Slovene boxer Dejan "Mr Simpatikus" Zavec or Jan Zaveck won the IBF welterweight title against South African Isaac Hlatshwayo on December 11, 2009 and on April 9 he faces his first title defence against Rodolfo Ezequiel Martinez.

Him becoming world champ

Heard this a while back, and as a Slovene-American I am very very proud. I'll be rooting for 'em!

BTW check out Martinez on boxingrec, he has a severly padded record and has yet to face anything other than entry-level competition. He lost to a guy who's 9-6-1 recently. Should be an easy defence to build up Jans record.

I hope it's an easy fight, he should stay on top for as long as possible to shine some light on boxing in Slovenia.

He just made his first title defence with a 12th round TKO. He was dominating the fight all 12 rounds.

I know he's just a paper champion but as long as boxing gets some coverage in Slovenia I don't care
