View Full Version : NWO: Andre Berto (If He Wins)
MurderDeathKill 04-09-2010, 02:57 PM Tomorrow night Berto defends against Quintana. Already saw he's got a rematch clause, so if he loses they go to a 2nd fight. But for the purpose of this thread, let's say he wins, decisively enough, or in a boring fight, that nobody wants to see again. What happens next for this guy?
He was geared for Mosley before an understandable withdrawal. Good sign that he's done milking his belt and wants to step up. What fight would y'all in NWO want him to pursue, and which fight do you think he'd pursue?
Collazo is still waiting for his rematch. It's overdue imo.
Whoever has the IBF WW belt is an unknown, but an easy target if Berto if he did want a soft fight coming off a win here.
Shane-Floyd might go to a rematch since Pac-Floyd looks dead for good. If it doesn't, we know Shane was gonna fight Berto before. Surely Shane still would if he couldn't get Pac.
If Floyd wins in May and can't get Pac, would Floyd fight him?
Pac would face Shane if he beats Floyd, but without that he's looking at Margarito. Only leg up Berto has there is he's one more guy with a belt. See any chance at all of Pac-Berto?
I seriously hope Clottey is done getting title shots for a while. He might go to 154. But he could have the 9 lives Judah blessing and get another chance.
Clegg 04-10-2010, 12:06 PM As a Kell Brook fan I'd like to see that fight happen :)
But realistically I would say Margarito, provided he can still make 147.
I think he'll probably face Judah though, who HBO seem obsessed with having him lose to any world champion on their network.
I'm not that interested in a Collazo rematch. I know a lot of people thought Berto lost that one, and it was an entertaining fight, but I'd like to see them both go after other opponents, mainly because I find new style matchups more entertaining than rematches in most cases.
I think Floyd came back with the Pac fight in mind, and I would be surprised if he hangs around much longer if he can't get Pac in the ring. He's 33 now and will start to decline sooner rather than later, and I think he's aware of that. Maybe the Al Haymon situation would stop that fight happening as well? Not sure how the law/rules work on that.
As long as Mosley doesn't look too bad against Floyd then I'd still like to see him face Berto.
MANGLER 04-10-2010, 03:18 PM If Berto beats CQ, I still want that SSM fight. I was lookin forward to that ****. Thing is, SSM-Floyd might go to a rematch even if Floyd wins, cuz I don't think the Pac fight is happenin either. Floyd could beat Berto, but probably wouldn't get enuf $ outta that fight to bother wit it.
Demand for Collazo rematch has fizzled out, but I'd still luv to see it. I think Berto would press for SSM, but will settle for Collazo if he can't get SSM for whatever reason.

I'm fine with a Collazo rematch.
To hell with the IBF guy, whoever he is.
I lust the Mosley fight though. I was really disappointed that one didn't go through.
PBF won't fight Berto.
I wouldn't mind Pac-Berto, but fat chance that fight happens.
Clottey gets nothing.
As for Clegg's mention of Margarito, I like that fight. I highly doubt Berto's team will allow it though. Arum will push for Pac-Margarito if Shane loses to PBF. I'm pretty sure Berto will end up facing Mosley if he beats Quintana.
MANGLER 04-11-2010, 04:06 AM Rethinkin the SSM-Berto thing now. Even if SSM was comin off a loss to Mayweather, he'd rape Berto, and Dibella knows it. Maybe if SSM lost and looked really old they'd do it.

I just hope they put him in there with a live threat. I don't want to see him against Alfonso Gomez or some ****.

Nobody else at WW really but the guys mentioned in here. Zab is back to 140 or I'm sure he'd be the go to guy. I say just rematch Collazo, anotha guy who ain't a stiff but ain't quite elite. Sellable fight too since the 1st one was pretty good.
Clyde Barrow 04-11-2010, 05:09 PM I wasn't at all impressed by Berto's showing yesterday. It's a respectable win, but not a performance that convinces me he's ready to tackle any of the big 3 if given the chance. Shane, Pac, and PBF all beat him handily, and Shane and Pac would KO him.
Now Berto needs another assessment test. Put him in with Collazo again. He arguably beat Berto anyway. He's southpaw who brings movement like Carlos did, but is quicker to the draw and has a better chin. If Berto can get a decisive win over him, let him swim with the big fish if an opportunity is there.
MurderDeathKill 04-12-2010, 03:16 PM Just took a look at the WBC rankings for 147 at their website. Here's the names that I recognized:
1. Mayweather
2. Collazo
4. Alvarez
6. Abregu
7. Gomez
8. Witter
10. Lujan
So theoretically, Berto can fight any of these guys next and it would be deemed as acceptable. If GBP is already talking about Alvarez vs Mayweather in 2 years or something, maybe they'd put him in with Berto. I don't know if Saul's ready for that yet. Collazo might be fighting an eliminator with some Turkish fighter, but it's not confirmed. Berto would really get **** on fighting any of the back half of the top 10. If Collazo can get a shot without having to fight the eliminator, I think that's Berto's next fight.

Collazo makes the most sense. Make it happen.
Walt Liquor 04-14-2010, 11:22 AM Did ya'll not hear the Cotto rumors. For crying out loud- Cotto! That's almost as bad as Judah.
Btw, I would love to se him fight Collazo again, I love their style matchup.
I see Berto moving along fairly quickly now. Here is who I don't see him fighting:
PBF
Manny
Margs
I think his team will still fight Shane, especially if Shane looks slow vs Floyd.
bridger1 05-08-2010, 06:59 PM now shane has fought and looked bad do you think that berto mosley will happen?
if not what do you people think of berto vs clottey, i think that could be interesting.
judah said on the boxing truth radio that he isnt going up to 147

Shane-Berto is the fight to be made for both guys. Berto will likely feel extra confident with Shane coming off a bad loss.
Berto-Clottey would be ok if Clottey wasn't coming off a shutout loss to Pac where he didn't even try, plus a loss to Cotto, though it was very close. He don't deserve 3 title shots in a row, especially after that Pac travesty. I don't want him getting hooked up, but if Berto don't face Shane, it'll do.
And oh yeah, mother**** Zab Judah.
Clegg 05-08-2010, 07:09 PM I doubt Clottey gets another big fight. He's good enough to make people look bad but not good enough to be the best and not a big enough name to generate much $$$ for his opponent. He'll have to work his way back up if he is to ever get another shot, unless Arum puts him in with Foreman down the line perhaps.
I think Berto will probably face Shane within the next year. I doubt he gets Pac/Floyd and I doubt he'd want Williams/Margarito/Cotto.

berto-bradley is looking to be a possibility as well.
Clyde Barrow 07-09-2010, 05:34 PM So what the hell is Berto doing now? Does he have a mandatory set up or something? I'd forgotten all about him.
MANGLER 07-22-2010, 03:02 AM I thought SSM-Berto could still be made after SSM lost to Floyd, but now he's fightin Mora. Berto is too low on the totem pole to get Pac or Floyd too, so I dunno whats left for him right now.
Clegg 07-22-2010, 04:08 AM I hope he gets a move on whatever he does. Too many young talents sitting out for 6+ months at a time.
Cintron and Berto are both with DiBella, I think? If so they should make that fight.

Why the hell not? Forgot about ol' Kermit after the leapfrog incident. Whatever was going on with him and Sturm fell flat, so if he can still make 147, this fight will work out just fine. Berto's all dressed up with nothing to do since Mosley is fighting Mora.
MANGLER 12-22-2010, 02:30 AM Berto's stuck wit the best of the rest.
The other 2 dudes wit WW belts are overseas. Berto won't **** wit that long as stupidass HBO is gonna pay him for mismatches here. I wouldn't have minded him fightin Pac but I knew that **** wasn't gonna happen.
Paulie just moved to WW and stopped some dude, so watch that fight get made now. Nothin happenin for Berto unless he wants to give Clottey a shot, and last I heard he was movin up.
