View Full Version : Too Many Fight-Dodgers
TheEvilSaint 06-17-2005, 07:06 AM this boxing era if full of cowards. too many "top fighters" are dodging rematches or possible superfights and instead are going for the easy money. the following are fight-dodgers:
-lennox lewis dodged VK, chris byrd, and john ruiz.
-diego corrales is dodging a rematch with castillo and going for a "rematch" with freitas.
-john ruiz is dodging a rematch with james toney and his mandatory nicolay valuev.
-vitali klitschko sounds like hes dodging hasim rahman for a madatory defense.
-hasim rahman was dodging vitali klitschko cuz rahman kept demanding more money.
-chris byrd is dodging a rematch with WK.
-MAB, erik morales, and manny pacquiao are dodging juan manuel marquez simply because marquez is such a damn good counterpuncher.
-joe mesi was dodging a rematch with vassiliy jirov.
-bernard hopkins sounds like hes dodging winky wright (he doesnt need to fight winky).
-every middleweight and jr. middleweight is dodging winky wright.
-javier castillejo is dodging ricardo mayorga (hes taking a bigger fight with fernando vargas).

YOu got alot of things wrong here.
Mesi is doing everything he can to get back into boxing but the commissions wont let him.
Hopkins is fighting Taylor who in my opinion is a more game opponent than Winky Wright.
Corrales should not have to be bossed around by the WBC the way he is even though he was a coward for that mouthpiece stunt.
Valuev is not the mandatory for the WBA.
Chris Byrd is a dodger..agreed
Vitali's inactivity is retarded....agreed
Marquez is poorly promoted by Bob Arum...agreed

right after the fight with jirov, mesi was asked if hed give him a rematch and mesi said "no, i think i proved my point here." when in fact he didnt.
taylor's inexperienced and will get schooled by hopkins. winky's damn near flawless as a fighter. but hopkins doesnt need to fight winky.
the WBC wants a rematch, the fans want a rematch, and castillo deserves a rematch. and corrales filing an appeal to prevent a rematch is inexcusable.
even if valuev isnt the mandatory, he will be. ruiz will "fight anyone"... except james toney and nicolay valuev.
sisforshaq 06-17-2005, 07:30 AM Arent MAB,Morales and Pac Super Feathers now? So unless he moves up they wont fight?
Winky is one of my favorite fighters but hes not flawless, in the 2nd fight Shane Mosley almost had em. He just looked flawless againest a one dimensional fighter like Tito. He defintley is great but another boxer can expose some of his weaknesses just like Shane did in the 2nd fight.

MAB, morales, and pac moved up in super feather partially to stay away from JMM. hes been thinking about moving up in weight to try and catch them.

Winky can Jab that is about it. He is actually somewhat one-dimensional compared to Taylor. Taylor can fight in alot of different styles. He is a much better puncher than Wright and he is just overall better than Wright in practically every area. He is also not really unexperienced he has had over 25 pro fights. I dont think you have seen many Taylor fights, this guy is really good. Taylor would thrash Wright easy in my opinion. He will stop Hopkins relatively easy in opinion as well.
Wright beating Trinidad was more of a case of Trinidad being a faded fighter than Wright being a great fighter. Wright is a decent fighter but by no means great. Taylor has the potential to be a "great" fighter. And very soon he will be undisputed middleweight champion. I only hope he keeps the belts the together and makes defences of the Undisputed title.
Martin (Top Knowledge) 06-17-2005, 10:40 AM Lennox Lewis ducked Chris Byrd and John Ruiz?... LOL!... That gave me a giggle.
Lennox Lewis won a TKO rd6 over Vitlai Klitscho, he was 39yrs old and decided to call it a day... What, did you want Lennox Lewis to fight well into his 40's?... LOL!...
Lennox Lewis took on everyone and also made it his mission to avenge his two defeats!... The guy's a legend! He's not or never has been a "fight ducker".

Lennox Lewis is overrated. What all time great fighters got their asses knocked out cold by very average fighters like Rahman and McCall.
What are Lewis' best wins. A win over an extremely faded Tyson. A win over an extremely faded Holyfield. Shannon Briggs and Frank Bruno, he barely escaped with the descision against Mercer etc..His win over Ruddock was basically his most impressive win.
drez24 06-17-2005, 10:43 AM Barrera is ducking Pac fo 2 years now!
how ta **** is Pac duckin JMM you ****in idiot?!
I don't think pac is ducking JMM, but i definitely dont think that JMM ducked pac by pricing himself out of the rematch. The man was asking for 1.5M, $750k was a slap in the face, especially when pac was getting 3M (I think) for the fight.... the guy wasnt even the champ! JMM was just asking for what he thought he deserved, and I agree.

How about ruling the heavyweight division for a decade? Unifying the belts etc...
Actually I'm not gonna entertain a discussion about this, I can't be bothered to spend my time banging my head against a brick wall... LOL!...
Don't worry about it Mckay!...

He got the WBC title in an eliminator because Tyson dropped it to fight Holyfield. Holyfield was a more highly regarded fighter at that time then was Lewis. Then Lewis got the other two belts from an extremely faded Holyfield who got them from knocking out Michael Moore and the other from Tyson.
So please explain this concept of "ruling the heavyweight division for a decade thing again"
HOlyfield was Undisputed Champion until Bowe. Than Bowe vacated the WBC. Lewis got the WBC. Then Lewis lost the WBC to McCall. Then Tyson ended up with the WBC and the WBA. Tyson lost the WBA to Holyfield. Holyfield got the IBF from Moore. Then Lewis beat the old man Holyfield for the other 2 belts. Hardly dominating for a decade. Then you throw in the fact he got his ass dropped by the very average fighter Hasim Rahman during the time when he did have the undisputed title.

Facts:
Pac was gonna get 900k if he fought JMM. It woulda been on HBO After Dark.
JMM would get 750k fo reason bein that Pac is the bigga draw fo the fight.
I think he priced himself out by askin 1.5mil fo an HBO After Dark event. Pac only got 1.75 mil when he fought Morales on PPV after all.

true, winky's got a jab. hes also got a good chin, awsome defense, plenty of stamina, and excellent speed. however, the only good fighters that winky's fought are fernando vargas (L UD), shane mosley (W UD, W MD), and tito trinidad (W UD). he hasnt been tested by a TRUE A grade figher like hopkins or de la hoya or jermain taylor.
as for my comment on taylor: hes unproven. thats all ill say about him right now. hes not ready for hopkins.

He has average speed, an average chin, average power, average overall skills, good defence, and a good jab. Like I said he is limited compared to Taylor. Taylor also matches up better against Hopkins in my opinion. Taylor hits with bad intentions and he is in my opinion more dynamic than Wright who relies too much on his right jab alone. His left hand is not very good either (Wrights.)

For one thing Wright's style is is defensive and boring to alot of people. He has a low KO percentage.
Another thing, who is actually dodging Wright. Trinidad just fought him and now De La Hoya is looking for a fight with him. What else more could Wright want?

what more could wright want? another decent payday. in 33 years of living and 15 years of boxing, y is it that only after 52 fights are people finally recognizing him?
as for KO percentage: who cares? john ruiz's KO percentage is 85% and hes the most boring fighter in the world today.

There will probably come a time when Wright will fight Taylor after Taylor beats Hopkins. Then you will see how one dimensional Wright really is. He relies to heavily on his right jab. His left is pretty much trash. He lacks power. His best asset is his defence, but he can be outboxed, he not a masterclass boxer, he is one of those guys who knows how to do just enough to win every round, nothing more. Wright is actually even kind of stiff in there, he does have a whole lot of movement with his head or feet either.

The Troll 06-17-2005, 02:57 PM well, if u win every round, u win every fight. what more could u want than to win?
Well for one thing he does not win every fight. Another thing, knockouts in most people's minds count for alot more than descison victories. Taylor is just overall an extremely more manacing fighter than Wright. He would tear Wright up. Taylor is faster, younger, more dynamic, pysically stronger, more rugged, hits much harder with both hands.

-MAB, EM, and MP are all moving up in weight. whos left in the featherweight division? JMM is all alone now... doest that give u some kind of clue? a clue like "hey, maybe these guys are trying to STAY AWAY from JMM"?
-in his post fight interview, mesi said that he wouldnt give jirov a rematch.
-mayorga is castillejo's mandatory. castillejo is fighting vargas instead. if he was fighting mayorga instead of vargas, he would be making a mandatory defense, and a madatory defense is not dodging.

Fighters decisions are influenced largely by the money they make and avoiding things that can be dangerous to their careers, nobody wants to fight Winky because winky can destroy careers, I still dont consider him a star fighter because he relies on defense and a jab, he hasn't K.Od any body has no power but can frustrate alot of good fighters, he is like chris byrd nobody would wanna fight him. Although i do think that hopkins can beat winky if he changes his fight plan and fight the jab with his own jab and right. Dela Hoya can beat winky, jermaine taylor might be able to beat winky too.
oldgringo 06-17-2005, 06:56 PM Greatest you aren't going to get shot in Detroit and it's really not that bad. You don't have to really be afraid of anything where you're going unless you pick fights with people in the very low income areas of the D. You won't be around that though.
Erik Morales is doing ANYTHING but ducking Juan Manuel Marquez. He is trying to become the first mexican fighter to win world titles in 4 weight classes. He is the name, Marquez should come to him.
Saying that Wright is being ducked by everyone at 154 and 160 is funny, because Hop is fighting Taylor and Kassim Ouma has most definitely expressed interest in fighting Wright.
