another fight site just posted an article that stated that Javier Castillejo has officially been stripped of the WBC super-welterweight title for choosing to fight Fernando Vargas....according to a recent list of WBC rankings, Oscar DeLaHoya and Ricardo Mayorga are the top 2 contenders to the belt.... is Oscar-Ricardo on now for Spet. 17th???? Was this the most ridiculous title-strip of the past year (remember El Terrible got stripped for fighting Barrera, and Tarver and Johnson got stripped for fighting each other)

This fight will be just like Trinidad Mayorga, De La Hoya will KO him around the 9th Round. Hes to good of a boxer for Mayorga. I think Mayorga should take out Vargas 1st.

Yes if it is anything that we have learned it is that , a good boxer will always be a brawler 8 out of 10 times ,

DLH= Boxer
MAYO= Brawler

DLH+MAYO= Win for DLH

hahahahahahaha...DLH ko Mayorga..ur funny...that wont happen..true i dont really give mayorga much of a chance unless he goes after mayorga from the 9-12th round(dlh fades and badly),But i dont see Dlh power at 154 ko'ing a man like Mayorga with as much power and Chin mayorga has,Dlh will probably just box while Mayorga tries to land bombs.

Who'd the WBC want him to fight?

LoL at however said that DLH can knock out Mayo. DLH is just like Vargas right now talking about the 150s but walking around in that "I am a pillbury dough boy" look @ 190. DLH has done nothing as of late compared to what he used to be..STRUM? Hopkins? By the same token Mayo hasn't done jack either but he did show something DLH hasn't show in a long time HEART. HE was getting his arse kicked and kept getting up unlike mr. golden boy and his "acting". ALthough it would be an exciting fight, Mayorga is too much risk for DLH he wont go near him....not to mention that a fight between these two would be a Arum/King marriage and that never happens unless you got TITO and HOya in there..

I'm picking Mayorga. Coz I like him. He can beat a boxer if the boxer isn't too fast on his feet like Vernon Forrest. DLH better get on his bicycle and do his flurry and run tactic like he tried against Hopkins.

Two things can happen :

Oscar by UD
Mayorga by KO

Let me quickly lay down the law. De La Hoya and Mayorga will never fight, the bout makes no sense for De La Hoya as De La Hoya has maybe a handful of bouts left in his career, and Mayorga is no longer a top flight fighter.
And one thing that has continued to bother me is the bias I see alot here. At 147, Mayorga was a threat and a serious fighter. At 154+, he is a catcher with little pop to his shot. Just because he can take a great shot and has balls of steel, doesn't make him a great fighter. Damn, was the Trinidad fight that long ago?

I think the next in line would be Michele Piccirillo ....isn't that the guy Spinks beat? Anybody know what style he fights with and how he would match up with Mayo?

I think the fact that he may have the best chin @ 154, and still should have some power in his punches combined with his "cojones" makes him a force to be reckoned with in that division. And your right it will never happen...but not because of what you said but more so because DLH has one more fight with ARUM(sort of he gets first dibs) and Mayo is a King fighter. DLH is not out looking for the best fights..he fought STRUM thinking it would be an easy belt at Middle Weight, not because it was a known name but rather a belt in another weight class. He will fight a no body in sept..his excuse to get a feel for the wieght class. (thats my 2 cents)

You know, tonight at 9 PM on ESPN Classic they are replaying the 1980 bout between Earnie Shavers and Randall Cobb.
At 154 and up, Ricardo Mayorga is Randall Cobb, a major league catcher. He hasn't been impressive since the last Vernon Forrest fight.

What do you mean by catcher....sounds like someone who blocks punches with their head ala Mayo/Tito or DLH with Strums Jab. :boxing: :D

That would mean something to me, if I was a De La Hoya fan. But I am a boxing fan.

That was the single worst piece of athletic garbage I have ever seen in sports. And I have the nerve to say boxing should be on the level of baseball and football in terms of popularity.

He kept turning his back, he threw these weird ass punches with his chin in the air like "Knock ME the **** out!", and then pulled a "No Mas" to top off his moment in the sun.
The thing that gave me an idea that this kid was garbage was that I could see he knew nothing about the sport. He had the balls to say that after watching his father get slaughtered by Larry Holmes, that he saw his father had talent and skill. Give me a break. They need to use that boxing commission I always hear Teddy Atlas talking about to prevent idiots like this from disgracing the sport.

First of all, DLH will be fighting at 150 pounds, not 154 (although, tecnically, he can fight for the title and be under weight). I doubt he'd give Mayo that much of an advantage, tho. Secondly, DLH won't fight Mayo because he is looking for 'BIG' fights, but will end up fighting some bum in Sept. I'm predicting it now.

I think dlh wins but not by ko, mayorga took a lot of shots in his last fight before he went down and we all know the guy he fought last can punch.
