View Full Version : Hopkins Vs. Trinidad The Rematch
Mr. Violence 12-06-2004, 03:23 AM If this fight finally happens who do you think would win? Has Hopkins age finally crept up on him? Hard to tell. Did Tito get any better during his brief retirement? That's hard to tell too. Either way I hope this rematch happens. Your thoughts on who you think will win a rematch and why.
cmason 12-06-2004, 12:06 PM hopkins still wins, he has far too much skill for tito. b-hop can change tatics mid-fight if needed, tito can only fight one way. trinidads power still needs respect, though. the guy can bang.

I see what you are saying. But say this fight happens a year from now considering Hops age do you think his age will factor into the fight.....or will even a 41 year old hops still give tito problems?
oldgringo 12-06-2004, 01:00 PM Hopkins beats Trinidad tommorow, in one year, in two years, even maybe in three. He's got Trinidad figured out and he is superior to him in every aspect of boxing, mentally and physically. Trinidad's power really means **** against Hop if you ask me. If they were to fight fall 2005 I think Hopkins would impose his will on Tito earlier and either stop it late again or take a cushy UD.
borikua 12-06-2004, 01:04 PM Tito will win and it will be so easy that ppl will be on shock...Nard did his best career fight against Tito and Tito underestimated Nard and was looking for a quick KO...I believe that Tito will come prepared for this one if it happens and I doubt that Nard will be able to do the same fight he did in 2001.
mic573 12-06-2004, 01:05 PM I think Hopkins beats Tito maybe stops him again but not as easy as the first. It's kind of hard for me to believe Hopkins can repeat the same performance again. He was damn near perfect that night then again maybe he can but I think age has shown on Hopkins since 2001. Either way I will still be going for Tito and hope that he wins.
borikua 12-06-2004, 01:07 PM O.G. we have a bet if this fight is made...
Mr. Violence 12-06-2004, 01:08 PM I just have to say--this rematch has to happen---it would be a crime against boxing if it never happens.
mic573 12-06-2004, 01:13 PM It will be very difficult to make seeing as Hopkins and Don King are not really on good terms right now.

But at the same time I heard that they could make an out of court arrangement if the rematch takes place...;)

If this is made before Hop retires or completely becomes gay with DLH, you got a bet. You just throw out a few numbers and I'm game. Plus I'll be 1.8 mil richer after this weekend because Miguel Cotto is going to KTFO Randall Bailey. :D
urdaddyinAZ 12-06-2004, 01:16 PM Gotta give the nod to Hopkins because he is the naturally larger man out of the two. Although.....the gap has closed considerably since the last fight in which I though Trinidad stood about a 10% chance of winning (he woulda had to have landed a perfect singel left hook and ended with a 1 punch KO).

damn you are right. Don king is getting older hopefully he will be on his way out soon.

Don King will promote boxing until he is either banned or he dies, he just makes too much damn money too quit. Plus he is an ego maniac and always wants the spotlight.

OK bro. :D
bchynn 12-06-2004, 01:26 PM I don't see Trinidad having an answer for Hopkins' attack. People are really hyping Trinidad up again, ever since he defeated Mayorga. The fact is, Trinidad would have always performed that way against Mayorga, his performance wasn't based on improvement.
I'd predict Hopkins to take Trinidad out earlier than last time.
PRboxingfan 12-06-2004, 01:40 PM I think it is hard to call but I'm going with a Trinidad KO in the 9th round. Hopkins would have to fight perfectly again and I don't think he has it in him anymore. He would be overconfident from how easy his first fight was and would end up paying for it.
theironone 12-06-2004, 02:55 PM Hopkins is too skillful, Tito can't change his gameplan enough to capitalise on Hopkins wear factor, Hopkins again by either late KO or points. The only chance i believe Tito has if X tries to trade early and gets caught but since he is who he is and very rarely comes unprepared then he does the double
abdiel2k3 12-06-2004, 03:32 PM tito is allowed to use his illegal handwraps
but doesnt help him becuz he wont be able to land anyclean shots
hopkins picks tito apart and finishes him even earlier
Tyson'scolon 12-06-2004, 05:01 PM Hopkins completely shut out Tito in the first fight, and has shown no signs of slowing down in subsequent fights. Why would the second fight be any different?
Great 12-06-2004, 05:29 PM Hop by UD.
Mr. Violence 12-06-2004, 08:10 PM if tito brings a new game to the table he has a chance. if he fights the same as last time he doesnt.
kadyo 12-06-2004, 08:24 PM I'm a big Trinidad fan but I think b-hop is just too big, too strong and too smart for tito. The guy(b-hop) does'nt seeem to age bro. What is he ? a middle age monster or what?

hops is turning 40 in january. hes a freak of nature the man looks and fights like hes 25 years old
Kimmy 12-06-2004, 08:29 PM Hopkins will win by Ko, he wants it more, Trinidad is a bully and deosn`t like it when he has to fight against a true opponent!
jack_the_rippuh 12-06-2004, 08:56 PM This message goes out to everyone who has an opinion on who would win this fight...
We can only predict what the outcome of this fight will be based on the first fight..
Hopkins kills Trinidad again.
Reason: Trinidad is one-dimensional, and during their fight, Hopkins only had to look for something what worked against him, and keep doing it, because Trinidad reacts the same way to the same thing, no matter how it gets him.
People, please look at the first fight, look how Hopkins lands the 1-2 (jab, straight right) combo at will. Letterman commented on that during the fight, he said you would think Tito would eventually see it coming, and come at more of an angle..another thing, look at the move Hopkins KD Trinidad with (upper-cut to draw the left hook only to be in a good position to land the straight right), he used it earlier in the fight, like a round & a half ago, and Trinidad just fell for the same thing...another thing, look at round 9, I believe it was, whenever you are at close range with Tito, and you let your hands go on him, he's going to throw the left hook. All Hopkins did was land a three hit combo, ducked and walked away, he did the same thing three times, and Trinidad never caught on..
Hopkins will kill this kid. Being one-dimensional can only get you so far, especially when your best attribute becomes a non-factor...
Again, Merchant said, "When a guy is as good as puncher as Trinidad, he depends on that, he expects that somewhere along the way it will play the difference, and if it doesn't...whatever his answers are to Bernard Hopkins."

Based on his past performances i dont know if i could honestly say that Tito ever placed all of his hoped on a quick KO. Tito looked trained a ready for that fight to me.
ME123 12-06-2004, 09:02 PM Kimmy I wouldnt agree with that answer. Trinidad has fought some of the best fighters in the world. I honestly think if you take a look at Trinidad's record and Hopkins. Trinidad by far has the best quality opponents. When a fighter steps into the ring with Trinidad they believe they could push him around and slug with him huge mistake, as with Hopkins all he did in his fight was counter Trinidad until later into the fight when he starter to become a more offensive fighter. I honestly think Hopkins is a awesome fighter, but 2 beat Trinidad twice is a huge huge task. The night they fought he had the greatest plan and executed it well, I dont think he could do it again, but thats my opinion. Its hard to beat an A CLASS fighter twice.

in my humble opinion if Tito learned more skills like better defense, mixing up combiantions, he can reach greatness. it may be time for tito to add a new trainer to work with Tito Sr. just to bring new skills to the table.
wmute 12-06-2004, 09:12 PM want to see more of coming back tito. the mayorga did not mean **** to me
hopkins will have to get older someday
if it happened today hopkins
also it's not like nard brought his A game to eak out a decision he probably brought his A game (like he did in every fight in the past 10 years, the only guy he could not figure out was Roy Jones Jr.) and handed tito his ass

i'd like to see tito against winky that will be good and a good prediction if he's ready for hops again.
I want to see Taylor thrown in the deep end.
If he's got it, he'll beet a 40yr old hopkins - lets find out

thats a good one too
Nick1998 12-06-2004, 10:54 PM In my opinion, BHOP is the only fight for Tito.
bchynn 12-07-2004, 02:40 AM I don't know where people are getting the impression that Trinidad will beat Hopkins. There's been no evidence since their first fight that either fighter has gotten better or worse. A lot of those opinions are coming from people's asses and not their heads. Trinidad is going to put his career at risk fighting Hopkins again, especially after what Hopkins did to him in the first fight. Completely one-sided.
FrankJack 12-07-2004, 06:16 AM I'm kinda surprised that they give rematches after you get beat down like that. It was so decisive.
cmason 12-07-2004, 07:47 AM I see what you are saying. But say this fight happens a year from now considering Hops age do you think his age will factor into the fight.....or will even a 41 year old hops still give tito problems?
when you look at hopkins age on paper he has no right being where he is. but the guy is in the gym most days, even when he's not got a fight coming up, so he's always in good shape. and it's not like tito is getting any younger is he? although he too trains very hard. so to answer your question, no i don't see age being a factor, hopkins ring generalship wins this one. also i think this fight will take place next summer, so not too far in the future.
realtim 12-07-2004, 08:34 AM Hopkins all the way same as b4 without a doubt. and if they get 2gether when Hokins is 50 and fight then hopkins would still have his number it's got nothing to do with age. Psychologically i dont think tito wants the fight.
He would be better to try clean up the light middle division.
