I don't like all of Lupe's stuff but I have to admit the guy managed to create an image for himself while keeping substance in his music. He has some songs nothing shorter from great.

yea thats a great example of his talents, and i'll admit im not a huge fan of his first release "food and liquor".. i think his mixtapes are dope and i love "the cool"
who do you listen to?
Tuggers1986 04-06-2010, 07:37 PM Lupe has been my favourite rapper since I first heard Food & Liquor in 2006. I just wish more people bought his albums so he finally got the credit he deserves
He trusted his talent would shine through so didn't lie about the fact that he skateboards, reads comics or collects action figuers. I love that! I read a good review on Lupe and a part it in was so true...
"Wasalu Muhammad Jaco is obsessed with what's cool, but oddly enough, he's not obsessed with BEING cool. Oddly enough that's the thing that makes him so damn cool after all. The truly cool don't need to follow trends or NOT follow trends to be cool, they EXUDE cool by being in touch with their inner and letting it shine through to their outer. Lupe Fiasco is undoubtedly one of "The Coolest" rappers to come along in the last ten years. If you're too cool to get down with "The Cool" because you think he's some nerdy Chi-Town backpacking skateboard rapper, then you ain't cool at all."
If life goes passin you by
Don't cry
If you're breaking the rules
making your moves
paying your dues
Chasing the cool

Tuggers1986 04-06-2010, 07:44 PM good ****.. yea he's not afraid to be himself, which i admire
I'm surprised you dont like Food & Liquor. I LOVED that album and still do. I worried when he was releasing The Cool incase it wasn't as good. Luckily for me it was, if not slightly better. I feel the same way now in anticipation for LASERS (which is being released mid May by the way). I hope its on the same level as his other stuff.
But anyway... back to Food and Liquor... two of my fav Lupe tracks he's ever done...

i thought it was an ok album.. the thing with lupe is i heard his mixtape stuff and there was all this hype built up and when i heard food and liquor i was a little dissapointed. its a solid album because of the different messages and the beats are ok, but i just wasn't feelin it like i did with the cool.
my fav tracks off food and liquor are the instrumental, american terrorist and the cool

I love american terroist. The first verse is amazing. I actually think that track gets overlooked quite a lot considering how good it is.
we came through the storm
nooses on our necks
and a smallpox blanket to keep us warm
on a 747 on the pentagon lawn
wake up, the alarm clock is connected to a bomb
anthrax lab on a west Virginia farm
shorty ain't learned to walk
already heavily armed
civilians and little children is especially harmed
camouflaged Torahs, Bibles and glorious qurans
the books that take you to heaven and let you meet the Lord there
have become misinterpreted, reasons for warfare
we read 'em with blind eyes I guarantee you there's more there
the rich must be blind because they didn't see the poor there
need to open up a park, just close 10 schools
we don't need 'em
can you please call the fire department
they're down here marching for freedom
burn down their TV's, turn their TV's on to teach 'em

give yellow man tool, make him railroad builder
also give him pan, make him pull gold from river give black man crack, glocks and things, give red man

MARKBNLV 04-07-2010, 05:55 AM eh thats ****s to light for me.
The Beatles 04-07-2010, 06:00 AM i like little weapon.....
mos def and lupe are the best...no doubt

who do you listen to?
Eh a bit of everything, the all time greats like Rakim and Nas and KRS, bit of Mob Deep, Gangstarr, House of Pain, Mos Def, Blackstar, Dilated Peoples, and some of the underground like Immortal Technique, Aesop, Zion I, Deltron 3030, lots to mention :hijacked:
black.ink 04-07-2010, 10:21 AM These guys are skilled for sure, and probably the best of the current crop including Mos and Talib, but they will not make the impact needed to lift rap from the abyss.
Look at the persona's of the past, Pac, Biggie, Jay, KRS etc. They all had huge personalities that made them smash into the music scene. The likes of Rakim, Nas, Mos et al got by through skill, but many go unnoticed.
The guys Tuggers listed will definitely get respect, but sadly it will be more critical success they achieve as they don't have that mainstream appeal the greats i previously mentioned carried. Think along the lines of ATCQ, Pharcyde, Black sheep etc...
Mickey Gomez 04-07-2010, 02:33 PM You forgot Black Milk and EMC

Ya Boy been one of the best in the game for a couple years IMO. But he hasn't gotten his due. But he just signed with Akon's label so you will definatley see him in the future.
Tuggers1986 04-07-2010, 06:50 PM Ya Boy is good but all the **** he's talking about is sooooo boring!! Its been said and done a million times.
"Cali I got it locked up, all my ni99az glocked up, so you dont need a UPS slip to get boxed up"
The reason I think the four I mentioned deserve to run hip hop is because not only are they unbelievably talented but they've got something new to say. A breath of fresh air to a rap game that has stunk of **** for a number of years now.
Tuggers1986 04-07-2010, 06:52 PM And if you wanna talk about emcee's who just talk alot about money, women, being nice etc... nobody is touching Royca Da 5'9'' IMO.

brooklyn33 04-19-2010, 12:22 AM Its soo real, it touches every corner of the globe, because hip-hop and Rapp is an expression of oneself!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unlike that fake ass 80s rock, look how those guys took a nose dive, because they were fake, they were rockin from the heart!!!!!! Hip-hop and Rapp are things that use memory and story telling, that is an African thing, so in order to get rid of hip-hop, you would naturally have to get rid of an entire race and even then, the culture is so huge that it will never die!!!!!!!!!!

Elzhi's verse >>>>> Royces verse, also heard he was lacking on that Slaughterhouse album
Savino 04-21-2010, 08:46 AM Lupe my favorite rapper. still listen to his albums and they still sound fresh.
CaRnAgEViOLaToR 04-22-2010, 01:45 PM As good as 4 of those are...Slaughterhouse is the best in the game right now...Joe Budden being #1 IMO.
Floyd Sinclair 04-22-2010, 03:45 PM Sorry to say but honestly, all four of these rappers put me to sleep. I dont see what the buzz is about any of them. I came in the door nineteen eighty four
Paint on the wall, got chased by the law
Once got soul in the place full of flow
Was never given the zone had to create my own
As clean as the nose on my face that I placed on the stone
Had to stake my claim to the throne
Ali is soo underrated

hhs661 04-24-2010, 11:48 AM All 4 are great however Jay Elect needs to stop ****ing around and drop Act II or a new song or a new mixtape. He's lazier then T-Mac's eye. Lupe's starting to annoy me with the lack of music he's putting out...1st it's LUPEnd, then The Great American Rap Album and now it's Lasers..I mean, c'mon FNF..Name the album anything and just drop some dope ****.
Blu is my dude...Been a fan of his since J&J and obviously BTH. I think he needs to get back in the studio with Exile and drop another BTH type album. His mixtapes have been solid but he's still very young and has time to grow as an artist.
J.Cole is cool..I dig the style he brings but I'm not up on his music yet. I'm really checking for this dude named Pill from the A and B.o.B of course. Hip Hop hasn't ever been as bad as people make it out to be. It's not what it was in the 90s, but it's never been dead or on life support. The future of Hip Hop is looking great both in the mainstream and underground...
and C/S whoever put those Brother Ali vids up...The blind albino is that dude. Rhymesayers probably has the best roster in the game right now

you're correct my little 45-post count e-friend. rhymesayers have the underground locked. just with slug, murs, ali and eyedea they kill the game.
