View Full Version : Roadwork Poll: New School v. Old School
dionysusolympus 06-03-2005, 09:56 AM This is more a matter of what shoes/boots used for roadwork, rather than about roadwork itself. I've been doing roadwork in the mornings using running shoes; however, Mr. Frazier suggested it be done using military boots.
How about you guys?

Yep, I train at his gym in North Philly. :boxing: He suggested about doing it in military boots, as opposed to running shoes. So I've been curious as to what everyone else is doing or has been told...
i run in adidas like running shoes, but if mr smoking joe frazier told me to run in military boots i would.
PunchDrunk 06-03-2005, 10:30 AM I wear modern running shoes. I don't spar with old shitty ass gloves, like they did in the old days. Getting injured kinda defeats the purpose of training....
pug1986 06-03-2005, 11:10 AM running shoes, but if joe frazier told me to run in a skirt I would do it.
PunchDrunk 06-03-2005, 11:43 AM Great going guys, don't think for yourselves. :D
blockburna944 06-03-2005, 02:38 PM I run in both kinds. combat boots are heavier and less flexible so it does give you a different feel for running. i couldnt honestly tell you if it gives you a certain edge for boxing though. just make sure that if you do get boots they fit well and you break em in a bit before you go on any long runs. best thing to do is put them on and soak in a bucket of water for a couple hours.
marvelous_TG 06-03-2005, 05:02 PM you should run with running shoes, army boots, will cause injuries like shin splits, knee injuries etc. in time. he's just old school but like doug dewitt a boxer who fought great names but lost ran in army boots and says now, if he jogs for an hour he can barley walk for a week, so be carfull.
Tha Greatest 06-03-2005, 05:26 PM I would jump off a bridge if Smokin Joe told me to...
(sarcasm)
My shin splints would pop up from time to time and when it acts up it hurts a whole lot, so no running w/ boots of any kind for me. I use to buy running shoes just for the looks but of recent years I've stuck w/ one particular brand and that is Asics and I don't mind blowing a hundred and some odd dollars on 'em either for their top style which is the gel kayano. Also depends on what type of surface you run on when I'm running on a track I just use my regular running shoes but if I'm doing some trail running I use my " trail shoes " 'cause it does make a difference. I use to wear the same pair of shoes for both track and trail running and they would wear out pretty fast so buy 2 different types of shoes for each surface.
boxstarr 06-03-2005, 06:59 PM if frazier told me to jump in front of a bus id do it...i mean after that no punches r gna hurt are they?
it wud probs improve my chin

Pugnacious_Z 06-03-2005, 08:49 PM hey, u go to fraziers gym, have u seen him hit the heavy bag, can u see how hard he punches compared to other ppl in ur gym?
I run in some good 'ole Nikes
Hunna 06-04-2005, 12:08 PM not any shoes, will do, i bought some budget $20 no name piece of Sh!t shoes, and got blisters, and shoes fell apart from running on grass! haha. 1) shoes gotta be strong like army boots 2) meant for running and strenuous stuff. nike running shoes are obviously meant for running, mind you, army boots are meant for days of walking etc... look at the soldiers in Iraq, they go for days even weeks with same pair of shoes on, whther it be running, walking jogging through the streets. If army train in them, then id definitely give em; a go
