MANILA, Philippines – The best boxer in the planet today has just received a low blow from an Italian-American radio host, who described Manny Pacquiao as an “idiot” and an “illiterate.”
In his podcast, comedian Adam Carolla also poked fun at Filipinos’ devotion to the pound-for-pound king, saying such adulation—usually reflected in victory parades and empty streets each time he fought — meant only that “your country doesn’t have a lot going for it.”
“He’s gonna run for Congress in the Philippines. Really? You want some guy with brain damage running your country? Why don’t you get your sh*t together? They got this and sex tours—that’s all they have over there,” he commented.
Carolla was having a chat with a boxing fan over the aborted welterweight megafight between Pacquiao and the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. The talk later turned into some heavy bashing, with the host questioning the Filipino fighter’s refusal to agree to Mayweather’s demand for an Olympic-style blood-testing.
Pacquiao acceded to unlimited urine tests, but did not want to give blood samples so close to the fight.
“It’s a cultural thing. We don’t realize how quietly racist we all are because Pacquiao…says he doesn’t give blood the month of a fight or a week before the fight because somehow, it’s going to weaken him and what-have-you,” he said.
