View Full Version : is it good to working out 5 days out of 7?
azn_violater 06-06-2005, 08:22 AM i usually workout out 2 hours a day from monday0 through friday, resting a day in between because i run the mile for P.E. on one of those days. and on weekends i rest saturday and workout sunday. is it healthy? if your wondering what kind of workouts i do, i do stuff with weights and etc.
Sir Fancylot 06-06-2005, 08:53 AM Typically i work out around 4-6 days a week, but usually with weights every OTHER day so your muscles have time to recover etc. Its a good idea to alternate between Aerobic and muscle building excercise if you're going to work out most of the week.
So really, it all depends on your programme.

Same here, but due to my job and real life constraints, I can't do a "full-time" (more or less) boxing program like some of the other guys around my gym. I do my roadwork in the morning, and then switch off between cardio & bagwork and cardio & weights. I train only six days a week so I don't burn out...
Hunna 06-06-2005, 12:33 PM athletes in general still dont realise need for rest, training 6 days a week is full on . physically and pyschologcially draining. IF u do train, 6 days a week, ur daily intake would have to be quite large, to constantly refuel and repair. Sometimes, a bike ride or game of footy or soccer, swim at a beach, is just as good as a workout, ya still exercising, but also, having fun, also its mentally stimulating. Its important 2 have other interests aswell, in particular outdoor activities.
Dyl-G 06-06-2005, 07:28 PM i work out 6 times a week and rest sunday and i dont lift weights, so id sa your OK
abdiel2k3 06-06-2005, 07:30 PM work out everyday for 2hrs
cept Sats cuz of fights
sometimes i take fris off to when theres good fights
dizzy 06-09-2005, 12:17 PM Yeah 2 days off is plenty. Just dont over do it, got a hernia from overtraining last year.
PunchDrunk 06-09-2005, 01:34 PM I'd say try it for 4 weeks, and see how you feel after that. If you feels stronger, and your results are better, you're ready to step it up a little. If you feel tired and heavy, you might want to tone it down a little. Listen to your body. Everyone's different.

PunchDrunk, you seem to have a lot of knowledge about the game..
Are you currently pro or have you been in the past?

Never been pro. I've been fighting amateur since I was 12, I'm now 32, so I guess I've seen a few things anyway. :)
I have some experience as a trainer, and that's my main thing now. I really want to be the best at this, so I'm studying all aspects of training real hard. I have the best education you can get in Denmark, for physical trainers on the elite level, and I train a bunch of the best amateurs in the country, together with a former pro trainer. I'd say my strength as a coach would mainly be the physical/scientific aspect of training, since the other stuff mostly comes from years of coaching experience (and talent, of course ;)), and I'm fairly new as a trainer.
Since I definitely underachieved as a fighter, I'm determined to be the best trainer I can be, and I really want to do my part to lift the sport in this country. It really needs it!!

Well, then you would know better than anybody else if it's too much or not. Does it work for you? Are you progressing towards your goals, stagnating or going backwards?
If you're progressing, but it feels easy, then you could probably increase your intensity or volume of training, and prrogress even more.
If you're stagnating, you should probably train more, eat better or get more sleep.
If you're going backwards, you're overtraining.
But only YOU know how your training is going, so you need to figure out if you're getting anywhere. :)
