View Full Version : After Live Aid here comes Live 8
chito 06-23-2005, 05:14 AM I cant believe 200 million US dollars was earned by Live Aid in 1985! How come there are still so many starving people in Africa, where did the money go? And Bob Geldof, together with Bono of U2, and Richard Curtis are about to relive this act again to put pressure on G-8 leaders starting on July 2 this year. These free concerts are good for a lot of rock fans around the world and people will see a lot of big names like Paul McCartney, but while there are a lot of people dying in Africa because of poverty, the purpose of this activity is not at all served.
DR. FREECLOUD 06-23-2005, 08:20 AM and pink floyd is getting back together to do the show in london! bob did the unthinkable to be for sure.
chito 06-23-2005, 09:11 PM is pink floyd composed of just 3 band members? i saw their picture and they were only 3. yes, they are part of these series of shows, i hope this live 8 project would break the 200 mil dollars that live aid earned in 1985.

for live 8 it is going to be all four. roger waters, david gilmore, nick mason, and richard wright. it will be the first time they all perform together since 1981. roger has not performed with them while the other 3 have produced two albums and two tours under the name pink floyd

I swear these money raising events are somtimes crooked. Lets hope we can get some money to Africa in the near future to stop the deaths and suffering.

yeah that's what i thought, too! imagine 200 million dollars, there must be something wrong, did it all went to the poor people in Africa?
this event will be earning lots of money coz of the talents that they will showcase here! mccartney, madonna, will smith, pink floyd, mariah carey, chris martin, tim mcgraw, faith hill, & 50 cents. lots of talents so the fans will surely watch it.

That's exactly right unfortunately.
fatpom 06-24-2005, 03:39 AM The origional Band Aid, was exactly that. Just a Band-Aid. It may have raised allot of money. But it does nothing to address what is causing the problems in the first place.
The News about Pink Floyd playing together again is Fantastic. But to be honest I'll beleive it when I see it.
If ever there was a "We'll play together again when hell freezes over" They were it. Gilmore & Waters literally dispise each other.
And as a Big Floyd fan. I'm excited by the prospect.
But I am stunned by Geldof's decision to go through this again. He has been saying for years that while Band-Aid & Live_Aid were a huge success. They were a big waste of time.
He's a hypercrite for doing this IMO.
fatpom 06-24-2005, 03:42 AM And guys. All the money did go to Africa. But Geldof has no say in where it is used.
And the Truth is, the problem was allot bigger than $200mil could fix. Still is. In fact the situation is far worse now than it was then.

To local warlords, terrorists, and government palaces. The regular Joes in Africa were given AIDS and little else.
fatpom 06-24-2005, 03:46 AM But at least they got something Falps.
"I went to Live-Aid and all I got was this lousy STD."

I heard it was Bono who twisted Geldof's arm until he agreed. Kept playing on his conscience until he gave in.

while gilmore and waters despise eachother it more suprising that richard wright would agree. richard has more against roger than gilmore does. while the band was still together in 80 roger told richard that he was no longer an employee of the band but still wanted him to tour with them. roger and gilmore were just battling over the rights to the floyd name when nick, rick, and dave decided to do momentary lapse of reason. really it was a battle for them all but it was dave that got the whole thing together. nick mason and roger are still somewhat chummy. a few years back nick was in the same town where roger was performing. nick got opn stage and drummed a song or two. the pink floyd in my opinion are one of the most influential bands on rock music and alot of the modern music we here today. they are my all time favorite rock band. you people are way to cynical. everything has to be negative. from the official pink floyd website.

as far as bob being a hypocrite i just can't understand that type of reasoning. the man has always had a passion to make the world a better place. i can only say that this man has already done more in one week than any of you would do in 10 lifetimes to better out planet. sorry guys i just can't get into being negative about everything. lifes just not fun to me that way.
