Heavyweights Oleg Platov (28-1, 22 KO, BoxRec #25, age 27) vs. Kubrat Pulev (7-0, 5 KO, BoxRec #31, age 28) this Saturday.

Could this be a dangerous fight for Pulev? Platov is aggressive and has decent power, although he's smaller than Kubrat.

Anybody have any thoughts on this one?

Kubrat Pulev has an impressive resume for someone who turned pro 7 months ago.

Skelton KO 4
Batchelder KO 2
Oloukun W 8

Now he's fighting a prime Oleg Platov (when an established heavyweight like David Tua is wasting his time with a shot Monte Barrett, and Alexander Povetkin is fighting bums like Sergio Mora).

LOL i knew it was a Tunney thread.
Is it in the Floyd VS Mosley undercard?

I think it's a good fight for both, they're both prospects but Pulev has the most potential out of the two, and Platov the most experience as a pro. I think Pulev will win.

Yeah he is doing well, THIS guy should be fighting people like Monte Barett, not Tua

No, it's on the Minto-Huck card.

I'm liking what I see from Pulev so far. He's extremely calm in there, doesn't get overexcited and has some serious pop. Also, he's pretty coordinated for his size. Nice to see a guy not filling his resume with cans for a change. Fighting a guy who just beat Brewster after two fights and a guy two years off a world title challenge after four is just insane.

Don't know much about Platov, but I'm expecting Pulev to win.

Minto/Huck should be a pretty good scrap. CW is the place Minto should be fighting.

Barrett has like 3 wins in his last 9 fights. Not sure how much a win over him means these days.

Yes, Minto was too small for HW.

I hope Chambers moves down to CW too, and I hope Rakhim Chakhkiev doesn't move up to HW like Chagaev and Ibragimov did after fine achievements in the amateurs in the "under 200" category. Cruiserweight would be a loaded division if these guys fought there instead of becoming fatties at HW.

Germany has some pretty decent fight cards these days. I wish I could go over there and experience the 'boxing scene.'

As for Pulev, he's a good hw prospect who's taking on quality opponent after quality and hope it pays off for him a year or two...

Did Oleg pull out? Boxrec.com shows Pulev fighting his original opponent.

Platov has apparently pulled out of a fight again. Well Orlov is not very good, but it's better than staying inactive.

Definitely. Yeah I realize that CW is not a high paying division, but I think that would change if there were more top fighters engaged in competitive fights. Kinda weird how Ibragimov retired so early.

Hucks going to have his work cut out for him with Minto, who was giving Arreola some pretty good work there for a while. I'll have to give Chakhkiev a look.

That's pretty unfortunate. Orlov is 6'9", but a step down from the guys Pulev has been fighting. Pulev looks like he could be about 3 or 4 fights away from a title shot if he's matched right. This fight isn't getting him there.

LOL @ Pulev's replacement opponent. That guy makes Chris Arreola look like a dedicated gymnast...

I kind of hope he does. I also would like CW to get attention and thrive but it didn't under Gomez, Jirov, Toney, didn't under Haye or Adamek etc and realize that it isn't going to happen.

Vitali will retire within 1 year i imagine and Volodymyr within the next 2 or 3 so the division will be pretty wide open and aside from Pulev (6'4 1/2) and maybe Helenius (6'6) there aren't any good big HW's.

Chakhkiev would not have a big size disadvantage vs the top of the division and his power looks insane.

Chakhkiev's most recent fight from last weekend i think.

His opponent had to be carried out on a stretcher.

there are 2 or 3 other fights under "chakhkiev" on youtube.

No one ever looks good against Orlov.

Kubrat started slowly in the first couple of rounds as usual, but after the 4th when he was pushed down from Orlov, he became more aggressive. In the 5th and 6th rounds Pulev threw some good combinations, but Orlov made it messy with clinches and illegal tactics.
