View Full Version : Comment on the Tszyu-Hatton undercard fights (except for the Danny Williams fight)
Bombardier 06-02-2005, 12:44 PM Sorry, Anorak, the Williams speak can go in another thread.
So any of these fights look good? I take it the welterweight bought is between a couple of prospects, with local boy Barnes being the favourite I'm sure. Still, it's not like he's going up against a 40-year old nobody to get an easy win.
Seems like a lot of heavyweight fights. More guys that can be hyped to death until they come over here and get pummelled, I guess.
How about the rest of the fights? Who should we look out for?

Martin (Top Knowledge) 06-02-2005, 02:43 PM To be honest with you Bombardier... I'd have to say that's a pretty f**kin' ****ty undercard!... LOL!...
I think Frank Warren spent so much of the purse on Kostya Tszyu's wages he didn't have any money left to arrange any other fights on the bill? :dunno: ... LOL!...
BrooklynBomber 06-02-2005, 02:47 PM The only thing I am interested in undercard is to see olympic champ Povetkin in his debut. Everything else is trash to me.

:) Yeah...
I wonder who Macranelli's gonna be fighting?
I prefer it that the Harrison vs Brodie fight is a seperate card though!... That way we get two nights of boxing!:D
elveiel 06-02-2005, 03:33 PM MACCARINELLI and ALEXANDER are the two fighters to look out for, thats only because both are big punchers and you could see a good KO.
BARNES has skills, i just dont think he has the mental side of the sport to make it.
Bombardier 06-02-2005, 03:36 PM Thanks for the info guys...I'm surprised nobody took me to task for the heavyweight comment :D .

I've never liked Barnes (maybe a little unfairly) because of the fight he had with Jimmy Vincent.
I know Barnes is the up and comer and Jimmy Vincent is some old Gypo... But that does not make it fair to just give the fight to Barnes when Jimmy Vincent won it clearly.
And I know that Barnes will say that he thought he'd won the fight after even though he didn't, (it would be bad marketing not too!) But in that instance I just didn't like him saying it.

;) I dunno what Danny Williams has left to offer... I think he earned close to £1,000,000 for the Vitali fight, so if I knew him, I'd tell him to retire! (Unless he get's a crack at another title soon!).
I don't think much of Alexander, I think the guy is shot... I saw him lose to a nobody not long ago, and I think he's just riding on the lucky shot that nearly took Takaloo's head off in his last meeting.
I did like watching Wayne, and I've seen him live a few times... But I reckon he's shot nowadays.
fazered 06-03-2005, 11:35 AM Well I have to say that I am looking forward to the Maccarinelli fight, not that I think he is a true prospect but just because his hands must weigh about as much as a four door car. So he is exciting to watch. However he tends to flail around with his hands low so I can't wait for someone to punish him for it.
Alexander was an exciting fighter but is past it and missed his opportunity to shine. Which is a shame. He could have challenged (and probably been beaten) for a world title. He fights are normally fun to watch though.
Barnes can be quite good fun to watch but I don't see th ebirghtest future for him.
So all in all probably fun to watch but nothing you'll be talking about in two weeks.

PapiShasho 06-03-2005, 01:20 PM am i gonna have to sit thru these ****ty undercard fights, or is showtime only showing the main event?
!! Anorak 06-03-2005, 02:57 PM I think Showtime is only showing the main event in the US.
The Williams bout (it'd have to be that'd bring it up, wouldn't it?) is just a tune-up for his July bout with Matt Skelton.
HairyAceHole 06-03-2005, 04:10 PM wtf happened to williams-skelton ?

boxrec (http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=007450)Yeah, it's a pure tune-up. If it was a test he wouldn't be fighting again the next month. It's just to shake off rust as he's been out for six months.

wow yeah about 42 days. ok this is ok .
fazered 06-03-2005, 06:25 PM He's also a late stand-in, about 3 days ago I think. So he can be forgiven on this occasion.

fazered 06-03-2005, 07:37 PM Yeah and it would be PPV!
