View Full Version : Help... Bloody noses
jctree2003 06-06-2005, 09:52 AM Hello,
I have a question I was hoping ya'll could help me with. My husband has been boxing for a couple months. Every time he spares or fights he gets a bloody nose. I'm wondering if theres anything we can do to prevent it or stop it once it starts. He's really good and I'm afraid that his fights will be stopped because of his nose. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Sir Fancylot 06-06-2005, 10:00 AM The only thing i could suggest is weaving like a bastard as to not get hit square in the nose.
Without seeing him fight, i really couldn't tell you
jctree2003 06-06-2005, 10:03 AM It doesnt matter how much bobing and weaving he does, One jab can make his nose bleed. He hasnt been hurt yet, his nose just bleeds when he gets hit. I don't know what to do.
Sir Fancylot 06-06-2005, 10:08 AM Well, perhaps a medical examination is in order?
other than that i really don't know.
jctree2003 06-06-2005, 10:16 AM lol... thanks i appreciate it. I just dont want him to be stopped for bloody nose when he isnt even hurt. ya know....
Rampage* 06-06-2005, 10:34 AM i'm pretty sure there is something that a doctor does and it helps it. Someone in my boxing club had it done, it helped quite a bit, but you have to have it done regularly.
jctree2003 06-06-2005, 10:44 AM Can you find out what it was that they did? I would greatly appreciate it.
Hunna 06-06-2005, 12:26 PM normally, ur nose membranes harden up, after ya 1st first spars and fites, but some people just continue to bleed. shouldnt worry bout fites being stopped over blood nose, his trainer should be well equipped to deal with that.
triggerhappy 06-06-2005, 03:09 PM you can start by leaveing your husband and geting with a real man like me who dose'nt bleed like a bitch
jctree2003 06-06-2005, 03:31 PM you can start by leaveing your husband and geting with a real man like me who dose'nt bleed like a bitch
LMAO! Bleeding doesnt make you a bitch. Everybody bleeds at one point or another in their life. If you havent yet then wait at one point you will.
Hunna, thanks. He's only been in it for 3 months. He normally spares with a heavyweight so I'm sure that doesnt help much. I was worried cause amateurs are so strict on the rules. And sometimes he'll barely get hit and his nose will just keep bleeding.

Some people need to know the difference between machismo and arrogance.
jctree2003 06-06-2005, 03:44 PM Amen to that!
Sir Fancylot 06-06-2005, 04:08 PM Anyway, my father was a fighter, and he had a friend with the same problem, over time it eases apparently, so give it another month or two.
jctree2003 06-06-2005, 04:13 PM Thanks... I'm hoping so. He's good so I'd hate for him to not be able to fight cause of a nose bleed.
boxer Of thE World 06-06-2005, 05:34 PM Ok here you go. You go to the doctor ask him if your husband could be corterized what it is, is a burning of the tissue and depending of the sucess of the operation he may never have a bloody nose again or maybe just once and a while but not often.

I found this and thought I would post it here. I don't know if it works or not but it's natural, so obviously a better choice then cauterization. So If anybody has a problem with nosebleeds too, it might work for you.
and11200 06-11-2005, 01:10 PM Is your husband on any medications or does he take any supplements? From my own experience, it was allergy medicine that was causing bloody noses. It had to do with the chemicals in the pill. I know its a far shot, but I thought I'd add my $0.02 :)
Tha Greatest 06-11-2005, 02:22 PM Luckily...I have never EVER had a nosebleed in my life and ive sparred lots of times n got hit square in the nose...
I hope it stays that way.....
hitman7hearns7 06-11-2005, 03:52 PM it just takes time for your nose to set
once u,v cracked it or gotten a nose bleed were it had done a bit of damage just work through it after a couple months it will set , then it will never bleed unless its broken!!1
Hunna 06-11-2005, 08:49 PM amatuers are more strict on nose bleeds and those type of matters all together. Pro's are more lenient e.g. gatti v. ward, DLH v. Vargas... blood baths
ricecrispi 06-12-2005, 06:43 AM It might be a small blood vessel that popped but he hasn't let it close up. If it's a small bleed that shows up everyday its a small one. Tell him to stop sparring a week or so to let heal. No contact to the nose.
first 3 days it clots and you need to clean it out. Get q-tips, fluffy ones, or use tissues and wet them and clean it slightly everyday. I mean very gently, you don't want it to open the clot and start over.
If it still bleeds after a week or so take him to a doc to see it.
don't be too worried, some guys just bleed all the time, thats the way there noses are made. Mine never did even when it got hit. My bro gets them just in dry weather.
If it bother you tell him to spar less and do his workouts.

thats a fascinating link.i suffer from nosebleeds too so im gonna give this a try.thanks
chopper77 08-03-2005, 02:37 PM I don't think I ever sparred, or fought where my nose didn't bleed. Big deal. I probably should have learned to duck more efficiently.
rocco1252 08-03-2005, 03:02 PM I Found That Although People Say It's Dangerous For Long Term Having Your Nose Cauterized It Works Wonders, My Friend Had Nose Bleeds On A Daily Basis With And Without Getting Hit In The Nose And The Only Think That Stopped It Was Getting His Nose Cauterized. Good Luck To Your Husband And His Bleeds
12 Gauge Shotty 08-03-2005, 03:58 PM EH my nose never bleeds lol i dont think it can never in my whole life has it ever started to bleed :boxing:
12 Gauge Shotty 08-03-2005, 04:00 PM and oh yeh rocco i know the best boxer ever better then all ov them hes called henry cooper ever heard of him?? he beat muhammed ali! :p
mschatz 08-06-2005, 04:29 PM They arent going to stop the fight over a bloody nose unless its broken. Cuts over the eye is a different story. I think someone mentioned it already, but your body actually gets used to being hit after a while. call it microevolution if you will, but if he continues to fight and get hit in the face, he will start to bleed less
