View Full Version : What's Your Career?

Hey,

Well, the time for me to pick a career is coming very soon (high school graduation was last night) and, like most people, I have a hard time finding a profession that interests me.

The reason I decided to post here is because we all share the same interest/passion/dedication, and that is boxing. I'd like to know what all of you do for a living, that way I have some sort of idea of what I may like to do.

What I hopefully want in a job:

- I don't want to be stuck in a cubicle for 8 hours a day on the computer.

- I like to be as active as I can, whether it be talking to people or being outdoors.

- I hate (maybe I should use a less harsh word) children. They all for some odd reason don't like me.

- A stable job with decent oppurtunities to move around, should I dislike a certain business/company.

- Lastly, as long as it can support a family, I'm fine with it. The pay doesn't necessarily have to be amazing. As long as I can get through life doing what I enjoy with a little spending money, I'm fine.

Any advice/input is greatly appreciated.

(Note: Becoming a professional boxer and winning the world championship is not an option ;) )

first of all, you must discipline yourself, there are some distractions coming your way like girls, and girls, and girls! don't you know that half of the students who didn't make it fell in love? so better not fall in love, finish your education and get a job, and earn a lot of money. after that, you can have it all you want and you can have sex all you want ha ha ha.

I hear McDonalds is hiring. j/k

Seriously though, while in college I worked for a few years doing pool maintenance. It was great. I made $12 bucks an hour in 1988-89 money, worked out doors in my bathing suit all day. Swam in rich folks pools. knocked off early every day and got stoned to the bejeezus. The only thing is, you have to live down south if you want to make it a full time job.

Do you like to write? You could go to school for journalism or you could go be an english teacher and write as a side project. I am going to through the same thing I am graduating high school in two weeks. I think I want to teach, but also have side project like writing as a hobby. Keep your head up, graduating high school is a good thing. Go to college it will be way better than high school I think.

There's always Uncle Sam. That's probably the best place for someone coming out of High School who has no clue of what they want to do. Just don't join the Army or Marines. The Navy or Airforce is better. I was in the Navy. Been to many different countries and had lots of women while I was there. You'd be amazed at how easy it is to bang Euro women. Plus, the money and the opportunity for advancement are exellent.

...Yeah my college life was a little different. I took the in again out again route, my parents didn't pay for it, and I commuted to nearby ODU. I was also married near the end of my college days too. High School and those few years after were the best for me. Partied constantly, got laid like a hooker, and had leisure time to spare.

I'm a director. A damn good one.

Go to college, find something you actually like. **** money, once you have a ton of it that **** won't matter if you hate what you're doing. Money is easy enough to come by, so do something that's actually work that you enjoy. Don't sign up for the family life until you can afford it. No need to rush into that, once you're in it, you're in it for good unless you're a sorry piece of **** that'll just up and leave a family behind.

worst comes to worst, you could always sell drugs

it's easy for you to say that because you have it. remember that there are lots of people who are starving, what do they need to buy food?

masterdirector
06-03-2005, 05:54 AM
those that are starving can get jobs. or steal. We need thieves, otherwise cops would go out of business. Cause cops only go after bad guys, like all non-whites (that's sarcasm, so take it as such).

Really though, yeah, lots of people are starving but that guy who posted this, the guy I was responding to, he probably isn't. If he is, I'd suggest selling the computer for food money.

Those that are starving, okay, starving people, somehow get food first, even if you have to beg or steal it. Get to a place where you can get a job and save everything you can. Then, once you've built yourself up some savings or something, then do what you want.

When I say **** money I obviously mean like don't do a job just for the money like don't sell your life away for money doing something you hate. If you're doing something you hate for most of your life I mean damn, is that really good living? Better off dead.

Law enforcement/corrections with the county Sheriff's Office. :cop:

Last night I just started to think about that law enforcement. It's something to consider, although I don't look a that intimidating. The military is something that I'm trying to avoid for obvious reasons. I am going to college, so that'll help me more, but I'm curious to know what you all do for a living.

My strongest subject would probably be english, although I hate writing. I like solving word problems, but I'm not good at them. Science is very interesting, but not something I'd like to do for a living. And, of course, I'm knowledgeable in physical education/health/nutrition.

The whole money not being a factor is something I've always told myself. I don't want to be like everyone (parents, relatives) who hates their jobs but only go for the next paycheck. I'm trying hard to find a career that I'll enjoy doing, but it's not coming to me.

Yeah, now's a good time to sign up for the military (this is where I would insert a horrified smilie if I did that sort of thing)

Actually, I wouldn't really advise anyone to go into a law enforcement/corrections career. I didn't think I'd ever do it; it happened by circumstance. As far as the necessity for looking intimidating, it's not necessary. We have nearly 50 percent of our officers are females and under 5'3 and 150lbs. That's chunky, hahaha, but hardly intimidating. Maturity, responsibility and integrity are the most essential qualities imo.

Er, don't judge my levels in said categories by my posts, hahaha.

Now is the perfect time to sign up for the military. With the increase in bonuses, you can make some serious money. **** what cha heard, the military is the best place for someone with no sense of direction. Especially the Navy.

I'm just finishing my 3rd year in college and i'm now just starting to decide what I want to do for a career. I changed my major a couple times and am now majoring in communications and I really enjoy it. I have a part-time job working promotions at a radio station and have an intership a working the scooreboards at the Reds games. The moneys pretty good and its somthing I like like so much i'd probably do it for free.

So my advice to anyone starting college is not to declare a major your first year and just take general studies courses while you enjoy your college life and look for a major you think you would like to do.
