View Full Version : Basketball Star Turns to boxing.
The Italian Stallion 06-02-2005, 02:37 PM Fourteen year NBA veteran Kendall Gill will announce his intentions to make his professional boxing debut this summer during a press conference and workout this Friday morning at 11AM at JABB Boxing Gym located at 410 N. Oakley, near the intersection of Grand and Western on Chicago's near northwest side.
Prior to speaking to the press and answering questions, the Chicago native and University of Illinois grad will show off his solid boxing skills by shadowboxing, working the mitts and hitting the speedbag.
Gill has been training at JABB for the last 18 months and says he is in the best shape of his life. "I'm taking this very seriously just like the professional approach I brought to my career in the NBA."
Said Dominic Pesoli, owner of JABB Boxing Gym, "He's been very serious about this. He wants to make his pro debut this summer and the press conference and workout is a great way to show off his skills."
------------
I've seen Gill play basketball, and he's good. Him being 37 years old isn't a good thing for his debut.
jack_the_rippuh 06-02-2005, 02:39 PM Gill as a journeyman ball player and he's going to be a journeyman fighter.

Kendell Gill was good in the NBA and in college Baksetball he played for the Illini on teh Illini Final Four Team in 1988. The guy must be pretty old.

oldgringo 06-02-2005, 02:54 PM He's one of the better defenders of the last 15 years to come through the NBA. He was sick in college...
Kendall is about what, 6'5? Which means he'll be a HW or extremely tall cruiser. He'll be KTFO against anyone who can punch.

Good point. Roy Jones was abysmal on Married...With Children.

Gill's gotta be about 36-37 already. A little late for boxing. He was a decent player in his prime.
El Jesus 06-02-2005, 07:25 PM Gill as a journeyman ball player and he's going to be a journeyman fighter.

i thought i was the only one on the planet who remembered that
thats actually how i heard of him, but the reality is, when he was with the sonics, he was a decent player, not exactly journeyman early in his career

...Yeah a gay version of Sanders maybe. Didn't Gil have some mental issues? If he did then boxing is definitely no place for the mentaly weak and he is gonna be in big trouble.
hectari 06-02-2005, 08:00 PM here he is at the jabb boxing site.

An enormous Deion. Speaking of Deion, I think he might have made a decent boxer. He would've had no power, but he could have moved faster than 90% of the guys in the ring. He had a glass jaw, too.
drez24 06-02-2005, 08:51 PM Wtf? When was he on that show?
It was during the ninth season, ill see if i can upload it. he flubs a line on the show too. you think they'd redo the take, but whatever.

Did you know that James Toney knocked Deion out in highschool?
Funny argument over "who got top bunk went bad"

Oh yes Kendal Gil had mental problems, he was diagnosed with clinical depression.
I am from Seattle and got a chance to see Gil up close...he played for the 93-94 team that won 63 regualr season games and lost in the fisrt round to the Nuggets...it still hurts to this day...
Anyway, Gil was always complaining...he was a pretty selfish player with Seattle but I will say the guy had all of the ability in the world...he was as good at creating his own shot as anyone around the problem with Kendal was his finishing skills.
Should be fun to watch his 6'6" frame fall to the canvas.

IF THATS TRUE THEN THATS F'N FUNNY
joeboxer 06-02-2005, 09:30 PM IF THATS TRUE THEN THATS F'N FUNNY
ya James Toney was trying to make the college football and so they both went out to a recruitment camp, when they got to the dorm and had to decide the beds that when it went down
Toney got kicked out, couldn't get a college scholorship for football, turned to boxing pro.
Good for us, bad for Deion.

Indeed. Imagine if he HAD gotten the scholarship, and was playing football instead. Man, we would have missed on one of the best boxers ever.
jack_the_rippuh 06-02-2005, 10:06 PM How injury prone he is, it's better that he went to boxing instead of football.

Deion was afriad to tackle, what makes anyone think he would have the balls to even consider stepping into a ring? My fave Deion memory was when he went left SF and was talking all that **** about how he was going to brun Rice when they met up, then got burnt on every single play. He as much faster than Jerry, but Jerry was much quicker.

...Yeah, being a Cowboy fan I don't remember any time that Rice burnt Deion maybe more than once in the same game. There was never a better cover corner in the history of the NFL than Deion. BTW, Rice was the best receiver ever. As if I needed to say that.

how do you kno he aint good, people need to reserve judgment, just cuz he played ball dont mean he cant fight, its just ignorant to say he will get KTFO and youve never seen him box.
joeboxer 06-03-2005, 12:51 AM he's too old.
If he attempts to work his way to a title he won't get there before he is 40,
and that's George Foreman territory.

Okay well maybe he'll do fine is that alright with you mommy? I can say whatever I want...
Did you know that one of the most overused words that people use when trying to sound intelligent is "ignorant".
masterdirector 06-03-2005, 02:43 AM Umm...I want Shaq to try boxing...
Imagine Shaq vs. Tyson, the ratings for that. I'd love to see Shaq get knocked out by Mike.
Go Heat. Cause I like Miami b/c of Miami Vice.

u can say whatever you want, im just sayin u dont kno if he has skills or not, it like sayin i would KNock u the F out, i dont even kno you.
vB Martin 06-03-2005, 05:09 AM Every time I see this thread I can't help but think about Ed "Too Tall" Jones and his abortive attempt at a boxing career. 6-0 5KOs, but he never fought anyone. He was a MONSTER at the time, though. 6' 9"ish, 260ish.
MetalVomit 06-03-2005, 08:30 AM u can say whatever you want, im just sayin u dont kno if he has skills or not, it like sayin i would KNock u the F out, i dont even kno you.
if you guys are still talking about Kendall Gill, he is 37, will likely be a heavyweight, and will get his jaw smashed if he fights any guy with a decent punch.
