Why do people celebrate Christmas? Is it because they want to spend time with family and friends or is it to celebrate the birth of Jesus eventhough Jesus was never born on that day?

I often consider this throughout the year. But when Christmas Eve comes, and the wine, Irish Coffee, Egg Nog, Beer and Gin starts flowing and the Turkey is smoked to perfection at my family's dinner......Then I don't care why.

Christmas to me means spending time with family and friends especially those I haven't seen in a long time. We know Jesus was never born that day, so we don't mention it.

So although he wasn't born that day, you celebrate it anyway? Is that what you've been taught? Religion is a dogma.

Yo, Alpha can you get rid of the avatar...it's really starting to freak me out and I fear that if I look at it after eating, I might lose my lunch. Thanks...

..and if you don't want to go and get rid it, could you atleast change it to something a little more subtle. Like this.

The actual day of Jesus' birth is insignificant in the celebration of His birth, because we are not commanded to, nor are we commanded not to observe it. Those of us who do, choose to do it as a special remembrance of the "Gift of God". The Bible does not specify the exact date of Jesus' birth and there is no clear evidence of the exact date. This is likely due to the fact that in those ancient times people were more likely to observe an important peraons date of death rather than the birth. Furthermore, The evidence is against him being born 2005 years ago. It's more likely that he was born in 7AD.

But what the **** does it matter. My daughter had a birthday a couple weeks ago but do to circumstance we are celebrating it this week. It doesn't make the celebration any less special.

And sure it is also a great day to spend time with family.
