View Full Version : Top 3 Musical Artists.............Who are yours?

mine are....

1.Rakim (Greatest MC of all-time, **** what you heard)
2.Prince (The man's catalog speaks for itself, like I told Anorak. Prince is the baddest man on the planet)
3.Beck (he makes good music and doesnt give a **** who hates on it. A musical genius if you ask me. Check his new album "Guero" if you dont believe me.)

!! Anorak

Great thread this, I really need to think on it though. Prince, yeah, he's superb.

Stevie Wonder's back catalogue has a lot to enjoy. (Easy way for anyone to take down Stevie - just mention I Just Called... or that cover of Signed, Sealed Delivered... Easy way to take down Prince... there's a lot. Everyone's got some drop in quality, haven't they?)

I need to think this through, Godz. In terms of superhuman talent then you could say someone like Hendrix, though I love him more for his lyrics and singing (okay, if you can call it that, I know...) than his guitar playing. A tough question.

Here's one for you Godz... what's Prince's most underrated and most neglected albums? I'd say Around The World In A Day and The Truth.

I love Around The World In A Day, The Truth is nice too.

Tamborine and Don't Play me are 2 of my favorite Prince tracks.

Stevie and Jimi are nice calls Anorak.
My three favorites among the living would probably be Chick Corea, Jimmy Haslip (and the rest of Yellow Jackets) and somebody completely off-the-wall like Maurice White.

Nobody comes close to Stevie Wonder in my mind, he is by far my favorite artist of all time. He's everything I could have ever asked for in a musician. My distant second and third place artists are:

2nd) Elton John

3rd) Michael Jackson

Brian McNight is in my top 5 or 6, he just hasn't had the longevity to crack the top 3 yet. Lionel is also a legend, I'd have to have him in my top 8 or so also. Great song writer and singer......similar to BabyFace. You sound like you like similar music to what I like. Do you listen to Anthony Hamilton...I'd have to say he's my favorite current artist, the man has incredible talent.

I am unaware of the Aerosmth connection...maybe. He is just very cool sounding....a little jazzy. Serious groove music.

Yeah I love R&B man that's my thing. Brian McKnight is my favorite singer ever probably. I just love his voice for some reason and it's very good music to play while you have a girl in bed too.

His self-titled album was amazing...One Last Cry was beautiful (that sounds gay but for lack of a better word). My favorite album of his has to be I Remember You. I can't remember a whole album that I've enjoyed more.

My Favorite McKnight songs are (in this order):

Every Beat of my Heart
One Last Cry
Never Felt This Way
Still In Love
Crazy Love
After the Love is Gone
Anytime
Love Me, Hold Me
I Remember You
6, 8, 12

Yeah his music is fantastic, his song "Still" was my wife and I's wedding song. This last album was a little disappointing, if you listen to Brian you have to be a fan of both Joe and Avant then. Both those cats can drop the panties right off a woman. Jaheim has a nice voice too.

I decided to break this into 2 posts so you don't have to read 1 long ass tedious post.

I like Anthony Hamilton a lot. He has a very honest, smokey kind of voice that I like.

I also love artists like:

Bill Withers (another one of my favorites)
Luther Vandross
D'Angelo
Kenneth Babyface Edmonds
Jon B.
Jodeci (pre-KC and Jojo)
112
Raphael Saddiq
Stevie Wonder
Peabo Bryson
Seal (Seal IV was excellent)
Al Green
Dru Hill (when they were together and the fat guy was singing)
Keith Sweat...

One of my favorite songs ever is "Still" by Lionel Richie. It's very sad but very good.

I've come to the conclusion that Jaheim embodies the words "Ghetto Soul". He's great too.

Damn man, you and I have the same taste in music. D'Angelo is off the chain, first album is possibly top 20 all time for me he needs to make more music too inactive. Jon B is the tightest white RB singer of all time in my opinion. Jodeci was my favorite group for several years. Rafael is vastly underrated, "All I Ask of You" is a great song.

How bout:

After 7
Eric Benet
Sam Cooke
Teddy Pendergrass
Marvin (of course)

I left yesterday in the middle of our conversation.

I love New Edition, "Can You Stand The Rain" is a top 10 love song of all time. The Gap Band is one of my all time favs as well......'Outstanding" is the best Saturday afternoon BBQ party song of all time. Hall and Oates are the ****, so many hits! Freddie Jackson you have to have flavor to bring up Freddie. "Rock Me Tonight" and "Lady" are classic jams.

How bout:

James Ingram
Jeffrey Osborne (Woo Woo Woo)
Tony Terry
R Kelly (12 Play is my top 10 albums all time)
Ronnie Milsap (don't like much country but cat has good songs)

I like James Ingram...I Don't Have The Heart is a classic. My dad actually just got Jeffrey Osbornes Ultimate Collection and its very good.

Good call on Xscape and Total. They both had a few songs that I liked (Totals Kissing You).

I used to love Whitney before she got all cracky on everybody. She has one of the best voices I've ever heard on any level.

I got some early 90's, girl heartthrob R&B groups/artists that I used to listen to as well.

Tony Tone Toni (they weren't so poppy though)
Bel Biv Devoe (Poison was the jam)
Az Yet
All 4 One
Tevin Campbell (before he went through puberty)
Hi-Five
Al B. Sure (Night and Day was the JAM!!!)

I also used to like some old school Toni Braxton stuff. I was a Billy Ocean fan (80's music gets me every time for some reason).

Dude these posts are taking me back. TTT were awesome, mostly because of Raphael but The Revival cd is a classic (It Never Rains in Southern California). BBD was off the chain, I was a dancer so their **** was great to dance to. Tevin was really good, "I'm Ready" cd is a classic. Can't believe you said Hi-Five. I have seen Hi-Five in concert like 20 times. They always played at the little blowout concerts where 17 acts play like 3 songs a piece. "Kissing Game" and "Just Can't Handle it" two of my favs.

Got a few more for you:

Terrance Trent Darby (Wishing Well and Sign Your Name)
Jermaine Stewart (We Don't Have to Take our clothes off to have a good time......OH NO!)
Roger and Zap (I wanna be your man)
Chaka Kahn
Who sang the song - I ain't much on Casanova, and me and Romeo ain't never been friends......I'm drawing a blank?

Yeah Hi-Five was the ****. Kissing Game and Quality Time were my favorites. I used to have the CD somewhere but I think I lost it...now I just have a couple random songs on my comp.

I have a bunch of Roger and Zapp on my comp...as well as a bunch of hip hop songs that sampled their songs. Computer Love and I Wanna Be Your Man are essential.

I think Casanova was by like Ultimate Chaos or something but I may be wrong.

I've been listening to some Kool and the Gang lately. Cherish, Joanna, Jungle Boogie and Summer Madness are unreal.

I got some more:

Carl Thomas (sometimes)
Case (that song Broken Glass w/ Joe is great)
Morris Day and the Time (Jungle Love is a gem)
Montell Jordan
Next
Musiq Soulchild (I hated him at first but now I like him more)
Blackstreet

Just talking about this **** makes me want to break out my Ultimate Slow Jams CD....in fact I think ill show you my track listing...you gotta tell me what you think.

Carl Thomas has one hot song it's called "Summer Rain" of his first album. He has a great voice but his songs are bunk! I love Case....you are right the song with Joe is hot! Montell was nice for a minute. I love Musiq, he's the only "Neo Soul" cat I really like.....that song "I'm not tryna pressure you, just can't stop thinkin bout you, you ain't even really gotta be my girlfriend. I just wanna know your name..........." is hot like fire. Speaking of hot like fire....how bout Aliyah. God I miss her sexy ass.

BlackStreet is another one of my alltime favs..."Before I Let You Go" put them on the map, but the reason I liked them so much is they are one of the only gropus/people that have ever remade a Stevie Wonder song and done it justice (World's in Need of Love).

I agree with you about Carl Thomas...thats why I said "sometimes". :D A lot of his stuff is really corny.

My favorite Musiq tracks are Girl Next Door, Sunny, and Halfcrazy.

Blackstreet was tight for a grip. I actually screwed up with one of my exes a long time ago and tried to apologize by singing "Don't Leave Me" on her answering machine. Needless to say it worked and I've loved Blackstreet ever since...haha. They also have a very good song on The Wood soundtrack called Think About You.

Speaking of doing Stevie Wonder songs justice...have you ever heard Donnell Jones' spin on Knocks Me Off My Feet? He does a very good job and I think Stevie would be proud of it. Donnell is very talented, sings, produces, plays his own music mostly...

Aaliyah was very good. It's sad that shes gone because she was very young and very talented. It helped that she was hot too. Certainly better than Ashanti and Ciara....

Alright I'm gonna try and find my slow jams compilation.

I need to grab some of Donnell's stuff. I had that one cd of his that blew up back in like 1999 or so, and I really liked his style but haven't heard much since. I will definitely look for that Stevie remake.
