Bob Arum to promote De La Hoya's next fight?
By G. Leon
May 30, 2005 - Last year Oscar De La Hoya signed a two fight deal with Top Rank Inc. to face Felix Sturm on June 5 and Bernard Hopkins on September 18. Part of this agreement stipulated that De La Hoya would own the rights to his fights with Sturm and Hopkins. As a result of De La Hoya receiving these rights, Bob Arum/Top Rank Inc. was granted the right of first refusal and last look on De La Hoya's next fight. This means that Bob Arum has the right to make the first offer for Oscar's next fight and the right to match or exceed any offer made by Golden Boy Promotions or any other promoter for De La Hoya's next bout. A couple of weeks ago, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer confirmed to **********.com that De La Hoya would share HBO's September 17 PPV with junior lightweight king Marco Antonio Barrera. Bob Arum and Richard Schaefer were unavailable for immediate comment, but we will keep you updated, so stay tuned. REMEMBER WHERE YOU HEARD IT FIRST! (11:25 AM ET)
