View Full Version : New to boxing need tips pls.
wanabeboxer1 06-09-2005, 07:56 PM Hi I just found a group of kids in my neighborhood and we started boxing tournaments in out back yards. I beat some of the kids and loose to otheres. I am also the most musculer. I know its not just about muscle but fighting skills. I keep boxing this one skinnyer kid and ill like try to stay in a stance and jab n hook and stuff but he just runs at me and punches at face and i end up puting gloves over face geting hit. Some people just tell me keep up stance and hit in face but when hes swinging like that its not to easy. Can anyone give me any boxing tips like : how to punch faster or harder, how to punch, combos, how to hit him when he swings alot, how to not run out of breathe so fast and more. It would be appreciated thanks.

Sir Fancylot 06-09-2005, 08:03 PM Heres the thing
Join a gym.
wanabeboxer1 06-09-2005, 08:05 PM I already go to the gym to work out and get stronger in shape. And I have a job. I dont have time for a boxing gym also. I just need some nice tips on how to do some stuff or not run out breathe so fast and other things i listed.
Sir Fancylot 06-09-2005, 08:06 PM The only way to get better is to train good n regular.
wanabeboxer1 06-09-2005, 08:08 PM I understand but he dont train or anything but he like crushes me. Im so much bigger but he just swings so fast and I tend to turn around or kinda duck and put hands up and get a beating and when i try to stay facing him in the face i always get decked like tons on the nose and **** please any opinions on that?
Sir Fancylot 06-09-2005, 08:09 PM He's quicker than you, so you need to dominate him with power, if you're doing it ina ring push him into the corners and overwhelm him, though really you shouldn't fight without a ref.
wanabeboxer1 06-09-2005, 08:11 PM sorry were not in a ring we are outside. I understand i got the power its just when i run at him hitting her runs back at me and we both aim for face but usualy i dont connect and I tend to look down or turn around and get crushed. Every time i just try look them in face while were boxing i always get hit in face. People keep telling me to stop backing up and stuff but i dont know wut else to do when there like charging you.
Sir Fancylot 06-09-2005, 08:13 PM Outthink him, if you just charge at eachother it isn't boxing.
If he runs towards you, cover up and keep him off with your jab.
Try working his body over as he won't expect that if he is used to head blows.
wanabeboxer1 06-09-2005, 08:14 PM It's so weird though u see boxers never run at each other they always just like jab around and try combos and ****. These kids tend to run around hitting and crap and i try to stand grounds and job and combo but when they run at u swinging like crazy its hard as heck to hit in face.
Sir Fancylot 06-09-2005, 08:16 PM It isn't necessary to hit them in the head, Mix it up a bit.
Bob and weave and always stay on your toes as to not get hit standing still, if you're moving backwards or even up and down when he hits it will hurt less.
wanabeboxer1 06-09-2005, 08:16 PM I try to jab to keep him off but its like he dont even care hell run i might get 1 little jab in mayb or hit his arm and hell start swinging... wut shud i do
Sir Fancylot 06-09-2005, 08:18 PM Like i said, keep moving, blind him with a double jab then throw a straight or even a nice big haymaker.
Just analyse his style, then overcome it.
wanabeboxer1 06-09-2005, 08:20 PM I see but about the dodgeing thing i try to duck and move head away but when they are like right on you like a foot away swinging tons of punches u cant move out of all of them
Sir Fancylot 06-09-2005, 08:22 PM Well, move back or if you're really trapped, cover up and he'll tire.
I hope you're using headguards, backyard fighting really isnt recommended.
Gattz187 06-09-2005, 08:26 PM i was in the same sitution. I got the kid gased out cause he was throw wild punches. The thing i did was get on the inside and make my hooks and uppers short.
Dr.Depravity 06-09-2005, 09:06 PM Untill you learn more skills this may help. Use your uppercut when he charges in. That wont work everytime though. Take no shame in tieing him up. (clinch) while clinching dig your chin into his trapazoid muscle, Use your head and lean on him. After a bit of this he will be more cautious about charging in.
BennyP 06-09-2005, 11:02 PM get a speed bag and a jump rope...they usually come in the same kit. Usually about 60 dollars. I got one the other day. Takes time and patience but its now two weeks later and I'm much quicker with my hands speed and accurate.
Zab Super Judah 06-10-2005, 12:14 AM sorry were not in a ring we are outside. give him the 1 2 ..its always good anyone that rushes u like a wild man especially a kid smaller then u just jab and then straight right
Super_Lightweight 06-10-2005, 02:24 AM Peep this buddy. I'm a 3 yr amateur boxer, and here's a little something I learned from my uncle who went 350-9 in the amateurs. This is good for beginners, and everyone really.
1) When they charge you, get low, while keeping your hands up on either side of your chin/cheek to guard.
2) To get low, instead of dipping your head and looking at the ground, keep your eyes on your opponent.
3) When you duck and get low, bend at the knees.
4) Also, to counter-attack a charging young buck like the ones you are fighting, throw hard rights hand to the body as they come in and as you are getting low. When you get low I mean really get low and keep your head moving in order to make a harder target. When you duck you should be low enough so that your chin is about in line with their waste. Get it?
Summary: Let them charge you, and as they come, get low, hands up to protect yourself, duck using your knees, and blast them with a hard, straight, quick punch to the gut.
DO NOT just turn your head down. You will still get hit, and I'm sure you have seen this by now. Bend your KNEES and get low, line your chin with their waste as you are ducking when they charge...also, get some hooks in there when they are inside on you. Blast a left hook to the body then the head, consecutively. Ignore their offense when you do this, because if they are punching when you are punching, they will get hurt. You are the bigger fighter so press the issue. Don't let them beat up on you on the inside, because that's your domain from now on.
I've repeated myself a million times one what to do to counter these fools, so you better do it and report back! (^_^) :boxing:
simeraksou 06-10-2005, 01:40 PM first of all, you shouldn't be boxing unsupervised in your backyard and I hope you're at least using headgear. secondly, don't move straight back on a charging opponent, circle to the opponent's side. it looks like your opponent is quicker than you so you're gonna have to use short straight punches
jabsRstiff 06-10-2005, 01:54 PM Get to a boxing gym.
Cut out the other gym work, & BE TAUGHT how to box...or forget about ever beating this kid.
We can sit here all day & tell you to throw this & that....but if no one shows you how to throw this & that, PROPERLY....you'll just keep getting housed by the wild boy.
