This is not a punch I have ever spent much time on but will try to use it more in future, after seeing the likes of Oscar De La Hoya use it very well especially to set up other shots. I hear Floyd Mayweather can use it excellently as well.
Apart from the obvious, lower your level etc. what does everyone consider the best way to throw this punch?

when jabbing to the body
i think its better to lean into it
so its lil stronger
cuz u dont need as much snap
just the power of the punch

Yeah when you throw keep your right hand up (left hand if you're a southpaw) and get out of there quick, watch out for the left hook.
I like to throw a jab to the body as my opponent jabs. It's much safer and a lot easier to follow up the punch that way.

To be honest that's maybe one of my best punches
I sometimes jab to the solar plexus then straight right to the head
or feint a jab and go to the belly etc.
You will see when I post my videos up
It's great to wear down your opponent

The main key is the element of surprise because very few people use it. It will knock the wind a little bit out of the guy if used right. It will also lower a guys defense if he's sets it too high or covers up too much. Gives him two things to worry about, the head amd the body.

I like to use it when a guy can't deal with your jab effectively and covers up and doesn't look to counter after the jab. Throw a reg jab and mix up a jab to the body once in a while. The jab to the body will lower a guys defense and knock the wind out a bit.
I think pernell whitaker was excellent at it. He leans his head down and you can't even counter.
I use two setups. One for the slow fighters or ones who absorb jabs instead of slips or parry/block. The other for counter punchers and active fighters.
Slow reactionfighter/Non counterpunchers/Eat jabs all day type fighter My setup is throw a couple of double jabs. The guy expects two jabs. Feint the second jab, dip down and throw that jab to the body. Move out fast or clinch. Again, use only with fighters with slow reactions or mainly coverup when you jab. Counter punchers and active punchers usually will throw anything out there so don't use this because you run into a stray right cross, hook, or uppercut when you lean.
I also like the right cross to body over the jab.
That's what Roy Jones does because its much stronger and powerful than the jab. You can throw it on any part of the body, not just the solarplexus. Very few boxers expect it because who uses it? Not as safe as throwing a jab to body because you got to set the feet a little bit longer. The guys with slow reactions are a good target because they are so slow to react or busy covering up.
Active punchers/counter punchers/fast eactions Like the ThaGreatest
said, feint a jab and throw a jab to the body. These types catch on quick so don't use it often, only when they don't expect it and you can surprise them.
