View Full Version : How About A New Heavyweight Tournament
Mr. Violence 12-06-2004, 02:22 AM It would be nice to see a Heavywieght Tournament much like the one they had for the Middleweights a few years ago in which Hopkins won. It would be interesting to see who would end up winning all the belts in this Heavyweight Touranment. In your opinion out of the current Heavyweights, who do you think will come out on top?
Mr. Violence 12-06-2004, 01:38 PM another thing I'd like to ask is do you think that James Toney has a shot at winning a tournament like this at heavyweight?
tri4ben2 12-06-2004, 01:59 PM These tournements that you see are designed to showcase two fighters fighting lesser opposition for the purpose of having them fight against eachother in a later, bigger payperview fight.
You are not going to see the 4 heavyweight champions all fight eachother in a tournement where the best one wins.
You will be lucky to see one unification fight in 2005.

Not while DK is around

King got burned when Hopkins beat Tito so he's unlikely to start up another tournament and risk losing all the belts to a competing fighter.
Having said that I'd give Toney a good shot, and maybe (emphasis on the "maybe") Klitchko. Of course King could just rig it all so that the judged give Ruiz every fight. It's too hard to discuss this without taking the King factor into account.
m00ks 12-06-2004, 02:39 PM It ain't a heavyweight tournament that we need...just...better heavyweights! You can call Battle for Supremacy a mini-tournament but it wasn't big.

so in your opinion you are saying that the overall quality of the heavyweights are bad and that finding one true champ wouldn't help?

Sadly no it won't help. Because he would be dubbed champ of a division that lacks talent. Quality of opposition is weak so I doubt the title of being true HW champ would help. Might help the boxer but certainly not the division.
MikeHunt 12-06-2004, 04:36 PM This Will Never Happen......i Gotta Better Chance Of Marrying J-lo.

It's necessary.
i think tony ,v klitschko, or byrd would win this tornement

Yeah, It wasn't really a tournament though, Just a few great fights with all the heavyweights

agree with it except for the Toney part, but he could win the WBO no doubt but none of the other belts.
Tyson'scolon 12-06-2004, 05:41 PM The sad part is, if all the best heavyweights fought each other, most of the fights would still suck.
Colonel Jones 12-06-2004, 06:50 PM It would be fun to talk about, but once it was over the champ would just slowly get stripped of his titles and we'd be back to square one. The root of the problem is these damn promoters and stations who have fighters locked in under contract. No one wants to put their fighter up against another unless he agrees to sign with them. Then again theres bull**** politics in every business out there, I don't see why boxing would be any different.
SonnyG8R 12-06-2004, 06:54 PM I agree that the talent is appallingly poor at the heavyweight division. A tournament like the one discussed would be interesting though. I think Klit has the best chance of beating the others.

Who the hell owns that ass in your avatar? damn that looks tasty.
tri4ben2 12-06-2004, 07:02 PM Vitaly Klitschko would beat the other three guys,
There is no chance of it ever happening.
Next topic.
That is one nice ass.
