Atwa_66 12-05-2004, 12:24 AM Which Rocky Movie Is Your Personal Favorite, and Why Is It Your Favorite?
My favorites are Rocky 3 and 4
I like them because Ivan Drago and Clubber Lang remind me of some boxers that box today, plus they are great movies. :)
Nautilus 12-05-2004, 12:47 AM Rocky I

3-rocky4/rocky2
4-rocky 5
paulmmv 12-05-2004, 01:16 AM i would hafe to say my favorite rocky movie is 3 but 5 is not far behind
neils7147933 12-05-2004, 01:29 AM Rocky - then Rocky II - then Rocky III - then Rocky V - then Rocky IV
Rocky IV is so painfully bad, it's begging for Mystery Science Theater to screen it as part of a Sly triple feature with "Stop or My Mom Will Shoot" and "Rhinestone"
Boxerdog 12-05-2004, 01:45 AM The original was a very good flik.
All the others were kind of cartoonish.
nezahualcoyotl 12-05-2004, 01:50 AM i think the 3rd one and the 4th one are the best...
the muzik is really pumped up too...the 80's pump u up good.
Nasty Handspeed 12-05-2004, 02:41 AM the first one is my fav
AKATheMack 12-05-2004, 04:29 AM Whats wrong with number 5? That happens to be my personal favorite. My favorite part of ALL the movies is at the end when Rocky says " You knocked him down why dont you try knockin me down now?"Hell yea 5 all the way
n14061981 12-05-2004, 04:32 AM number 3 for me
The first and the second.
i think nr 1,3 and 4 are my favorite
Dark Destroyer 12-05-2004, 06:51 AM I love the first and second because i think Carl Wheathers was one cool MF in those films.
I think the first was the best.
Cletus Funk 12-05-2004, 11:15 AM 1 for me. 5 was total garbage - just terrible acting, especially when the No1 contender is trying to call out Rocky. I suppose you can forgive him but just about everything that comes out of Tommy Morrison's mouth is so bad it makes me laugh every time. Didn't get many of John Wayne's genes did he? I have to admit that the fight at the end is good though.
!! Anorak 12-05-2004, 02:52 PM just about everything that comes out of Tommy Morrison's mouth is so bad it makes me laugh every time. Didn't get many of John Wayne's genes did he?Sorry, John Wayne? Don't get the reference.
Anyway, even though these aren't really boxing movies, more get-hit-in-the-head-repeatedly movies, I do have to say that the first is a very good film. Though did you see Eddie Murphy's routine on them in Raw?
The sequels were less good, if still entertaining... Rocky's version of the Rope-A-Dope involves telling Mr. T he's not tough while he's smashing him flush in the head.
I never knew Tommy Gunn was a real boxer when I saw it (went off the sport at the time) and Ivan Drago, as everyone says, resembles a certain WBC champ right now...
Cletus Funk 12-05-2004, 03:00 PM Sorry, John Wayne? Don't get the reference.
He always used to claim to be a distant relative :)
!! Anorak 12-05-2004, 03:05 PM So you're saying John Wayne could act?!!?
Cletus Funk 12-05-2004, 03:09 PM So you're saying John Wayne could act?!!?
LOL. Point taken. Maybe he learned how to fight from him though :D
Great 12-05-2004, 04:29 PM Rocky 4 for me.
When I was a kid, I liked 3 and 4, for the same exact reason as someone had described earlier, it was a bit cartoony and one my childhood fave's was in it and i'll forever be one and that is a " Hulkamaniac" . But in retrospect I'd say the first one, cause it didn't have the usual storybook ending, the underdog did not defeat the guy w/ the big grin. I liked the 4th one, to this day not even Hamed could've topped Apollo Creed's entrance w/ the Godfather of soul. The only thing that I liked about the 5th one was they actually used a real boxer in Tommy Morrison and I thought the streetfight in the end was pretty good. Was it the 2nd one were Rocky ran up the steps of Philadelphia's city hall or somethin'? That scene alone I thought was the best out of all the Rocky movies.
Does anybody in here think that, Stallone got on the " juice " for the 3rd Rocky? I mean his physique went to such a drastic change from the 2nd one.
Kimmy 12-05-2004, 05:37 PM I like Rocky 2. It kept to Rocky as a poor man, before he got rich and he achieved the win in the end.
Hurlex 12-05-2004, 05:39 PM i liek 3 and 4 more then 2....cuz rocky 2 is hella like cartoonish/fake more then the otheres...
rocky 3-the struggle of when you can beat anyone and you come up against all odds to do it when everyone thinks you cant in a rematch--- (mab/morales trilogy)
rocky 4-facing the man everyone think you cant beat and knowing one punch form him can take you out(someone you have never faced before)..but you go for it with all ur heart and win and prove them all wrong----(ali-foreman)
but rocky 2 (i love it dont get me wrong) but both falling..and the slow motion and everything..and apollo falls back down as if he didnt have heart..come on
what i dont like about rocky 5..is..why is he poor again???
Atwa_66 12-05-2004, 05:58 PM I like Rocky 2. It kept to Rocky as a poor man, before he got rich and he achieved the win in the end.
Yeah I didn't like that either, how he was all rich and stuff. I think it's cool in Rocky I how he's training in Philly and Barely making it with a rundown apartment, It shows us how just starting off as a boxer is, fighting in bars and stuff.
I'm not trying to against the grain. I honestly do like Rocky V the best then III, IV, I, II. People always talk **** when I say this, but it's something about how Rocky gets that extra motivation when he hears Mickey's voice from beyond the grave "GET UP YOU SON OF A *****, BECAUSE MICKEY LOVES YOU" then as Tommy is walking away Rocky goes "Hey yo Tommy, I didn't hear no bell. One more round. One more round." Also who can forget George W. Duke? That guy is comical.
MWCOFSU 04-08-2005, 10:48 PM 2 - "that man just kept coming. we dont need that kinda man in our life"
1 - gotta love it when Paulie throws the turkey in the street.
4 - "if he dies, he dies"
3 - "pain"
5 - from Tommy Gun to Rocky's kid...complete garbage. just my opinion though. no arguments.
czars_salad 04-08-2005, 11:05 PM the first one
masterdirector 04-09-2005, 02:47 AM I liked Rocky 1 the least. Had it been the only one, I'd be saying it was a good movie, probably better than I think now.
I liked 3, then 5, then 4, then 2, then 1. But it changes constantly, with 3 staying at #1. Rocky 3 has sentimental value for me, so I'm biased. It introduced me to film, to montage, to Eye of the Tiger, to VCRs. And it was made the same year I was born, yay.
I was thoroughly convinced, until I was about 9-10, that Rocky had won in Rocky 1. You can barely hear the ****ing ring announcer say Apollo Creed won. There's so much stuff going on. They should've fixed that in audio design. Now it is still there forever.
I think Rocky 2 is the funniest of the Rocky films.
I don't care what anybody says, Stallone is an okay guy. Not AS bad of an actor as they make him out to be. He at least doesn't try to act like he's a DeNiro or Pacino. He knows he's an action star. He's VERY willing to accept criticism and laugh at himself. More than any other action star. Steven Seagal and Van Damme are little *****es. Especially Seagal.

You talk a lot of ****....
Kid Achilles 04-09-2005, 02:57 AM Rocky I for sure.
masterdirector 04-09-2005, 03:07 AM I'm not trying to against the grain. Rocky V is great. It is the first contemporary movie to deal with boxing corruption, first one I can think of. I mean, technically you could argue The Sting II is, but...we won't.
The soundtrack is good. Yeah they have some 1990 rap riff, but what'd you expect?
I actually think the kid does a decent job. Tommy Morrison sucks, that was a mistake, but yeah, he still works well enough. Gunn beating Union Cane isn't too credible.
I can't stand that Rocky ends up poor. But that shows what the sport does to so many boxers. Even Rocky can't catch a break financially.
Probably my biggest problem with Rocky V...the long gap between Rocky IV and Rocky V. Even though its only like 4 years, everyone looks noticeably older in Rocky V. Tony is barely recognizable. It's clearly no longer 1986 when Rocky V picks up, even though they supposedly just got back from Russia. The kid is obviously way too old from IV to V.
Mickey looks older, but it actually works since it is more Mickey's ghost than Mickey.
George Washington Duke is excellent as a promoter. He's the best Don King like character ever. He's better than Samuel L. Jackson was in Great White Hype. He's better than Paul Winfield was in Tyson (as Don King). He's better than the Don King in Ali and better than Ving Rhames' Don King (though that was my 2nd favorite).
George Washington Duke is like an antichrist version of Apollo Creed. How can you possibly not LOVE that performance? He's the perfect antagonist all the way to the end.
One good thing about all the Rocky movies is the complexity of the storylines. There are multiple plotlines.
Rocky V, you have Rocky and Rocky Jr.'s plotline - father-son I'm stuck with.
You have Rocky-Tommy Gunn - Father-son I always wanted
Rocky- Duke plotline
Rocky vs. his family plotline
-a sub plotline of Tommy/Duke vs. Balboa family. They're tearing Rocky away from his family. Rocky is so into getting back into the ring, living through Tommy that he can't stand it.
And of course the Rocky-Mickey thing, which really drives the whole film. And even though he isn't there, Apollo. Tony mentions Apollo once at the beginning.
Apollo is critical, as is Mickey, because Rocky feels that he must fight to keep their spirits alive, as well as his own. So since he's unable to fight, he wants to pass their spirit on and make it visible through Tommy Gunn. Unfortunately, Gunn isn't the right person. He doesn't have what Rocky has, as Adrianne beats us over the head with, he doesn't have Rocky's heart.
My biggest criticism of the Rocky movies as a whole is that they do tend to spell out the theme a bit too clearly, which is a bit insulting, but yeah I'll forgive it.
The Troll 04-09-2005, 06:07 AM Rocky 1 I think is the best 3 and and 4 are tied for 2nd best. Actually I think I like 4 a little bit better than 3. Rocky 5 was by far the worst.
YOu know Sylvester Stallone wrote and directed all the Rocky films himself, and starred of course in all the films, that is pretty impressive.
Komandos 04-09-2005, 06:21 AM Rocky 1 and 2 and 5
Moonra69 04-09-2005, 07:03 AM I liked the first one but the one with Drago, that was the best. The training of Drago and Rocky, that pumps anyone.
Mick Hucknall 04-09-2005, 07:41 AM Does anybody in here think that, Stallone got on the " juice " for the 3rd Rocky? I mean his physique went to such a drastic change from the 2nd one.
Yeh he did begin to take Steroids from the 3rd Rocky onwards.
My favourites are in this order
Rocky 2
Rocky 1
Rocky 3
Rocky 4
Rocky 5

one thing about stallone -- i just couldn't understand what he says! i agree, though, that he's better than the two clowns, seagal and van damme
Komandos 04-09-2005, 09:22 AM And Rocky 3 was good.
Slipx 04-09-2005, 12:15 PM Rocky IV is so painfully bad, it's begging for Mystery Science Theater to screen it as part of a Sly triple feature with "Stop or My Mom Will Shoot" and "Rhinestone"
um the part when Rock took a drive in his car and had flashbacks of apollo dying and then exercising with him=classic.
rocky4 my fav easily
simeraksou 04-09-2005, 01:35 PM Which Rocky Movie Is Your Personal Favorite, and Why Is It Your Favorite?
My favorites are Rocky 3 and 4
I like them because Ivan Drago and Clubber Lang remind me of some boxers that box today, plus they are great movies. :)
rocky 1 is definitely the best of the series. it shows his tough life and how he gets to turn it around etc. it had better storylines then the other rockies although i liked all of them except rocky 5
akins12732 04-09-2005, 04:32 PM rocky 4 by far
rocky 5
rocky 1
rocky 2
rocky 3
PessimisticPug 04-09-2005, 04:36 PM I still like the first rocky the best. Shows what guys do for such little money aswell as what life is like once the dream of being champ is gone but the need to fight is still aound.
then my list would go:
Rocky II
Rocky IV
Rocky V
Rocky III......................Rockyn' :boxing:
The_One77 04-09-2005, 05:22 PM i used to love rocky 3,4,5 but when i started to learn about boxing and watching the real boxers fight i start to think that it rocky 3,4,5 was all a big joke.
For example, the fights were damn fake, c'mon!
Rocky 3-what kind of a fighter is clubber lang? He takes thousands on punches on his face and he barely flinches yet alone get hurt. While he throws a few left hooks and knocks rocky down?
Rocky 4-Totally the opposite, Ivan Drago was supposed to be alot stronger than Clubber lang in punching power and proved that by killing Appolo Creed.
Apparently the machine that was used to measure his punching power measured a strong heavyweight to have a score of 800. Ivan Drago had a score of over 3000, yet in the fight he couldn't even defeat Rocky despite Rocky suffering millions of blows to the head.
I liked Rocky 1 and 2 better because it had a true purpose to all boxing fans who want to become a boxer. Even that was a bit fake, rocky's a total bum who struggled against other club fighters but yet after about 2 months of hard training he is at a world class level defeating the undisputed world heavyweight champion of the world, Appolo Creed. I think Rocky 1 symbolises how real boxing is like, not too flashy and quiet realistic.
MWCOFSU 04-09-2005, 06:26 PM Steven Seagal and Van Damme are little *****es. Especially Seagal.
Seagal KO1 over Stallone.
Chups 04-09-2005, 06:41 PM Rocky 3....haven't seen five.
Exciterx24 04-09-2005, 06:47 PM Rocky IV all the way. One of my favorite movies ever.
