2004, 08:49 AM Wraps or no wraps he still wouldnt have ko'd hopkins simple as that.
Mr. Violence 12-07-2004, 12:30 PM the truth is tito can hit. simple as that

Slipx 02-01-2005, 06:40 PM Vargas in particular said "It felt like Tyson hit me".
I bet Tito's confidence went up a notch when he heard that, heh.
as far as the wrapping, maybe he did do it, but I really don't think a handwrap method will win ya the fight
m00ks 02-01-2005, 06:55 PM heres my ignoramous question? How much can handwraps help you with your power? I mean you got big gloves over it...
