Man that is just disrespectfull, if his doctor says he may go blind becasue his vision is getting bad then he would be a moron to keep doing it, no one is immortal it sucks that you have to quit but i don't blame you one bit.

Chavez, go check with another doctor to see if it's true first...

If theres a big possibility of goin blind theres no point cuz you will get blind....if you're gonna get blind by just takkin a few punches, then don't do it....

If theres a 1% chance, then go for it!

Some of you guys are morons. Going blind is something all boxers fear. Dempsey actually quit boxing because of the damage Tunney did to his eye. Your eyesite is more important than having some fun with an amateur career in boxing. If your doctor says you would be risking the health of your eyes, then don't do it.

I agree 100%. Boxing is one of those sports that you HAVE to be in tip top physical condition, else you are not going to make it far in the sport and have a great risk on injury, possibly permanent. Do not attempt boxing if you have physical complications such as vision, any type of condition with the brain or blood pressure, etc. It could be potentially life threatening. Pay no attention to the macho "tough guys" in here who think they are Superman and nothing will ever hurt them. Some people are gifted with having great health, while others just do not have the same type of body makeup and must take other factors into consideration.

Man, I tell ya.

I can understand someone being more unnerved by going blind, then the prospect of death.

Most people believe themselves to be immortal, that they can't die. But nobody wants to spend their life pissing on their leg.

Sir Fancylot
06-06-2005, 09:15 AM
The whole point is that he has a considerable chance of going blind.

Death in the ring isn't unheard of, but it isn't hugely common either.

Mick Hucknall

Screw that. i need to wear glasses as i struggle to see things from a distance or letters from a certain distance. I've been advised to wear glasses whilst watching tv does that mean i have a higher chance of going blind due to boxing then. That sucks but it wouldn't stop me continuing the sport. Hell no!.

im kinda with boxer but hes got a very good opinion that i support. Thats why every time i step in that ring i say a prayer. After all it is boxing comon your supposed to hit people and get hit once and a while, its for the tough if you cant live you life without fear boxing isnt for you im nearsighted to that means you cant see distances you can still the punches trow at you give it a try and go to a few different doctors and eye specialists

So how do all the near sighted boxers here fight? Do you just fight with blurred vision? Have you considered Lasik Eye Surgery? That's something I have always wondered about. I also wonder if Lasik surgery is even an option, are you able to take hits to the face after getting it?

Well, the eye surgeries aren't really 100% guaranteed to work. Your eyes can get ****ed up during those things. I'd stay away from it. (My vision is damn near perfect, though)

Let me ask this... If you were a type 1 diabetic (the most severe form that requires daily insulin shots)and had it since you were 10 years old, would you box? Better question is, will you be allowed to box with that condition. I know a guy that's around my age that was diagnosed at age 10. His condition has ****ed up his vision so he also wears glasses, but he wants to get into boxing.

Ask a doctor. No one here is going to be able to answer that.

There comes a point with everything, no matter how much you love it, you have to decide whether its worth that sort of risk to your health. If the increases are slight, then do it, if it's too high, then don't. Your health is more important than a momentarty shot at glory you'll never be able to fully appreciate. Ask McClellan if he wanted to be like he is after Benn.
