What's the deal with boxing gloves today? Why do fighters, trainors, referees insist on putting so much tape on the gloves? White tape, duct tape, red tape; they put so much on it looks as though it would cut a fighters circulation off! With all that tape around the boxing gloves,it has forced the makers of the gloves to now put the name on the hand part of the glove rather than just the wrist part.
I miss the days when you could see the brand name of the gloves on the wrist part. Think: Ali,Leornard and Hagler,Holmes, and early Tyson eras. Question; why so much tape around gloves?

I'm reserecting my own thread that I thought was half decent. You guys care to comment, or should I let this thread die a quick and painless death?

I am indifferent to the logos, colors, etc on a boxing glove. As long as both fighters use the same weight, that would be all I am concerned with.

I like the way they are nowadays. I like the grant boxing logo in particular. As far as what you said about the tape around the gloves, yeah it does look pretty funny, especially with bigger gloves.

Does the boxing commissions require that the gloves are taped? And does it make the glove more comfortable to the fighter?

on more than one occasion, i've cut and been cut by laces.
taping that **** up stops that from happening.
i can't imagine having laces all over the place is legal, so,
i'm gonna guess that pros are required to tape up the gloves.
as for comfort, i've always found it more comfortable to be
nice and tight. then again, to each his/her own.

I like the look of the old gloves better, but I'd lean towards the "if it's a good fight it doesn't matter".
I like Larry's gloves in your avatar.
